If you're implying that it cannot rightly be transliterated, "deaconess" you are correct, because it is not a feminine term in the Greek. If you are thereby implying that it cannot refer to a female, you are incorrect, because it is used of Phoebe. She was a "diakonos" and therefore a deacon. It is only by an a priori belief that females cannot be deacons that leads one to believe that it could not be translated "deacon" in Romans 16.
