Hi I'm new to Christianity so I don't know all the doos and don't s is it OK to marry a non christian?

Paul says do not.......is do not a command?
Believers disobey and suffer the consequences of their actions. It's a most miserable union.

That scripture is spoken by Paul to those already married.
Some believers have spouses who don't come to the Lord at the same time they do. So Paul is instructing them on how to deal with that.
But for those who are believers seeking a wife, he tells them not to yoke themselves with an unbeliever.

interesting
lets say someone is in unbelief
and has children outside of marriage
and then becomes a believer
is it wrong to marry that woman if it was only the man who converted?

I hope you have a home church . The bible teaches we are not to be unevenly yoked with anon Believer 2cor 6:14

That man and that woman had already become one flesh. Sinfully, but one flesh. That's a different prospect than considering an unbeliever when you are not united in any way.
It is difficult to be strong in your faith when your spouse does not believe the same way you do...it is not a smart way to start a new relationship or marriage because you already have different points of view on morals...spending time in your walk with the Lord, and even tithing your money. As in all things pray for God's will to be the direction in your choices and witness to bring this person to the Lord so you are equally yoked.
Congratulations in your new life and don't rush things...let Him grow you in your faith and understanding so you may have a lifelong walk with Christ.

If you already have a girlfriend just pray and let God guide you! Sometimes God will lead you to an unsaved person that He knows will come to know Him. Other times it is probably easier to look for a Christian.
The unequally yoked thing can relate to more then one level. For example, equally yoked people are pulling in the same direction with the same amount of force. Most ladiesnor men of the opposite sex, despite being Christians have different visions or goals in life and will not necessarily make the ideal husband or wife. (Hence why one needs to go courting for a while before marriage, and dont worry... You may go out with many before you find the one for you!)

God desires that you have purity. Would you put yourself in a relationship where she's actively seeking impurities?
God desires your holiness. Would you put yourself in a relationship with someone who is fleeing from holiness?
God desires that Christ is the head of man and man is the head of his wife. Would you put yourself in a relationship with someone who will rebel against this chain of authority?
Jesus said "if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away, and if your hand causes you to sin cut it off and throw it away." Would you put yourself in a relationship (exchange lifestyles) with someone who lives a lifestyle of sin?
And finally, why do you want to be in a relationship? What do you achieve by being in one?

What I observe in Christians marrying an Atheist, is that most often the Atheist wins and converts them. If God wins, then usually it is because the Christian inspires the Atheist to become Christian and 'then' they get married together as Christians. But if they get married before that, it's over.

I think it's ok, but at the end of the day would you want to be with someone who doesn't share the same values as you?

That's a very good question.
And I don't know the answer. Would two wrongs make it right? I don't know. It would be right for the father to provide for his child.There is an OT scripture that says the man who lies with a woman shall marry her. Would that apply today? I don't know because Israel was a chosen people of God separate from those who worship other gods. They were not to marry outside of Israel. So if a Jewish man lay with a foreign woman, he's done wrong, but then if he married her he does another wrong.
Just thinking out loud here ..... off hand, I think the warning would be similar to the OT warning of the Israelites not marrying outside of Israel because foreign women have a tendency to draw the man away from God into idolatry. I think that's what Paul was saying about being unequally yoked. The believer and unbeliever have nothing in common and the unbeliever might draw the Christian away from God.
But providing monetary help for the child would be the right thing to do because that is their child and as you said, we are to care for our family.
Ezra the priest assembled along with the men, women and children of Israel. It was a moment where they came together as a people to repent of their sins. They wept bitterly because they were being convicted of sinning against the Lord by marrying foreign women.
Here's what the people said:
We have been unfaithful to our God and have married foreign women from the peoples of the land; yet now there is hope for Israel in spite of this. So now let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives and their children, according to the counsel of my lord and of those who tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law. So this is a great question and one I'm going to do more study on.
