Born of a virgin
The Word became flesh
God in a person
Two natures did mesh
Baptized first in water
And then in the Spirit
A Lamb destined for slaughter
Each day brought you near it
You preached and you healed
And delivered from devils
God’s mercy revealed
On many different levels
Your love met with hate
And rejection and scorn
Your predestined fate
From the day you were born
After your false trial
You were sent to the heathen
Having faced their denial
You were mocked and then beaten
They nailed you to a cross
For those present to see
What first seemed like a loss
Was instead victory
When you took your last breath
You were placed in a tomb
Having tasted of death
New life came to full bloom
You arose from the grave
And ascended to heaven
The one who came to save
Had removed sinful leaven
You then were made heir
Of that which Adam lost
So that we might soon share
What you received at great cost
You will come again soon
To seize that which is thine
When a blood-colored moon
Blocks out the sun’s shine
May we be ready our King
For your glorious return
When the righteous shall sing
And the wicked shall burn
The Word became flesh
God in a person
Two natures did mesh
Baptized first in water
And then in the Spirit
A Lamb destined for slaughter
Each day brought you near it
