For me, when I was not able to read the word (gothic, Hebrew script) I would assume it was like a number of bikers I've known with tattoos that incorporated a cross, but not with anything to do with Jesus or God.

I'd figure it was some wreckless art appropriating a Christian symbol.

Much love!
Are you referring to the Iron cross<?

Different kinds. I remember one was more the type of cross we use, with roses intertwined, and a skull background (something like that, it's been a while).

Just look at how many Hollywood types wear crosses, it's quite the fashion accessory.

Much love!
It seems like the new thing we former Catholics used to wear around our necks. Instead of jewelry it's a permanent engraving in the skin now.

I asked about the iron cross because I used to see outlaw bikers with them for some reason.

I also noticed that psuedochristian trends are getting popular with certain groups.

For Example

I've seen those also.

For me, if you want to have a tattoo to express something spiritual, give a clear message.

Much love!

Just curious...for the men that disagree with tattooing based on this one scripture, do you also follow Leviticus 19:27?
"You shall not shave around the sides of your head, nor shall you disfigure the edges of your beard."

If you dont have a beard, why not? This verse sounds like you should. 🤔

Also, Leviticus 19:28 says not to cut or mark for the dead. Does that mean if it's not gotten for the dead its okay?
Yup!
It's there for our admonition.
I don't throw out the OT. I love the OT.

If I had a daughter, I sure would never cause or allow her to be a whore. I don't follow demon possessed people, nor do I try to identify as one with their weird heathen hair styles.

27Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard. 28Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD. 29Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness. 30Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD. 31Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.

Contrary to those who make the law a code for salvation (ie SADs, Armstrong Church of god and Hebrew Roots religions), keeping Sabbaths is superceded by NT mandate. The OT applies morally, but not sacrificially, ceremonially or in that which Christ fulfilled.

The heathens stick a bone through their noses and modify their appearances with weird hair styles to distinguish themselves for their fake gods.
That's a general principle here for believers who are inclined to be like them.

This is an example.

Among other "bad news," a tat is a blood-letting ritual that gives devils (aka demons) an open door. I am involved in a ministry of deliverance and tats are classic access points (pun intended) for unclean spirits.
it can be a bloodletting ritual. I can assure you that the vast majority of the billions of tattoos in America were not part of a ritual. I do not disagree with your premise. But unless someone involved in the tattoo is seeking some ritualized reason for getting the tat its not a part of that equation. At best tattoos from a biblical standpoint were forbidden because like earrings, they represented slavery or ownership by someone. Kind of like branding cattle.

I have 6 tats, they have meaning to me and are special reminders of things i've experienced, good and bad. They are deliberately not in view when i'm dressed in normal clothing. They arent for making a statement. They are for remembering point in time that are deeply significant to me.

Having a gun doesn't make you a murderer anymore that getting a tattoo is a blood letting ritual. (unless of course you are actually performing one). Intent and context play a part. If I am doing this to show my love of Jesus, its it isn't a blood letting ritual.

If you are wise in the Lord, you will not get any tat. If you don't like being told what the word of God says on the issue (there is much more), then you will ignore or rationalize everything that does not pander to your fleshly desire. You have been warned.
This is a false dichotomy and assumes you are the vanguard of truth on the subject. I am wise in the lord could always learn more though, and I'm going to get another tat. I know what the bible says. That i do not agree with your take, is not rationalizing. Having a reason to get a tattoo is not rationalizing it is answer to the question "Why get a tattoo?". It's not a fleshly desire it's a spiritual desire in this case. You must be mistaking me for a drug addict who doesn't know why he is doing what he is doing.

More to my point though, this thread isn't about whether its is a sin or bad to get a tattoo, i specifically noted that in the original posting, but you being wise decided to ignore that part. The reason is because I already know there are people who oppose tattoos in fact i know my side and your side of the argument. this wasn't a debate on sin, it was what would you think if you saw such a tattoo. Its ok if you think its sinful bloodletting... I get it. That's all you would have had to say.

Now just because you poked me like that. My turn.
Tattoos had social implications on Israel. While some pagan cultures used them as a right of passage, God doesn't want his people to look like they are practicing pagan things. Nor does he want his people branded for ownership. Now, our society today hardly see tattoos as some ritual and depending on what the tattoo is of may or may not be in good taste. What you have done is import pagan practices into the biblical narrative of the bible to support biased view of tattoos in our modern day.

The context of tattoos being forbidden by God is part of the holiness code given to Israel, which includes a series of laws designed to set the Israelites apart from the pagan cultures surrounding them. The practices described—cutting the body and marking it—were associated with mourning rituals and idol worship, common among Canaanite and other ancient cultures (1 Kings 18:28). These actions were often tied to rituals honoring the dead or invoking pagan gods, and the Israelites were commanded to avoid these practices to remain spiritually pure and distinct as God's people.

I am not of Israel; the mosaic law has never applied to anyone but Israel. The New Testament does not mention anything about tattoos it is silent. So I as a gentile have never been told by the bible it is wrong.

Oh. That's what this thread was supposed to be about.

Personally I wouldn't think anything about it. It would just be another random picture that means something special to the wearer, but nothing to anybody else. And there are so many of those tattoos these days, nobody has time to ask everybody about all of them.

Besides cryptic tattoos are often a trap. They are usually intentionally cryptic, and the wearer wants very much for you to ask about them, so he can spill his life's dreams, ambitions and philosophy on you. Often it's best to just move on without comment. So I would probably not even dare mention the odd picture you had drawn on you.

S stands for Suzuki, or it could stand for Saint.

If you are Japanese, you'd know what Suzuki means. Apparently it's a common last name.

The New Zealand Herald used to have a big maststand all in gothic letters.
But when the broadsheet newspaper downsized to tabloid, they didn't have enough room for the full name, so just put a big H on it instead.

I want to put a big s on my car, and I want it to be a super fast car. So people will see it going down the road and say, "look at that S car go!"
People will think you're Superman! Or maybe Spiderman.

Oh but wait, Superman doesn't need a car. Or Spiderman.

But..Batman does.

You are right about drawing attention. To that i restate... who would see a tattoo on the back of a 50+ yr old male who isn't in great shape.

Obviously it would not be for the general populous.

This is very true. As i alluded to the medical examiner would see them all. I can weave a storyline through all my tattoos through different ages and experiences. In my case the majority tied to female relations of the past but have other meaning as well

Where is the superseded mandate to keep the Sabbath in the New testament.

The only thing I can think of is the statement to not to forsake coming together....

When I see a woman or man with a ring in their nose, it brings back memories of my youth. We put rings in the noses of hogs that kept rooting out of the pen.

I've raised hogs too my fellow farmer. I know what you mean.

Why not just get circumcised. Cutting that is God approved.
Nobody will see it except for you...and God.
