My friends, this last week I was reading and came across this Word I've read before--

Blessed are the poor in Spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matt. 5:3
The first words recorded in what we call the sermon on the mount.
And it made me realize...do I know what it means to be poor in spirit?

I live in the US, so I have never experienced true poverty. And though I have dear friends who are missionaries, I've never even seen true poverty. We in our family may have little by our culture's standards, but we still live waaaayy better than 80% of the people on this planet.

Will you join me, as the Lord leads you, in asking Him for my spiritual poverty? And that I might r-e-a-l-l-y understand what that means? I am beginning with:
totally dependent on God alone
each minute is one of desperate need
empty of myself

I'd appreciate any insights you have in this issue as well.
I have a feeling I may have to come back to ask for meekness, and gentleness, and mercy, and purity of heart, and persecution, (she said with trepidation!), and to hunger and thirst for righteousness.

Thank you so very much. I need the Lord to change my heart. I am quite desperate.

I can say poverty is the state of being in desperate need of something, say people living in poverty are in need of food, money, etc. So being poor in the Spirit means being in desperate need of God's spiritual gifts, why this is important is because only when you recognize that what you already have is not enough and that you need more, then God will continue adding more to you. If you say you are rich in the spirit then you don't need anymore. God wants us to know that we are poor in the Spirit no matter how much we have or know, that way we can continue growing. God bless

Thanks, shemiah. :)

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdon of heaven.
Just been pondering this...

This is what it means in GREEK " POOR IN SPIRIT"
reduced to beggary, begging, asking alms
2) destitute of wealth, influence, position, honour
a) lowly, afflicted, destitute of the Christian virtues and eternal riches
b) helpless, powerless to accomplish an end
c) poor, needy
3) lacking in anything
a) as respects their spirit
1) destitute of wealth of learning and intellectual culture which the schools afford (men of this class most readily give themselves up to Christ's teaching and proved them selves fitted to lay hold of the heavenly treasure)

You need to look what comes before that " BLESSED" Happier" joy- for theirs the Kingdom of Heaven. I pray child of God that you are able to receive revelation knowledge, wisdom and understanding. AMEN

Prayers go out to you...
In the love of Christ, Shekaniah

I always pray for God's wisdom...
Just can't get enough of the stuff!

James 1:5
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

Psalm 111:10
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.

Proverbs 4:5 - 7
Get wisdom, get understanding;
do not forget my words or turn away from them.
6 Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you;
love her, and she will watch over you.
7 The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom.
Though it cost all you have, get understanding.

Proverbs 16:16
How much better to get wisdom than gold,
to get insight rather than silver!

How sweet....though I think you have been blessed with quite a bit of 'spiritual insight' already, I think God is thrilled when we ask for more of Him :)

May He fill you up to overflowing :)

Praying for all you ask in Jesus.
Be ready to be dazzled, I ll pm you when I get the time. :)

God bless

Lucy! Thank you...may He do so for us all. :)

sound7--thanks for the translation, and especially for the prayer.

and my sister shekaniah, ask God!! (what a concept! lol) timely and good advice, as usual. ♥

I spoke to my husband about this last night, and as always he had words of wisdom. I'd share them if I could do them justice without him being here so I can get them down verbatim.
But he helped me understand what I was searching for the most, which is, how does our poverty of spirit relate to one another, i.e. kingdom of heaven (of which we are all a part).
You know how the more people seem to have, the less they like to give away? But the truly impoverished will share the very little they have (only at this moment, as it were) with anyone in need?

So, I offer you, my brothers and sisters in Jesus, my impoverished spirit, that we might all share in His kingdom.
How awe-some is our Lord??? ♥
