Amen Roger! I've seen plenty of people abuse and misuse the words of Jesus "go and sin no more" in John 8:11 to teach "sinless perfection." Jesus was telling her to go and leave her life of sin. She had been practicing adultery. Jesus cannot compromise his perfect holy standard, so of course He is not going to say, "go and just sin a little bit."

How can Paul avoid giving them false assurance here that they will be eternally saved when in fact some of them may not? Paul knows that faith which is firmly rooted and established from the start will continue. Those who continue (demonstrative evidence) show thereby that they are genuine believers. Jesus did not call the woman an adulteress or a sinner. In fact, he said, "I don't condemn you."

No, when Jesus said, "Go, and sin no more," he was commanding she wouldn't sin anymore! Like he commanded the wind and the sea to obey him, ("Peace, be still!") Jesus was now Lord of this woman's life. She was set free! She was renewed spiritually! She was a new creation! She was no longer under the label "adulteress." She was a child of God.

And no man could condemn her because they all sulked away from Jesus in fear that they would be exposed. Their own hearts condemned them. They believed they were sinners. She didn't believe that lie anymore.

As long as people feel they are obeying God like servants, rather than saints following him as friends, they are like the prodigal son, "If my father would take me on as a servant, at least I will have someplace to live and won't perish." When you finally realize that Jesus is Lord of your life, you won't worry about falling away from him. The kingdom of heaven is within you, and if you are a vessel of the Holy Spirit, the god of this world can't abide in you. You are a saint.

Honestly, I'm absolutely astonished that so many Christians are still walking like babes, believing God isn't faithful or awesome enough to keep them and make them more into the image of his son. I'm so sad right now thinking how grieved Jesus was when people just couldn't get it into their hearts that he was genuinely Lord of all. That he was able to keep them from falling away from him.

The oil in the lamps is the Holy Spirit. The ones who didn’t have oil were dependent upon what they already possessed of themselves. God says, “I don’t know you,” to our flesh.

It's interesting how the 5 foolish virgins said, ‘Lord, Lord,’ ‘open the door for us!’ “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’ (Matthew 25:11-12). Where have I heard this before? Matthew 7:22 - 'Lord, Lord,' have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

And yet you want to continue to tell the world that they should listen to you and make themselves presentable to God over and over again and have faith in their own works.

Just like these many people in Matthew 7:22-23.

Jesus keeps you whether you believe him or not. He is faithful and can't deny himself. He was, is and always will be Lord of All. But if you choose not to believe him, you're walking spiritually blind, your eyes focused only on the outward man. If you walk by faith in Christ alone, you will see that you are in reality set free.

Personally I don't think the woman that was caught in adultery was a new creation as Jesus had not died yet nor was resurrected in order for her to become a new creation in Christ. I do believe that "hearing" Jesus' words that He didn't condemn her did give her the strength to "go and sin no more" in the situation that He was talking to her about.

These people were still under the Law until Christ died. We too have died to the Law and have now been joined to another - Jesus our Lord. Romans 7:1-6
