My friends, this last week I was reading and came across this Word I've read before--
Blessed are the poor in Spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matt. 5:3
The first words recorded in what we call the sermon on the mount.
And it made me realize...do I know what it means to be poor in spirit?
I live in the US, so I have never experienced true poverty. And though I have dear friends who are missionaries, I've never even seen true poverty. We in our family may have little by our culture's standards, but we still live waaaayy better than 80% of the people on this planet.
Will you join me, as the Lord leads you, in asking Him for my spiritual poverty? And that I might r-e-a-l-l-y understand what that means? I am beginning with:
totally dependent on God alone
each minute is one of desperate need
empty of myself
I'd appreciate any insights you have in this issue as well.
I have a feeling I may have to come back to ask for meekness, and gentleness, and mercy, and purity of heart, and persecution, (she said with trepidation!), and to hunger and thirst for righteousness.
Thank you so very much. I need the Lord to change my heart. I am quite desperate.
