I knew in my 3 re-writes that I ended up leaving something out!

I like the idea of group dating, and really like the idea of involving parents as is strongly encouraged in modern courting.

Keeping a relationship public until marriage seems very beneficial when people are "in it for marriage from the start"

How did this thread go from being about being a guest in someone's home to being about cohabitating? I haven't seen any christians in this thread promoting cohabitation and I can't imagine that they would. Why has the topic been changed?

I suppose I could see the group dating thing when one is talking about a youth group, but how would adults do that?

I'm wondering if we have different opinions because we look at it from different perspectives. Some look at it from the teen dating/youth group perspective. Some from the young adult and inexperienced perspective. Some from the I'm older, but haven't dated much perspective. Some from the parental perspective. Some from the not married anymore perspective.

Jesus was led into the desert to be tempted of satan...I do not think the sin is in being tempted, because temptations will come, but in the falling. If you perservere under trial, then you grow and become stronger. If you never get in the water, you cannot learn to swim. Sure, if you learn to swim and become familiar with water, you could drown being too familiar with it, but it is less likely.

If we avoid temptations as if they are the curse, then we will often be led to avoid situations that could strengthen us...

God bless
tony

This is only true to a degree. To use your analogy, someone who knows they are a weak swimmer shouldn't jump in the water when they know it is a beach that is prone to rip tides. A recovering alcoholic would be foolhardy to hang around a bar to "strengthen" themselves. People need to be aware of themselves know what their strengths and weaknesses are, and avoid those temptations where they know they are weak.

As far as most temptation goes, according to scripture we are to wrestle with what comes our way. God promises to not allow us to be tempted beyond what we are able to resist, however I see nowhere in scripture that says we should intentionally put ourselves in situations that will cause temptation for us. Likewise, sexual sin is the only temptation that scripture specifically instructs us to flee.

No, Jullianna is the other. :D

Scandalous!!!!!! **begins to see Jullianna in a new light**

OK, enough picking on Jullianna....for now. ;)

I really dislike giving advice on this sort of topic without knowing the person very well. I think that most mature adults are capable of staying under the same roof with people of the opposite gender (obviously not in the same bed) without sinning. I would definitely not make it a habit or long term arrangement though. Some people, however are incapable of it because the temptation would be too great for them to resist. I think any person should honestly search themselves prior to doing this though to determine for themselves whether temptation will be an issue.

Finally, the voice of reason and maturity :) I was like WHAT??? How did we go from saying it would be okay to permit a guest to sleep in another area of your home to saying that it's okay for people to live in sin??????? NO ONE said that.

Katie, I think maybe you are right, we women just don't think like the guys :) I have a feeling it is far easier for them to be tempted in certain ways.

As for the young adults scenario, I know my folks did a lot of things with their churches young adults groups while they were getting to know each other. I do agree that as we get a little older it becomes less practical, but likewise as we get older our hormones aren't raging quite as much so the those temptations are considerably easier to resist.

**thinks Jullianna must be thinking of someone else** :D

Yeah..I guess the raging hormones thing makes sense. :)

When I think about the group dating thing it just seems so wierd. It would creep me out to think other people were dating the same person I was. I don't share well in that way. :) It sounds kinda like The Bachelor or something. :)

So you mean doing things together as a group rather than using the group as a dating pool as some do? That sounds like a far better idea. :)

**thinks the concept of group dating was misunderstood** :o

What I meant by group dating was dating among a group of peers, not a group of peers dating among each other, more specifically a couple going to the movies or dinner with a group of friends, usually other couples.

LOL! Good! I was wondering if you guys had completely taken leave of your senses :)

Where else but here could I go from being thought to be "the voice of reason and maturity" to being thought to have taken leave of my senses all in under an hour? :)

**shakes his head** Women, I'll never understand them. :D

You are SO off my voice of reason and maturity list now, Mister!, she said whilst sticking out her tongue.:p:D

It has been my experience that people who cohabit commit fornication. Most holy people put up barriers to keep them from sin. Some of you on this thread sound just like people who have failed in the past . You sound like the world. Most Christians are against cohabiting but the world loves to cohabit. Just think what the Devil could do if he convinced Christians to cohabit. Not to judge our brother but many people would fall if everyone did this. Who is to say he is strong enough; that is judging aswell.

