Just thought I would share.

I had recess duty today and a kindergartner came up to me on our way outside. He had the biggest smile on his face and said to me, 'Ms. I think Mrs. P was just threatening us.' I was confused as to what he was talking about and asked him. He then giggles and tells me how he is suppose to be staying inside today. He proceeds to tell me how his class was not being good and he didn't understand why he was going outside, when his teacher had said they were going to miss some recess.

His comments made my day. I truly love the honest/innocent nature of kids. :)

I was reminded that..

* With children it's important to follow through with what you say and to be consistent.
* Children are very smart and understand much more than many think they do.
* We are teaching children not only through what we say, but by what we do and don't do.

Children are truly a precious gift from God!:) Lets be mindful as to what kind of witness we are to them.
 
Totally agree. Children learn more by example than by what we tell them. :)
 
It's been said that most of what children learn is caught, not taught.
 
It's also been said that children are closer to God...
My little brother, with my mom's last baby, he told her she was going to have a "blue baby". Turns out, a couple days later, she found out she was pregnant, and then my littlest brother was born, he is my mom's first blue-eyed boy.
And...
When I was younger, I told my mom in the only way I knew how, that an earthquake was going to happen. We were moving out of Utah, and just when we crossed the border, into Wyoming, I told her that the dinosaurs were coming, and they would make the ground shake. The very next day, there was an earthquake in Utah.
 
That's very neat BlueAngel! Thanks for sharing! I have heard other stories that were like that as well. It always amazes me how the Lord can and will work through children. Your mum must have thought you had quite the imagination at first. :)

OH, I know this... My uncle is really crazy funny, and it rubs off on all his kids, so my cousins are some of the most random, crazy, hilarious people you will ever meet. EVen his two-year-old daughter has got it. :p :D

They're very creative. And Einstein once said that imagination is more important than knowledge.
 
I've read and reread the OP's story like 5 times, and I don't get it. Can someone please explain what the heck this kid was talking about? :o

You're not alone. The only explanation I can come up with shows that the kid wasn't too bright if only observant. And that goes against the original topic of this thread.
 
Basically the little boy is saying Mrs. P was bluffing & only threatening to take recess away. The little boy didn't understand why they were allowed to have recess after Mrs. P threatened to take some away. So the little boy learned Mrs. P will say things that she may not follow through or just threaten, bluff, to keep the kids calm. Kids, unbeknownst to them, learn very rapidly.

This little boy was reflecting on what Mrs P said. If you have someone who reflects on words afterward, I'd say thats bright. Or you can have the kid who just uses glances to see if he's being watched which, to me, doesn't seem as bright.
 
Thank you MrHonest for explaining :) Sorry if it wasn't clear enough. I personally think the connection that this student made about the teacher not following through with her threat was pretty strong. It was that situation that made me think that children are always learning and taking things in from the actions of others, therefore we should be more careful or at least aware of what we are doing/saying when they are around. That's all :)
