Yeah, no more K-Marts in the US. The couldn't compete with Walmart. Kind of sad actually because that chain was the biggest at the time before Walmart.

No, asking questions is the best way to learn, I am not sure,

First of all you made that statement in the form of a question. and then used the exclamation mark instead of the question mark.
Second you didn't capitalize the A in Am, or the I in I or I'm.
Third to make it a statement drop the Am I.
To make it a statement you have to drop the "Am I"
I think this proves you may have been educated in the United States.
To correct the Grammar you would have to change the Lying to Lied making it "I lied about telling the truth, that I am Lying."
The statement is debateable, either your telling the truth now that you lied about being honest earlier, or your now lying about telling the truth earlier.
Either way a statement like that would make your character and testimony questionable.

I was reading a book called 'How to Be Australian' and it turns out the author is not Australian she's from Winnipeg, Canada.
She moves to Australia, and finds she doesn't fit in.
She also writes some not very complimentary things about Winnipeg.

Yes, I don't know if I have central heating, only one heater in my apartment works.
Well when a country is hot all year round, it's unlikely anyone is going to need central heat.
New Zealand isn't hot all year round ---! We have problems with damp and cold as well. Thankfully more people have heat pumps and insulation in their homes now. But the other problem is now newer houses are too hot. Can't win.
Winnipeg is cold and wintry all year, and the cold and snow is blech, even when it melts its all grey and disgusting because its polluted etc. Mostly her complaints are about the weather. I don't think she gets to meet many people. When she lived in Australia most of all the people she met and were friends with were expats from other countries and no actual Australians.
Anyhow I was kind of expecting a better book about How to be Australian written by an Australian. Author just decided since Australia was warmer than Canada, and her husband found a good paying job there, that she'd have to settle there despite being miles away from her parents/family and so she got her citizenship. Then she flat out wrote that she expected to fit in because she was white and middle class.

She kind of glossed over the whole 'White Australia' racist policy like you really have to confront that and understand not everyone will be 'white middle class' like you Lassie. I was like where is this idea coming from? Is it entitlement like 'pretty privelige' ?? Also Australia was a former British colony that was like the island prison of convicts from England. They didn't have room for them all there so packed them off to Australia.
'Tis the lucky country for them, cos they didn't rot in a jail cell in England. But lassie of course committed no crimes that we know of, and just whined the whole time.

I didn't know that, I have never been to New Zealand. I understand that, what about electric heaters and air conditioners? one for summer and the other for winter?
I have lived in Winnipeg for a year, it's only cold and snowy from about November to April. I know but shocking suprise, I don't think their is any human being that doesn't complain about the weather....

I think at the time it was just cheaper and more efficent to cast people into exile than house and feed them in prisons.

Heat pumps are like air conditioners combined with electric heaters.
We don't have one in our house but they are now mandatory for new builds and rentals.
When its cold in this house we just put on the electric oil heater and close the doors to warm up the place. I wear an oodie.
When it's hot we just open the windows and doors. The house is real brick not cladding so its not as bad as wooden houses that can be drafty and leaky.
