Anyone not going to church because of Corono virus?

I didn't go to church today so I feel a bit bad. I'm in the "increased risk" category so my parents discouraged me from going. My friends who attend other churches had online services, but mine didn't. My city has had a spike and declared a local emergency. I feel like I should be at church to support others, but don't think it is a good idea. Church is a large gathering and is not an exception.

If you are at increased risk then you are more likely to pick it up and then bring it into the church. By not going you were thinking about more than yourself. Be at peace. Love for God is not measured in attendance reports. There are those who attend and sit there with a sour face. They do their duty but is their heart open and worshipful before God? Attitude of the heart is what matters to God. He knows the situation and it is only his opinion that matters. What you did today was wise and it was also important to the health of your church community. Hugs. Stay well.

Hi danja, how are you doing? How are things going for you there? Church is never cancelled. The virus is not serious, don't be worried. I believe civil authorities are trying to help people be more prepared for every emergency. Many flu's are more serious. Jesus said, "where two or three are gathered together," He is present. This is church. I'm sorry for not staying in touch, but I have had some housing issues.
 
In our local area it was a church conference that was considered ground zero. 1 lady has died from the church who tested positive. Not sure how many others tested positive.
 
We held services last Sunday, but we had less than 10% of the congregation show up, so we decided to go with our Facebook broadcast only for the foreseeable future. Quite frankly, a room full of people in close quarters doing things like singing together is about as far away from social distancing as you can get.

And now that the President has restricted public gatherings to 10 people or fewer, even our small group Bible studies (that gather on various days during the week at church or in congregant's homes) are going to have to forgo meeting for now as well.

Quite frankly, the charts show that we are presently on-track to be like Italy, not South Korea, in our battle against COVID-19, so I believe that we need to do whatever we can to change that .. while there is still time to do so.

There is much to be in prayer about/trust God for right now, not the least of which is finding creative ways to minister to a world full of frightened people in panic mode, when we have been told to isolate ourselves from one another :unsure:

To stay away would be kind of contradictory to the whole package of faith thing wouldn't it?

I think that's why people continue to go to service. Some people see it as a lack of faith. I see what you mean, but why throw ourselves into boiling water when we know the end result?

That end result is eternal life with Jesus if you're a Christian, right? What's to fear except leaving this world for a better one.
What's faith if you don't hold it all the way in a time like this?
Some forty thousand people have died from the usual flu already. This panic that's going on over this Corona numbered one is in my opinion a social experiment. To what end only those behind it know. But I'll tell you from experience that fear doesn't save you from anything. It destroys you because you give what is unknown your imaginations attention and then believe that could happen. You become your worst enemy because what you fear doesn't exist yet.
There's a virus out there. Yes. There are virus' out there everyday, everywhere, all the time.
This one just made a lot of news and a lot of retailers a lot of money due to panic buying.

If you trust God with your soul, how do you not trust him to keep you safe in your church?

I think this is a bit like testing God, so in this sense I do feel uncomfortable going to church into a hot zone of germs and viruses testing God. How is this different from the boiling water example I gave above? And if I get sick, does that mean God doesn't exist? This virus has actually spread though the churches, in S. Korea, first started through the churches in Singapore and DC, that I know of.

You can see it anyway you like. I'm just telling you how I see it.
And that is, it isn't testing God. It's living your life in the faith you gave your life to. You're not suppose to walk this world in fear are you? Because God has your back? And especially when you're going to go to church to praise God, why would you let a virus keep you away?
What is that old saying? I can do all things through Christ? What's that? Except go to church on Sunday because I'm afraid of the flu?

If you're at risk already for some reason, I can understand your trepidation. God is everywhere. You have your faith, your bible. You don't have to go to a church to spend time with God. But don't let the fear of the flu keep you from where you want to go if you do want to go to church.
That's putting more trust in what the flu can do to you than what God can save you from. That's how I see it. It is your life. Do what you will.

Would you still go to church which comprises of a large gathering if Ebola, cholera, or leprosy were rampant where you live? If not, then we are just debating over the severity of the illness, not faith. If you still trust God to keep you alive and safe, that is great faith. With me, if I decided to go to church, I would be prepared to meet my Maker in a few weeks.
