Are the Majority of Adults Choosing to Believe False Doctrines

Can the physically blind "choose" not to remain blind, and then see? No.
Can the spiritually blind "choose" not to remain blind, and then see? No.
So by extension those who are spiritually blind are not choosing to remain spiritually blind; they simply remain blind.
2 Corinthians 4:4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

[37] Though he had done so many signs before them, they still did not believe in him, [38] so that the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:
“Lord, who has believed what he heard from us, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”
[39] Therefore they could not believe. For again Isaiah said,
[40] “He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn, and I would heal them.”
The natural man WILL sin, he is conceived in it. Sin causes death, physical and spiritual. But God, by grace opens the ears and eyes of some that they may hear and see, turn and be healed. The others he leaves to their lusts.

I believe they are aware of what they believe as truth or else not many would live for a lie.
If one has been exposed to sound arguments that prove their view as false but yet they still hold to it to be true then they are only aware that there is debate not necessarily that they are wrong.
The only way one could be aware is if they choose to stick with their beliefs knowing they are a lie.

I would think that if someone became aware that they had a false belief, they would no longer actually believe it, because they then understand it to be false. Whether or not they acknowledge to others it's false, or otherwise acknowledge its falseness in their religious practice is a different story.
Do I think that some people continue in "religion" that they know to be false? I have no doubt. Is that "most people"... I kinda hesitate to say yes. I want to say no, but there's no way to be sure.

The first two people ever believed a false doctrine after God told them the truth
“And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.”

They had a true word from God and then a lie from Satan that said the opposite all man has the same choice we can believe or we can reject what God said and therefore be blind to the truth

The natural man is of his father the devil. He only hears lies, he cannot hear the truth. He speaks only that which he is able to hear and understand.
Lies are the natural man’s truth and truth is foolishness to him.

It all depends on the severity of the false doctrine. For instance those who deny the godhead of Jesus Christ as part of the Trinity do not follow the Jesus of the Bible. Salvation could not be obtainable in less it was God Himself incarnated who being all holy and righteous gave up His life to atone for our sin.
