A game that I've been playing recently is called "Terraformental" on steam. It's a very fascinating story driven and well-designed looping game. It's currently still in development, but the demo has a lot of content to explore, and I think it is probably worth the $4 to buy the early access game.
Another awesome game, a bit more classic (2009)(as old as me) is Anti-Idle: The Game, by Tukkun. It is significantly less story driven, but is also pretty cool, and is one of the longest and most engaging idle/incremental games in existence.

There are still some good games out there. Mostly indies and double A.
Ignore the big studios though. They never put out good stories anymore.
That's the reason I like to play games. It's like reading a book, but you can walk around in the setting.
I used to enjoy reading a lot. But the kind of video games I play are like a book except so much better.
thx, it's the opposite for me, i used to enjoy playing a lot, now reading and watching. Maybe i've outgrown games, maybe gaming just sucks, maybe both.
Have you heard? New scientific research has come up with ways to say you don't like to do something WITHOUT insulting people who do that thing you don't like.
I know this is a novel, unfamiliar concept to you, but you should try it. You know, just to see what it's like, to try something new.
Of course there is the possibility that you don't even realize you are insulting gamers. You may be so accustomed to talking in that manner that it doesn't even register in your brain anymore...
How have I insulted you? All I did was giving you an honest reply. Besides, I used to be a heavy stoner of gaming, now I'm just desensitized to it, and I don't wanna be defined as a "gamer", gaming is just something I used to do, it's not my identity.
I can recommend some really good books that got made into games. It's called Gamification.

If you go to school nowadays and try to 'game the system' it means you sort of ...cheat. I don't think this is meant to be insulting to gamers. I think it's on the teachers who tried to gamify their lessons. The ones that do 'game' the system may be awarded with high points but in real life it just makes them adept at the art of conning people (or gambling)
So when I see post like 'any gamers here?' I sort of have a different perspective of gamers having worked in schools were children are adversely affected and disrupt classrooms because of the whole video game culture.

One of the libarrians I know met someone through playing Xbox.
She went over to see him (buying an air ticket to the USA) and it turned out he was disabled, so thats why he was playing video games practically 24/7 and webcamming all the time. She didn't know this until she got there though, he didn't tell her or disguised his disability pretty well.
But he was a brilliant gamer!
I don't know what happened, it seemed like she was sort of engaged to him at one point but she moved away (within NZ) and didn't end up marrying the love of her gaming life.
Sorry I don't know what games they played (Is the 'game of love' a thing?) I just know it was thru Xbox, so this was many years ago and I didn't know that you could meet people through it. I kind of have an inkling of what RPGs are but I was never really into the whole D&D crowd table top thing. One Christian girl in my Bible/prayer group was heavily into that with her (athiest/agnostic) husband. She had two children, but had to hide all their games when they started toddling, in case they choked on the little pieces.

I can kinda speed-run Dark Souls (1), it weirdly became a comfort game for me.
The thing is that the game is extremely unintuitive in where to go, what to do and what are your options- because you have a lot more than you probably realize, like I didn't know that even if you don't make a magic build, you can still use magic in the form of Pyromancy just as effective, but you'd be limited to that category of spells, however Pyromancy is as good as you upgrade the catalyst and it's not based on stats I think.
I like to Start the game with a Knight, up my Faith and run straight towards the Astora straight sword by passing through New Londo, that gives you a massive edge in the beginning.
Also, I have found it that you absolutely don't want the Warrior class in the beginning because it seems he doesn't specialize in anything, especially in defense where you don't want to get stun locked nor take huge damage.

You sound like me in Fallout 4. I can play on survival difficulty because I've figured out the safe(ish) route to get to the best gun in the game, where to get good armor, assorted other perks that make it easier, etc.

I'm trying to connect through a common interest i.e games.
I apologise if I seem like I don't enjoy ALL of them.
I guess it's like people who like books, some get very antsy about the KINDs of books people read, while I would enjoy chatting with anyone who reads books! Librarians don't read every single book in the library you know.
Next time I go into JB Hi-FI I will check out the games section and see if there are any kind I can play/can afford. I don't think the public library has video games last time I checked (don't have enough money for everything) but I know when there were video stores they used to have them to borrow.
People just say go online but I don't know if it's that easy just to download a whole game and then try and figure out how to play it for a novice who hasn't got all the equipment. Kids were all going on about Minecraft, but I only ever had the books in the library (and they were the most read ones) maybe they had the 'cheats' IDK. It don't appeal to me like lego as the blocks are just all square and makes my eyes go funny.
oh $66 and it needs a Windows 10 and I'm on Mac! I can't play it unless steal Dad's computer and I don't know if its got Windows 10 as I don't use it and not pay attention to stuff like that. He's always on it downloading old music.

The old style arcade games used to be maybe $1 or $2 a game. They had them in the takeway shops or outside the dairy. I def remember a whole row of them in my Uncles takeaway but was too young to play them I mean I couldn't even reach the controls and didn't have any money lol.

Gamer too been playing minecraft lately and i also love the game tenants but i get tired after a while with some of the profanity it is mild but still :/
