Rats! I thought Canada might be excluded, especially because in the West we export power. But according to the .... psychic.. examiner, I am going to get hit.

I guess the planners don't realize that it has been -17 C nightly here. (1F) Our wonderful gas furnaces need electricity to switch on and off. Great idea, that one. Make "not freezing to death" dependent on not one, but two non-renewable resources.

So I guess I will be sleeping by the gas fire place, if this psychic examiner is correct. Too bad I am allergic to wood smoke. Those were the days of not being dependent upon companies and a nice cozy little wood cabin in the woods.

Then again, this could be just another conspiracy theory. Oh wait, wrong forum!

Ate a really big lunch today and afterward blacked out in my truck for about twenty minutes.
Love those lunchtime siestas!

Got my tinfoil hat on tight, waiting for instructions.

What's being ridiculed here, at least by me, is that the OP titled this thread "Blackout Planned...",
not "Blackout Drill Planned..." or "Blackout Preparedness to be Tested...".
The headline makes it seem like there is going to be a national three-day intentional blackout.
I think the OP probably really believed that. Sad, really.

Update: Blackout For November Confirmed: Power Grid Drill Nov 13, 14, 2013


At this very moment, thousands of experts in both the utility industries, military and various government security agencies across the United States, Canada and Mexico are preparing for an emergency drill. The drill, which will simulate both physical and cyber attacks on the power grid has been set for November 13[SUP]th[/SUP]-14[SUP]th[/SUP].
Our shared power resources are vulnerable to attack and in the opinion of many, destined to be hit. Former Homeland Security Director Janet Napolitano described an attack as being, not a question of if, but a question of when.
A blow to the grid that resulted in a shutdown would result in a tremendous amount of chaos, civil unrest and ultimately deaths due to violence and a lack of food and water. Inevitably a declaration of martial law would follow such an instance. The human suffering and condition would have us clamoring in the streets for everyday necessities.
No power means there would be no supply of water, gasoline, diesel, frozen food, fresh food, medicines and communications, as all of these are dependent upon electricity for either their delivery or maintenance.
This will be no small operation. It is reported, in fact, to be the largest drill of its type by several times over anything ever done before. Over 150 companies and organizations have signed on as participants.

Great. Several parts of Texas are expecting the first freeze of the year tonight which ALWAYS results in at least one blackout. Either an idiot spins off the highway and plows into a power box, or the Jerryworld monstrosity in Arlington sucks up all the electricity for the metroplex (February 2011; yep, still bitter). Then all the conspiracy theorists will claim victory when it was really just good timing.

Sounds like a name he would have given it himself.
At least you guys will have a place to go live if Hurricane Hillary hits Dallas.
 
The purpose of the thread was first, that those who are interested in these issues were aware of what is being said about this topic. The 2nd purpose was to see for myself if there were any effects of the drill. So, still if you have anything happen unusual please let me know. Will you also post the state if your comfortable with that? Thanks.
 
I'm still getting my Y2K preps together. When I get THAT done, then maybe I'll work on this one.

You mean the same conspiracy sites that say religion is made by men to control men? Alex Jones much?

There are a lot of truths found on conspiracy sites you won't find elsewhere. That being said, I can understand that someone might throw the baby out with the bathwater since the bathtub is the size of a swimming pool.
 
We have had three days blackouts and longer. Never had problems finding foood. Had some problems with food going bad. No street demonstrations. Had problems posting on cc when the computer battery went dead. The world did not stop rotating, though.
 
Tin foil hats are useless in an extended power outage. I know, I've been there.
