I initially got saved because I received and appropriated the grace of God that he offered. That is exactly how and why I am still saved today. God's grace is always extended to all men, but one must receive that grace through faith.

How would you answer the question: What must a man do to get saved?
Which is it? Grace? Or grace plus your appropriation?

Grace doesn't need to be appropriated. Do you need to appropriate sunshine or rain? Both are graces of God and freely given. Salvation is the same. God simply grants it and it is so. Our responses to His grace do nothing to affect salvation; they merely evidence that salvation has indeed transpired.

Believe into the Lord Jesus and thou shalt be saved.

I reject clarifying as a OSAS but the majority of those I know who do they still are doing as the other truly saved people are. You sin and you confess and repent. It doesn't mean that you lost your position as someone saved. It means that because we unfortunately continue to sin we don't become apostate and lose being saved so you must get saved all over again.

The Apostle Paul said he dealt with a specific sin that at times even he fell victim to. And this is where the portion of his Letter he wrote that directed to crucify the flesh daily. But he never wrote that had he sinned he suddenly lost his eternal Salvation. He wrote about putting it under the Blood that was shed on Calvary which is his way of saying he asked for forgiveness and repented.

Now there are Grace people that take Grace to a level of out of context by living as you can continually sin without regrets and repentance. But in general the OSAS people are doing similar to Paul.

Is grace what we do or is grace what God does? If grace is what God does and we are saved by grace, God's actions save us. Further, when it comes to salvation, when God's word goes forth, it always accomplishes whatever God purposes...Isaiah 55:11. Thus, when God sends forth His word, it doesn't always produce salvation; but when it does, that was God's purpose and the exercise of His grace.

I guess it depends what you mean by "appropriate." You say above that we do not need to "appropriate" grace, but then you talk about our "responses" to His grace . . . Are you making a difference between "responding" to grace and "appropriating" grace?

When you say "believe" and then you will be saved. Does that mean you yourself need to "do" something and this is what saves you?
No. Our belief is the result of the faith we now possess that came by hearing, and the hearing by the word of God.

Many people believe Romans 10:17 says faith comes by hearing the word of God. That's not what the verse says. It says faith comes by hearing, and hearing comes by the word of God. This isn't simply a physical transaction. It is a spiritual transaction wherein God employs the word of God and the Spirit to produce a spiritual hearing which results in understanding.

I'm saying we don't appropriate grace. Either God acts and extends grace or He does not. If He does act in our favor, that's grace.

So then God's grace is extended to us and if it his will it will produce salvation in us. We are simply passive uninvolved recipients of his grace which produces faith in us. God does all of salvation. We do nothing and are not involved.

Am I understanding that the above is what you are saying?

No. I'm saying when God acts...His grace...that it always produces God's purpose. Grace is God acting on someone's behalf. Until one understands this, people will be confused.

So, if we are saved by grace, we are saved when God does whatever we need to be saved. If what God does is predicated in any way by something we do, it is no longer grace.

God can use the same sermon to exercise grace to one and not another. When God does employ a sermon to produce faith in us, that is grace and we believe as a result. When He does not, we leave the sermon unchanged and without receiving God's favor or grace.

God is under no obligation to extend grace to anyone.

Once God does extend grace, an individual will be saved and will respond. It is impossible to do otherwise. When an individual receives a new heart and spirit, and has the Holy Spirit dwelling in them, they have become a new creation.

Assumptions?

Yes, Certainly, most critics of osas assume Grace believers who serve God 'out of love'
Because
He Eternally Saved us By His ALL-Sufficient Precious BLOOD, Eliminating our
"works of righteousness" From The Salvation Equation,
assume we are teaching a:

"gospel of simply believe and then 'go ahead' ( greasy grace? ) and live the way you want'".

Far FAR from it - As God Is our Witness, we teach what Paul ( God's administrator
Of Free Grace ) taught us:

"Being Justified Freely By His Grace Through The Redemption That Is In Christ Jesus"
(Romans 3:24 cp "works = debt Owed" in Romans 4:4 AV):

1) Biblical Fact of FREE "...[ God's Undiluted ] Grace * Through faith..." Salvation!
+
'Rightly Dividing' God's Relationship vs our fellowship!:

2) Vast Multitude ( 144 + ) of Plain And Clear AV Scriptures for new-born Grace believers
[ and older believers who are still Confused? ]!!:

+ Updates: (of # 11) + (of #14)
+
+

3) Further, Grace Itself Teaches!!!!:

"For The Grace Of God That Bringeth Salvation Hath Appeared To all men
Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live
soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for That Blessed
Hope, and The Glorious Appearing of The Great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
Who Gave Himself For us, that He might Redeem us from all iniquity, and purify
Unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works"
(Titus 2:11-14 cp "Conformed To The Image" in Romans 8:29 AV)

4) Admonishing From Scriptures for them to "run The Grace race" For Eternal/Incorruptible
rewards!!! (1 Corinthians 9:24 AV), At...

{ Question: Are all Grace believers going to live as they should? Each Will
decide for his/her own self, eh? }:

...Christ's Bema Seat Judgment (1 Corinthians 3:8-15 cp 2 Corinthians 13:5 AV)

With This Great Eternal Salvation verse!!!:

"...If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he
himself Shall Be Saved; yet so as by fire." (1 Corinthians 3:15 AV)

In all humility and kindness, we ask critics to please "cease and desist" from assuming
false
ideas about us, please? And, please:

Grace is what brings Salvation to the lost sinner. Grace doesn't force the lost sinner to be saved but reveals to the lost sinner how and why they need God. A person must be receptive while hearing the Gospel preached when the Holy Spirit comes upon them and opens their understanding of why they need God. You are literally sitting and listening but truly hearing the Gospel preached when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. It's nothing you are doing but actually hearing what you are listening to.

I don't pretend to know the intricacies of this argument but I am very slow to judge this issue.

I have sought forgiveness for my sins many, many times. Each time I have eventually found myself beaten down once again. A thousand times I've gotten back up, only to repeat the cycle once again. I believe in the saving grace of God through his son. Does my eventual fate happen by chance, depending solely on where I happen to be in the cycle at the end?

I don't know about OSAS, but the argument appears a bit irrelevant to me.