And this doesn't sound judgmental at all, does it?

I have never "cohabitated" with a male I wasn't related to, but I have failed in other ways in my lifetime. Everyone has, whether they are willing to admit it or not and whether they are christians or not. If not, we wouldn't need a Savior.

What we are to ask of God:
Matthew 6:13
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one

If we should ask God to not lead us into temptation, isn't it foolish to charge into it of our own accord?

Facing temptation to accomplish God's will, facing temptation to spread God's word, facing temptation to SAVE someone is far different from charging into a temptation fraught endeavor for selfish reasons.

Its the difference between a soldier who kills when he must and a soldier who kills when he can. Gods armor can withstand much, but charging into a battle that doesn't help your commander win the war is not wise. To me this is a much more accurate metaphor than learning to swim. Charging into a battle to save another, or getting ambushed and having to fight a battle here or there that don't necessarily help win the war is one thing, but planning to fight several battles that don't help work towards the goal is foolish and unnecessarily taxing.

Yes, don't do it, temptation specifically happens on our own accord AFTER having let Satan in. And, once Satan is 'in,' resisting the fruit, so to speak, becomes painstakingly possible (impossible?).

Scripture does give us verses for way out like lightnin' aptly says above and oncewolf says from 1 Cor. 10:13, 'no temptation overtaken you, except such as is common to man, but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.'[/quote]

This is the Lord's best example of 1 Cor. 10:13 at work in my life:

True story: I used to work at corporation and girl there was so friendly to everybody. I was in my mid 30s, she too, she with 4 kids, and, me never have had kids (never been myself in life situatiin where kids could be had). Anyway I didn't think anything of it when she asked me to.dinner one day. I said 'yes,' naively not realizing that once there she was very forward with me and, playing christian music at end of night, soft, romantic Christian music, like 'This is the air I breathe.'

Anyway, it was weird but, at work, she was one of many girl friends (not girlfriend) I had , by association . But once at her house, meeting her kids, 2, 5, 8, and, like 12 , that an attraction started and she wanted to.go further than just talking on couch at end of night and I knew my pact with God and felt His power in me and I politely listened to her say, 'Isn't this song so beautiful?' and she began singing it, getting closer o me, and I agreed and was liking song and , anyway, the reality hit me , HIS REALITY, it was wrong sitation and I left after that 'breathy' song.

* Added: This story speaks of the Lord overcoming as I was (nearly) overcome, the moment was ripe, pun intended. Since that situation, God's strengthened me to resist temptation in questionable situations. Remember scripture says 'resist temptation,' and 'resist the devil,' The devil is INSIDE , at the core workings of the temptation, that when to FRUITION will become sin. :(

My memory remembers:

He is sleeping in room of a girl's house fighterlamb LIKES, not just a girl friend, but a girl he LIKES. I am not using 'girlfriend' term because maybe she don't feel same way liking him.

1. Fighterlamb says he takes long walks with this girl
2. It sounds like he writes 'deep love letters' to this girl.

Double red flag NOT to sleep at her house in a guest room. No, no, no, no, no, no.

Did I say 'no' was my final answer ? No !

Scripture says: ”let your 'yes' be 'yes' and your 'no' be 'no,' lest you fall into judgment.”

OK, granted, maybe not a perfect tie-in to saying no to temptation but the thoughts do connect.
__________
Ok, so, you want to know how to lead yourself into a healthy relationship with this girl, fighterlamb, you go on long walks with and write deep love letters too but you still see as a sister?

Stay away from her guest room. Visit? Sure, but leave at night. Simple.

And, shawnteecee, said, you should 'respect girls like your sister,' is good, but all The respect in The world you have for a girl you LIKE , and, do.things with like 'long walks' needs no chance of seed of temptation to root, grow, become. God taught us all the so-sad Truth of temptation in the beginning of man's time and how we can be living in utter paradise and yet The Enemy can STILL swim in tempting, destroying words, to our minds (remember, ADAM was next to Eve when she ate of the forbidden fruit), in a moment's flash. All gone. Blink. :(

I have not written her anything. I see her as a friend. I walk and talk to her, but nothing overly romantic whatsoever. I do not have a romnantic interest in her. I was giving the other actions of examples of stuff I do, that I do not see as wrong...not that I have done for her. If sexual anything started coming into play, I would stay away.

God bless
