See! Evil conspiracy.

I get that there are jobs or "professions" that if you are in them- a beard is "unprofessional" like...

Military- For the wearing of airtight masks, beards are a no.
Mechanics or some machinist- having a gandalf-beard is not worth getting your face ripped of by dangerous machinery. I get it.
Food Service- Nobody wants your beard hairs in their sandwich, or soup, or salad, or steak, or lasagna, or General Tso's Chicken, or pizza, or Buffalo chicken strips, or panda-paws ice cream, or cheesecake. The best way to ensure that embarrassment doesn't happen is to shave. And that's a real social injustice, when the poor in America get stuck in food service and have to be beardless slaves.

But as a teacher... come on, really?

I hope the lord gives him this strength forever. I would have canceled the wedding on principle.
We haven't seen those friends since the wedding, which is sad because the groom was a very good friend of my husband. But the wife...she just didn't like us. :(

I agree. Teachers come in all shapes and sizes. In a college setting, especially, I wouldn't think the bosses would care what the teachers looked like.

Funnily enough, one of the reasons he wasn't hired on to continue teaching at college was because he wore "funny" math shirts. There was no dress code and he was never told "don't wear 'x'" but in the end, it was a big reason he got canned. But God used it as a blessing because my husband was able to get a better job in an area we had hoped to move back to (oregon coast).

I'm all for an anti-Karen snowflake conspiracy.

Just when some whining hypersensitive stack of walking Jello with a victim complex says all men should be clean shaven, the anti-KSC people in one collective voice shout, get over yourself! It's called a personal life! Get one!

i should point out: i shave my head because toboggans fit better.
saving money on shampoo is just a bonus, not a root-cause.
it's like velcro; no cold north wind can doff my hat.
sincerely,
Warm-Ears
But the question is - do you have a beard?

I've had my beard for so long...

I actually shaved it off this past spring...
I didn't recognize the guy in the mirror...and what was worse is that my wife didn't either.

I said that I wasn't going to do that ever again...

I generally shave my head and face once a week. Might grow out the beard for the winter now that I'm back in cold country.

Winter is the time to do it, at least for me. I didn't really have a beard until recently, but it seems to grow fast during the winter, and barely at all over the summer.

Well, I never said any of that other stuff wasn't happening too... in my opinion it's part of an attack on gender distinction by getting men to get rid of facial hair because it's a secondary sexual characteristic. Some people think distinction in gender is still part of God's plan.

It's a conviction of mine- I don't mean to offend metrosexual or transitioning men or anything. But I can see why some people would think it's ridiculous.
If we go back in time, the 50s for example, we see facial hair was typically frowned upon, as were feminine men. Yet gender roles were clearly established. Men were men and had jobs to take care of their family, women wore dresses and were the home makers.
And going further back we continue to see the same pattern. In fact, as a whole in society beards are more accepted now than in decades past. Just a few years ago long beards were pushed and encouraged in culture.
A few niche groups and a 100 year old tradition that beards are unprofessional doesn't exactly scream demonic attack.

Signed

So it's of your belief Satan is gathering his dark forces to unleash a demonically powered attack on, facial hair? -.-
Not child sex rings, not terrorist threats, gangs, murdered, hatred, not domestic abuse, persecution of religious beliefs, starvation, sickness, virus, world War or any of that. Satan has a conspiracy fueled with demonic hatred for men's facial hair?
It's more satan's hatred for the word of God. There are Old Testament standards relating to cutting one's beard, and even if it's not in play today under the new, it's still part of God's word and thus under satan's ire. Kind of a petty thing, for sure, but the devil is petty now isn't he?

So, not long ago, I heard this lady argue that men will have to shave their beards so that masks will be more effective against the covid. While I don't believe this will ever happen (it had better not), it got me thinking...

Why do so many people try to coerce men into shaving their beards? and then I thought about the people that have tried to do it to me, and that I have seen try and do to others.

-The Military
-Feminists
-Domineering employers
-Super authoritarian preachers
-Random Fashion Police
-Cranky elderly people

Now, I cut the military some slack, because there are somewhat legitimate reasons to shave your beard for military duty. Some more legit than others.

But outside of that, I feel like there is a demonic, evil, CONSPIRACY to get men to shave their beards off. THIS IS NOT A JOKE. I'm not trolling, and I'm not kidding around. Well, I'm kidding a little bit, but I AM SERIOUS!

I think that as long as we wash our beards and don't leave an excessive amount of crumbs or other gear adrift in there... if my beard is offensive to you then you are the problem, and not my beard.

And the preachers! Just what do they think they are doing???? Siding with commercialism, feminism, and worldly psycopaths??? IT IS BEYOND REASON!
I have not seen ANY biblical reason that men should shave their beards, and in the OT in one instance MEN THAT HAD THEIR BEARDS FORCIBLY CUT OFF WERE EXCUSED FROM DUTY UNTIL THEY GREW BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!! Todays world is UPSIDE DOWN!!!

Is anybody with me on this?
I've had a beard now for over fifty years thus all my married life if I shaved it of now I amnot sure my wife would know me. Keep standing up for beards.

I know a guy who says his wife has never seen him without a beard - and told him if he ever shaved it she would divorce him!

(a joke, I am pretty sure)

I watched Easy Rider last night.
The hate of long hair was a sad reflection of the slavery of the majority.

A good reason to keep the beard, or grow one.

I would have a beard now if it didn't just grow in thin & patchy. I do however sport a decent mustache.
Sunday School class leader was the same way....always with the baby face. A very few hairs on his chin was the extent of his beard. Not much for his upper lip either.

So if we ever got to talking about shaving he felt left out.

I personally use a straight razor because where I do grow a beard I only shave the sides off once a week at best. And a straight razor handles that easier than any disposable razor.

So I strop and use a badger brush and get after it.... besides... real shaving soaps smell better than the junk in a can.

If a man's gotta shave, that's definitely the way to do it.

Straight razors are a matter of convenience for me...they don't get clogged up the way the disposables do.

But I'm not the only one who does it...there's a steep learning curve to them and they aren't something I recommend for everyone...safety protocols for working with sharp instruments must be followed or else you will pay the price with your face, fingers, ears, or some other body part.

Look up "badger and blade" website...there's a whole forum about straight razor shaving. Some use new ones others use japanese steel and others use vintage WWI and WWII era razors...I only heard of one from the civil war era.

So...it's not a macho thing. It's a convenience thing and for others they seem to find single edge shaving to be more comfortable than twin, three or four blade shavers. Not really sure about that as I can use either...but if I do find the need to shave regularly I will probably return to twin blade shavers. But others will refuse...hey, it's their face and not mine...I don't have to live with those guys.

Straight razors seem more economical, too. You don't have to replace them, right? Just sharpen them.
