Your sources are not reliable or not good enough for me. Please provide proof with better and more reliable sources.

Edit: I especially loled at the one called "Teacher fired for being an atheist?" Here's a quote from it.

"Is it possible that he was suspend for other, justifiable reasons and he's just using this as an excuse to gain sympathy? Yes, because there isn't a lot of information coming out right now and there's just no way that anyone has a full picture of what's happened."

So in other words, they can't say for sure that he was fired for being an atheist. Guess they don't need facts for claims like that.

LOL, bahahahahahaha. Let's all shed crocodile tears for the poor atheist. Such a martyr. lol

Another bad day for IronTricycle?

@elizabeth

We know how the universe came to be, we don't know why and if there was a purpose to it.

Why do you seem so certain of things you don't know? Clearly a scientific theory is something you don't know, i suggest doin some googling before asking such questions that have already been answered

In other words, we'll extend what little we know to form a belief about why what little we know happened so we can understand why what little we know happened... based on what little we know.

Nope. More like how we use every other theory. We take what we know and form a hypothesis which offers an explanation for those facts. We test this hypothesis. After this hypothesis passes numerous tests, we call it a theory and use it to expand our knowledge. Thus, we use the little we know to help us know more in order to allow us to see farther.

Please look up the definition of a scientific theory. Your response here screams that you are not aware of the definition.

Really? Elizabeth 619 asks a decent question and you turn that around to infer she is ignorant? Evolution is a theory that atheists think is a fact. Why not simply answer her question?

The question was meant to be a rhetorical device and it shows that she and you have not done the groundwork research on the topic. If her question was worded differently then I would have answered it, but I can tell that you and her are already resistant to the science, and apparently lack the drive to do the relatively easy research on your own. Sometimes it is important to point out when someone doesn't know what they are talking about so it will hopefully give them pause before asking more questions without doing some research. But if you are too lazy to google the term scientific theory, here's a video that explains it rather nicely: Evolution Warning Labels and Scientific Theory - Kenneth Miller - YouTube

Ha! Looks like I hit a nerve with a few people. How entertaining.

If you find willful displays of ignorance entertaining. Thanks for removing any sort of guilt I had over the tone of my message. You can point out that someone is ignorant, but you can't make them actually bother to fix their ignorance.

IronChariots,

I learned the basics of the Evolution Theory in high school too (many years ago) but back then it was all about the survival of the fittest. If it's changed from that focus, I didn't know. I apologise. Where did Darwin get the idea of looking after the poor and needy? From the Bible. Sure he changed his beliefs but he was raised as a Christian and some of those truths stuck to him throughout his life. And I know he wasn't the first to propose the theory of evolution. There was a Greek philosopher thousands of years ago who suggested the idea, which didn't really take off. Then an ancestor of Darwin proposed the idea and it gained a few more followers. Darwin just popularized the belief.

I apologise if it came across that I was lumping you in with the Nazis because you believe evolutionary theory. That wasn't my intention. It was questioning why a world that largely believes in evolutionary theory believes we should look after those people. I wasn't equating you guys with Nazis. Still, there's no denying that Social Darwinism borrows heavily from Darwin's writings. The fact that you don't support eugenics, while believing in evolutionary theory, proves that your understanding and values are different and more grounded in a Judeo/Christian belief system.

Now as to whether or not the Nazis were Christian or not, I think it's safe to say that they weren't Bible-believing Christians. Yes, some belonged to Protestant and Catholic churches but attending church doesn't make you a Christian any more than sitting in a garage makes you a car (a tired illustration, I know - sorry). Also, the values and beliefs they shared were anything but Christian. They incorporated Gnostic, Germanic and Roman paganism and occult practices to create their own religion. Adolf Hitler was a deranged man. He hated Christians only less than he hated Jewish people. He and his party destroyed countless churches and art works, Bibles and other books and executed thousands of pastors and many Christians. Surely he saw them as a threat, especially since much of Germany and Austria claimed to be Christian (even if just socially or by name).

*Facepalm. Yes, on certain issues like the definition of a term, a simple google search will more than suffice. On other sorts of information you might have to check which websites google pulls up but you can still easily find with a quick search. Then there are some forms of information that require a specialty search engine like pubmed, google scholar, ebscohost, etc. Now there is some info that is not accessible online, but a ton of information is online. It's really inexcusable for someone like you who lives in our society to be unaware of the vast wealth of information that is available in a matter of seconds.

Age =/ Wisdom. I hope I never become proud of my ignorance. That's a little too orwellian for me. I still find it rather depressing that you've yet to bother to cure your ignorance.

So now I am unaware because I asked a simple question about a search engine? Ok.

Yes, by definition you are unaware if you don't know that the information is readily available. And don't try and pretend that your question was totally innocent. So, now that you are aware of the wealth of information out there, have you cured your ignorance on the issue at hand? Do you know what it means to be a scientific theory? If you want you can look at this youtube video I posted earlier: Evolution Warning Labels and Scientific Theory - Kenneth Miller - YouTube

Prove it or quit the childish retorts. Act your age for crying out loud.

I wasn't the one talking down to others if I do recall correctly.
As a matter of fact this all sparked from a simple question about theory. FYI, I'm well aware what scientific theory is. I'm also aware that theories can be altered, improved, modified and disproven as more evidence emerges.
I actually asked the "ignorant" question to see the response. Just from the response I can tell that CC has been infiltrated by a group of "know-it-all" atheists who aren't here to learn the "other side" respectfully but to somehow make theirselves feel superior in some way because they value science more.
What's interesting is how you percieve yourself as extremely intelligent(and I do believe you are) but it takes one simple comment to set you off like bomb. This sent up a red flag to me.

This "I'm smarter than you" mentality is childish, foolish, and extremely pointless. Many of is have seen this over and over again, and it has been old for quite a while. Unfortunately you're not the first person to act this way and you certainly will not be the last.

Was I childish in even acknowledging your petty comments? Yes I was. I apologize for that, but don't think you're better than anyone else because you believe differently. If by chance that is how you think then I do pity you. Your intelligence is wasted.

Amdg's profile says he's a Christian, not an atheist. From where I'm sitting all I see is someone creating division amongst believers and siding with the atheists. Not that we should be picking sides but you'd think one's worldview/beliefs would inform their values and understandings of the world.
