Biblically has God ever used a woman to teach men His truths?

Ariel, also when my husband and I were first Christians we were studying what the leadership was to do, what their purpose was. So thinking on your question, this came to mind although, of course its not exhaustive.

Ephesians 4:11-16

What's the purpose of the Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, Teacher?
~ For the equipping of the saints for the work of service,
~ To the building up of the body of Christ;

For How long?
~until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.

What's are the results
~ we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.

i know in the past ive been wrong based on the truth of the word
and theres been times in my life a woman pointed it out

she didnt TEACH me in a case like this
but she shared some of the truth of the Word i may have over looked being in the flesh


based on the word id never submit to a woman but if she is humble and says something true

who am i to deny the truth

So many people like to take 1 Tim 2:12 and overemphasis it without gleaning what the rest of the Bible has to say or illustrate about the women teaching.

ALL SCRIPTURE is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, (2 Tim 3:16). Therefore, we are not limited to 1 Tim 2:12.

When we are talking about TEACHING it is helpful to study the Bible definitions of TEACH. The Bible defines TEACH as to chastise, instruct -- bind, chasten, correct, punish, reform, reprove, direction, instruction, law, custom, ruling, cause to learn, IMPART KNOWLEDGE, disseminate information.

Definition Sources: Strong's Hebrew: 3256. יָסַר (yasar) -- to discipline, chasten, admonish

Proverbs 31:26 Lexicon: She opens her mouth in wisdom, And the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.

Strong's Greek: 1321. διδάσκω (didaskó) -- to teach

How should women teach? A virtuous woman "speaks with wisdom, and faithful INSTRUCTION is on her tongue." Pr 31:26

Biblical examples of women teaching men:


King Lemuel's mother TAUGHT him the wisdom contained in Proverb 31.
- The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him (Pr 31:1).

Rahab gave the Israeli spies instructions about how to escape out of the city. She imparted knowledge to them.

Deborah was a prophet and judge. She held court and imparted wisdom to the men and women of Israel concerning their disputes. Judges 4:1-4

Wise woman of Abel imparted knowledge (wise advice) to Joab and the men and women in her city. She spoke up at a time when the men in her city were to passive and/or afraid to do it. 2 Samuel 20:16-22

The prophet Huldah was sought after because of her wisdom. Huldah imparted wisdom to king Josiah via his officials about a very important book of law. 2 Kings 22:11-20

Abigail imparted knowledge (wise advice) to David. As a result, David spared the life of Abigail's foolish husband and the rest of the men in her household.

1 Samuel 25 NIV

Priscilla helped her husband (impart knowledge) explain to Apollos the way of God more adequately. Acts 18:24

The woman at the well imparted knowledge (her testimony) to many of the men and women in her town. As a result, many men and women from that town believed in Jesus. John chapter 4

Biblical examples of wives who taught their husbands:

Sarah instructed and imparted wisdom to Abraham concerning a very important household matter, and God told Abraham to obey Sarah:

The child grew and was weaned, and on the day Isaac was weaned Abraham held a great feast.9But Sarah saw that the son whom Hagar the Egyptian had borne to Abraham was mocking, 10and she said to Abraham, “Get rid of that slave woman and her son, for that woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with my son Isaac.” 11The matter distressed Abraham greatly because it concerned his son. 12But God said to him, “Do not be so distressed about the boy and your slave woman. Listen to whatever Sarah tells you, because it is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned. 13I will make the son of the slave into a nation also, because he is your offspring.” Gen 21:11-13

Queen Esther imparted knowledge to her husband about evil Haman and his plan to annihilate the Jews. She basically imparted wisdom to her husband about a situation that was going on right up under his nose in his own home and kingdom. As a result, Esther is honored for risking her life and saving the Jews from annihilation.

So yeah, women are capable of teaching (imparting knowledge) to men, and there are some examples of that in the Bible. Some of this may be a bit redundant because others here may have referenced some of it. However, I don't know if you are married, but it would be very counterproductive for a husband to discount or devalue wisdom from his wife simply because she's a woman. After all, God used Sarah to instruct Abraham in Gen 21:12. God could have given the message directly to Abraham, but God chose to have Abraham obey Sarah instead.

I never liked the "culture" argument.

Human culture changes but most of God's laws are eternal

The Israelites wanted a king like others too, so God gave them a king to enslave them.

I believe we have a hand in creating and shaping our culture.

I am still waiting for more scriptures and what duties people think a pastor has that women don't preform in the Bible.

They can teach, evangelize, comfort, exhort/propheses, pray....don't pastors do all that?

Some scripture is spoken directly to the church. And most scripture is spoken to the whole audience. Just like Galatians 1:6 Paul was not talking to us. But we can take the concept from it and learn from it.

with all authority] The word looks back to the ‘authority’ of St Paul’s own commission Titus 1:3, and implies its delegated fulness. So 1 Timothy 1:1, where see note.

It seems to me that Paul is instructing Titus with the authority of his calling.

It reminds me of the multiple times Moses encouraged Joshua..... "be strong & of a good courage".

Would you agree that Paul in a nutshell is encouraging Titus to use the authority of his calling because he may have been a little backward, or passive?

Honestly? My eyes/mind refuses to do multi-color/font/partial sentences. (Also too small font, but you do give me a size I can read.) I skip over that section. Even when I try to read it, it feels like a record skipping, so I don't get anywhere. And, it's not just you, that's true for anytime someone does that.

And, I'm also suspect when folks bring out little-known Bible versions to prove their case. I immediately wonder, "What's wrong with the usual versions? Do usual versions conflict with what this little-known version says, so I'm being manipulated to believe something because someone found something to go with their wants?"

And, then when the person words a question in such a way, that either I have to agree with him or appear to be a bozo, my B(S)arometer starts making loud noises. Between the three problems, and past experience with you, I gave up trying to figure out what your talking about.

Oh come now! Probably the exact same number that were "influenced" by men! Unless, of course, you can find any sect that accepts only one gender.

Women have been influencing men since Eve. And men have been influencing women since Adam. Suddenly one gender or the other isn't supposed to? Try telling that to your wife or mother. She'll enjoy the laugh. lol

No help from me. I think my denomination was quite wise in developing two kinds of elders:
Teaching Elders

Slavery was a normal thing back then. And we have all sorts of scripture about slaves. But none say we should promote slavery. It just was the culture and God taught people how slaves should be treated among that culture.

Do we agree with slavery today? No we dont because it is not reasonable within our culture.

Actually, I very much do agree with biblical slavery. I can't believe people were so stupid to give it up! It's very reasonable. If America had it, there would be no need for Welfare, Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid, no food stamps, etc. America would be out of the business of holding people down!

imagine u had massive debt and were homeless


u could be a slave to work off ur debt and have a house and food
if u loved the family and they loved you you could choose to be a bound slave and its kinda like part of the family

and if u wanted to leave they gave you means to get ur life started

Not kind of like family. It literally is family. Family has to take you in, and you have to work for them in the best way you can. Bonus points, every time what you do profits the family, you get 10%. The deal is worked out for seven years (or the Year of Jubilee, whichever comes first), and at the end of that seven years, you can keep the profit you gained and buy yourself some new land to start over.

And, if you can't, because you're old or disabled, then you get a pierce ear, and you choose to stay a slave with your family.

The number of cults or sects has nothing to do with the gender of its founder. It has everything to do with the biblical literacy of its followers,male or female.
