Reginald Dyer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Colonel Reginald Edward Harry Dyer
CB (9 October 1864 – 23 July 1927) was a British Indian Army officer, who as a temporary Brigadier-General, was responsible for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar (in the British India province of Punjab). Dyer was removed from duty, but he became a celebrated hero in Britain,

Jallianwala Bagh massacre - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Jallianwala Bagh massacre (also known as the Amritsar massacre), took place in the Jallianwala Bagh public garden in the northern Indian city of Amritsar on 13 April 1919. The shooting that took place was ordered by Brigadier-General Reginald E.H. Dyer.

On Sunday, 13 April 1919, Dyer was convinced of a major insurrection and thus he banned all meetings. On hearing that a meeting of 15,000 to 20,000 people including women, children and the elderly had assembled at Jallianwala Bagh, Dyer went with fifty Gurkha riflemen to a raised bank and ordered them to shoot at the crowd. Dyer continued the firing for about ten minutes, until the ammunition supply was almost exhausted; Dyer stated that 1,650 rounds had been fired, a number which seems to have been derived by counting empty cartridge cases picked up by the troops.[1] Official British Indian sources gave a figure of 379 identified dead,[1] with approximately 1,100 wounded. The casualty number estimated by the Indian National Congress was more than 1,500, with approximately 1,000 dead.[2]

errr what do you mean "their understanding". Or were you just being generous?
I was talking about the rule of sola-scriptura, which means the Bible is their ONLY rule of faith and everything they believe MUST come from the Bible. Anyone who goes by this rule must acknowledge that everything they believe must be contained in The Book. If what they believe is not written in the Bible, then it is contradictory by the rule of sola-scriptura. Does that make sense or did I stuff it up? lol

Noooo I got that part, I knew what you said, but you said something about "their understanding". I've not seen an example of that yet, so thus I asked if you were just being generous. :)

Here's a fun problem for Sola Scriptura...

[TD]O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, avoiding worldly and empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called “knowledge”—

Apparently Paul didn't believe in Sola Scriptura either. He challenged Timothy to remember things he talked about, among witnesses (to keep the message true????) and to entrust those to faithful men, who will pass it on to others.

AWW HELL! PAUL STARTED THE TRADITION OF TRADITIONS!!! WHAT WILL ALL US PROTESTANTS DO!!!!!!!!!

For clarification, the canon of 66 books wasn't finalized in Christianity until A.D. 393 at the Synod of Hippo. There is no scriptural basis for the selection of books.

Sola scriptura is an oxymoron insofar as it depends on events that happened after the New Testament.

Development of the New Testament canon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In his Easter letter of 367, Athanasius, Bishop of Alexandria, gave a list of the books that would become the twenty-seven-book NT canon,[11] and he used the word "canonized" (kanonizomena) in regards to them.[12] The first council that accepted the present canon of the New Testament may have been the Synod of Hippo Regius in North Africa (AD 393); the acts of this council, however, are lost. A brief summary of the acts was read at and accepted by the Councils of Carthage in 397 and 419.[13] These councils were under the authority of St. Augustine, who regarded the canon as already closed.[14][15]

Serious schisms (with churches that are still around today) didn't start until Council of Ephesus in A.D. 431. There was no separate Roman church in A.D. 393--all of the various Orthodox and Catholic churches were still the same church. So the canon selection isn't a "Vatican conspiracy", it's early Christianity.

We've gone a bit off topic here, but it's an interesting discussion anyway. All doctrinal stuff aside, my sister, who is non denominational, put it perfectly a while ago in a discussion I had with her about sola scriptura. She said very simply, "God is not contained in a Book!"

Sorry, not "contained," but "confined." She said God is not confined in a book.

harry the Nazi ,, are you a commie ,, ? i thought you where catholic

Communism is currently illegal in the United States.

"My fellow Americans, I'm pleased to tell you today that I've signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes." --President Ronald Reagan, National Public Radio speech, August 11, 1984

I'm not a Catholic--I just think continental Europe has an especially interesting history.

do you still believe that you have beat your flesh And no other man has?

Where did you get this idea as in no one else has. For me it was through beating me, my flesh, and trying to do what was right that I found out that there was no way "I" could accomplish freedom in perfection of doing what was right
I thus understood what Paul was saying in the difference of Flesh trying to do and can't, and what God can do if I would submit to dying to myself with Christ at the cross as Paul did. and is well shown in phil. 3
And I know everyone that believes, will come to the same conclusion, and give up the self and start the exchanged life. Their life for God's life to live through them as God did through Son Christ.

First. Know the God you must believe...

Is your God the same god of the muslims?
If you can answer that you can start eliminating which God to believed.

There is only one true God made known to us through the Son, Christ Jesus
John 14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Why are you drawing straws on everyone else, study thyself to be approved and accepted by god the Father of Christ. Who are you to judge another man's servant, if you are, we are to seek to help each other grow and point out to each other truth in Love, God's type, not our own types. 1 Cor. 13
Romans 14:4 Who are you to judge another’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand.

Do you trust God to get me to stand, you and all others by Faith in god to stand? or are you on a self-righteous trip, as Saul was. Phil 3? Just asking, because it is not clear to me where you are coming from. Thanks in advance for a true answer

There are Christians and wannabes in Every denomination. There is NO denomination that is perfect, and there are those who make a show of their "religousity" for others to see in every one of them.

And no man can hold two faces one to the crowd and the other to self without eventually becoming perplexed as to which one is true and then it is time to decide what is truth and either truthfully put Faith in God or continue to be an act.

God still talks to us each personally today by the Holy Ghost, so that we know to either believe or not, conscious choice. and therefore there will be no excuse for man. No blame can be passed.
We are left with to believe or not. Simple really, but it is a great fight to get there, for flesh in and of itself is very arrogant and plainly desires control, over the freedom of all.

I will answer you, but first let me know who's God you are referring, do you refer to the god of the muslim meaning are they the same?
