I’m relatively new to faith, having been on a lifelong circular journey, only to come home again. I went to church for the first time recently and since then have been filled with a heightened sense of anxiety. It’s a palpable feeling and it’s making me snappy and easily irritated. I’m containing it as best I can but my body and mind are in chaos. Is this normal? I have prayed for clarity and calm. I’m reading lots and looking at myself and the things I do and have done which I know I have to change. It’s just this feeling of anxiety which I didn’t expect. It’s very troubling and I’m not sure what’s going on. Any help or advice? Thank you.

^ Gospel of John is often recommended as a great place to start reading the Bible.
This movie is a word-for-Word portrayal of John's gospel.

Also, please check out the Alpha Course.

There are 10 videos total. I hope you watch them. They could benefit you greatly .:)

Do you think your new-found faith is what's causing the anxiety? Anxiety can be caused by so many things it's hard to give someone advice without knowing them pretty well and hearing the whole story. If you feel like sharing what's going on it might help you. I'll be happy to listen as I'm sure others will be as well.

Hi Lord_Mountain so glad the Lord led you to CC welcome! When you start reading your Bible it will build your faith, and faith wipes out fear. Some keen Scriptures are, 'For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind' 2 Tim 1:7 and 'Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God' Phil 4:6. God is a good Father and is for us, he's left us many promises to have faith in. God bless you and yours as you grow strong in your faith🙏✝✡🙌

Matthew 6:25-34 ERV
[25] “So I tell you, don’t worry about the things you need to live—what you will eat, drink, or wear. Life is more important than food, and the body is more important than what you put on it. [26] Look at the birds. They don’t plant, harvest, or save food in barns, but your heavenly Father feeds them. Don’t you know you are worth much more than they are? [27] You cannot add any time to your life by worrying about it. [28] “And why do you worry about clothes? Look at the wildflowers in the field. See how they grow. They don’t work or make clothes for themselves. [29] But I tell you that even Solomon, the great and rich king, was not dressed as beautifully as one of these flowers. [30] If God makes what grows in the field so beautiful, what do you think he will do for you? It’s just grass—one day it’s alive, and the next day someone throws it into a fire. But God cares enough to make it beautiful. Surely he will do much more for you. Your faith is so small! [31] “Don’t worry and say, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ [32] That’s what those people who don’t know God are always thinking about. Don’t worry, because your Father in heaven knows that you need all these things. [33] What you should want most is God’s kingdom and doing what he wants you to do. Then he will give you all these other things you need. [34] So don’t worry about tomorrow. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Tomorrow will have its own worries.

Philippians 4:5-9 ERV
[5] Let everyone see that you are gentle and kind. The Lord is coming soon. [6] Don’t worry about anything, but pray and ask God for everything you need, always giving thanks for what you have. [7] And because you belong to Christ Jesus, God’s peace will stand guard over all your thoughts and feelings. His peace can do this far better than our human minds. [8] Brothers and sisters, continue to think about what is good and worthy of praise. Think about what is true and honorable and right and pure and beautiful and respected. [9] And do what you learned and received from me—what I told you and what you saw me do. And the God who gives peace will be with you.

I've heard your handle, who is or was in the UK House of Lord's, interviews on Infowars. He's a very well spoken intelligent man.

As to your question...
This< will help.
🍵🙂📖

And then there aas all a number of things that may be the cause. It's usually a combination coming from the body, soul and the spirit.

Circumstances also affect our daily life and long term health. It takes far more than a post on a forum and a few Bible verses to reach your goal of peace, but the link is a start.

After that you need to find a church that will equip you with the tools to heal and to help others.
Nutritional counseling will be necessary. There are physical activities that are helpful. There are also routines to incorporate into your daily life.

However, as it might seem overwhelming, we are all going through challenges to some degree or another. It's the small steps of progress that achieve those goals.
The first step is provided with that simple decision.

I’ve dealt with that jittery, restless feeling too, especially at night when everything's quiet but my mind won’t quit. Prayer and deep breathing help, but on rough days I’ve found that using a live resin cart makes things more manageable. It doesn't fix everything, but it takes the edge off when nothing else seems to work. Just make sure you’re in a calm environment, it makes a big difference.

I’ve continued going to church and while the anxiety and jitters continue, I’m learning to just let it be. I talk to God and He listens.
At work I’ve been overwhelmed with tension, anxiety and resentment towards some colleagues , but I talked this through with Him last night. Today is calm and relaxed as I’ve followed His Way.
I felt His presence and all is well.

I personally found Mark DeJesus on youtube to be very informative about anxiety and religion. I read his book "I will not fear" and found it useful. I to have found a lot of anxiety to in religion but feel that it can be a good thing causing you to stick closer to God. I would suggest to stick through anxiety and the love that comes from knowing Jesus makes it well worth the wait.

"Religion" to my experience, can lead to all manner of doubt, anxiety, etc. whereas genuine relationship with and obedience to the indwelling Christ in His perfect love will wipe out ALL fear.
Many indications Constantine was not Christian, he merely wanted peace in his realm, created the RCC telling people they had to go through them to get to heaven, and this fallacy is still keeping people from relationship.

Since you say that you are new to faith, I pray that this anxiety is being caused by a conviction of not being right with God. Perhaps you heard a sermon which moved you deeply, making you desire forgiveness through Christ. After all, the hearing of His word is used to draw us to him.
Repent and ask for forgiveness. Know that He hears and is quick to forgive.

Please know that all things are possible in Christ, if the axe-head floats! He will give you the comfort that you are seeking.
