Hey Everyone,

What things bring out the inner nerd in you? Are the times when you start talking about things no one else seems to understand? Do certain debates or questions fire up that part of you that's interested in a jumble of things no one else seems to care about? What makes you pull from that vast well of knowledge (sometimes useful, sometimes useless :)) or skill you've been building up for years?

I have a tendency to go "all out nerdilicious" during certain arguments.

For example, someone in a a thread is saying that there is no such thing as a mixed race because the father determines the race and the mother is simply an "incubator".

My question for the poster, and I have yet to receive a response, is that if races "can't" be mixed, why is it that human DNA has a double helix (double chain) structure, with one half coming from the father and the other half coming from the mother? The poster then replied that it is in spirit, and I replied that if you're saying the father determines biological origin and the mother is merely a container, you are referencing physical biology and not just spirit.

He has yet to answer my question. I'm looking forward to the answer because I'm genuinely curious as to the logic. That and the fact that as an adopted person, abandoned at birth, I have no idea who my father is--so who and what does that make me? Again, he has yet to reply.

Now, I am by no means an expert in genetic, biology, or DNA--to be honest, I was pulling from a report I did in grade school--but situations like this definitely trigger something in me to "nerdtastic"!!!!!!

How about all of you? When do you start talking about something, and what is that something, that makes other people's eyes glaze over? Not in a conceited or arrogant way, but because you are genuinely excited about the topic at hand.

I have a heart for anyone who's been called a nerd in their life and felt ashamed because of it because that was me as a teen. God bless you and know that God put those interests and talents in your heart for a reason!!!

Now, tell us all what sets that inner "nerd-fabulous-ness" on fire. :)

lol I have many topics that set the inner nerd in me lol but shall we ask what are the qualities that makes us nerds lol example just being nerdy or odd opposed too others lol or snorting hahaha why does this get us called nerds lol we are just being us but ehh if this makes me a nerd so be it im a proud proud nerd lol

LOL... er, I mean, *SNORT*!!!

I'm obviously one of the "dumb" nerds... seeing as my brain is always 10 steps ahead of my typing... Sorry for all the errors everyone! :)

This is a great question that was touched upon a bit in another thread as well... What makes a nerd a nerd?

And yes, while I used to be ashamed of the fact, now I wear the label proudly. For all our young people out there who feel like an outsider, *big hugs* and know that you are not alone.

*confused*.... did you just call my mom a container?

Anywhooooo, I share a bit of my "excited" knowledge of cars to people.

What brings out my nerddom? Good-looking nerdy girls around my age. One of them brought out a nerdiness about a year and a half ago that still thumbs its nose at the world.

For me its either: aviation, nutrition, exercise, diagnosing car problems, anything medical, drums, photography and God. :)

I think what makes one a nerd is having intricate knowledge in some area that most people don't give much thought to, or having expertise (above average) knowledge in a subject that is popular.

For me, I guess it would be music. I don't play any instruments, though I've attempted to learn piano and guitar. But I love to sing, though I have no formal training. Despite my lack of expertise, I spend a great deal of time browsing for musical instruments and equipment. I'm especially fascinated by different types of microphones, vocal processors, recording equipment and music production software.
