In OpenBSD, I can create and edit any word document, have a top-of-the-line password manger called KeePassXC, have Ungoogled Chromium and install Chromium apps, Emulate console games from the time games were truly games, play the superior successor to Minecraft called Luanti (Minetest), Edit images in GIMP (Green Is My Pepper), and do all sorts of other computer-powerful things for completely free and without ads, on the most malware and attack resistent operating system ever made.

Microsoft is a lost cause.

Ok so I installed pop Linux on the basis that I want cool eye candy. I notice that in visual studio I can code for Linux, I guess my question is can I code using the Linux Os with tools like visual c#, VB... Or is there other Linux based devices tools for these types of laguages?

I was going to try and install Linux From Scratch but it eventually led me to develop a shell orchestration tool and visual workflow IDE in an inspiration that came to me after learning the intricates of init.

I published it with a MIT license so it's technically FOSS.

Sorry for the late answer, but if you're not comfortable with Vim of Emacs editors and prefer a visual tool, I would recommend going with VScodium, which is a clone of Visual Studio.

I would like to answer more threads, but sometimes I read pages of theological arguments and among these are a lot of valid points, so I avoid replying if I have nothing to add.

People here seem grounded in reality as far as I can tell.
It's a good thing.

I have since discovered that there are tools such as free basic which Native compile to the OS as well as the variations of C and C sharp

I haven't looked at, but new linux systems can have AI installed. And have you worked with AI yet? AI is one powerful encylopedia.
 
Some advice appreciated, recently (couple of weeks ago) swapped the Ryzen 7 5700x in my AM4, for a very noticeably more powerful R7 5800x but have some concerns about the high temps it reaches. What i've read literally says don't worry, it's perfectly normal for this cpu, to get hot enough to roast potatoes but i think extended, extreme heat production, must shorten it's lifespan?

Wasn't cheap at just under ₤200 either but prices are even crazier now. The corsair dominator 32gb kits i bought for my AM5 rigs which cost ₤80 each March '25, are now an eyewatering ₤380, seriously. So the 32gb Crucial Pro ddr4 kit i've bought for the AM4, seems a steal at a "mere" ₤240 in comparison. Also noticed it seems the bottom of the barrel is being scraped, a lot of components on offer are definitely seconds or returns, which i return quick when sent them. Wanted to replace the aorus elite ax v2 mb in it too, as this one needs nursing now, it's 3 years old and has bios issues once or twice a week which prevent full booting. However, the replacement i ordered was returned pronto, as it was in worse condition than the one i have! i'm cosy doing a full cmos reset, installing fresh/rolling back bios updates etc, the bios issues are just odd.

I really like this rig and would prefer it stay alive and kicking a while yet, thoughts welcome, especially about the cpu and mb. I'm a Linux user, mainly customised Debian for serious stuff, Linux Mint for play.

Yes, I have successfully ran stable diffusion 1.4 and GPT-2 on a 3rd gen i7, but my guess is that more powerful models should be available by now.
 
Don't look at me. I have no idea about hardware. I can do modular stuff, like swapping out a hard drive and partitioning it, but problems like that would be a googled issue for me.

Cheers and hugs Soulsis, you too Lynx and no worries, maybe there's someone about who has ideas. However, i am techy and have a couple of friends who are too, so not hopeful about better ideas than mine.
