Hello everyone.

I could really use some prayer right now.

I am a single guy whose has had a lot of trouble dating in my life. Im 28 and i live in Atlanta. I have never really been a relationship before (Also to make a note i have been struggling with depression and anxiety for about 2 years now)

Earlier this year i began a friendship with a guy at my churches girlfriend. This girl and i were just friends and really enjoined each other company. We just clicked really well. Well long story short she ended up breaking up with the guy back in march because the guy was being a idiot to her.

A few weeks after breaking up with him she begins to reach out to me. So we just started talking and having fun messaging each other. I then decided because she was dating friend before (who he is not really my friend) that we should not date. He is the kinda guy that likes to start crap and did not want to start anything that would cause us alot of stress. She understood and we just kept is as friends. Well time goes on. Also to let you know that right now in my life i dont have many friends. Alot of my friends have moved on in there lives. And i have been trying to get back out and meet people but have had alot of trouble doing so. Back to the story. So we just keeping talking for about a month and everything was great. She then decided that she wanted to be more then just friends. I got really scared because i felt pressured. I spoke with my father about what i need to do. (Both my parents are very godly christian people and are christian counselors). He asked me what God thinks i should do. I felt in my gut that it was a no and i knew it was God. So i told her that we are not supposed to date. She also got the same thing. We were both hurt but we understood. So we began to keep things as friends. I kept pressing the lord about why i still have feelings for her. The lord gave the girl a dream that if she pushed me to hard that it was going to hurt me, and that we needed to take things slow. I got a dream that God has us on 2 paths right now. but if we keep doing what we needed to do that we would meet in the end. So we both decided that we needed to take things slow. We also setup some boundaries for us. So that we would not stumble. We also decided to do a devotion together to keep our focus on God. For me as a guy who has never really been in a any-type of relationship this meant the world to me. So for about the last 2 months we would message each other everyday, Send fun pics to each other and pray and encourage each other. I felt like i was on cloud 9.

One of the main road blocks that i had in this is my family. One of the big issues i saw was that this girl had a hard drug problem for along time and lived a life because of it. She got saved several years ago and turned her life around completely. And she has been clean since. Now i was ok with it. But i knew my family was not. My dad had a drug problem when he was really young. But he turned his life around and got radically saved. So he understands the whole drug thing. I knew that they did not hate her at all but in my heart i knew that they felt that she was not the one for me. But because of all the dreams and impression for God i had i felt that i needed to continue. But i had not told my parents that we were talking about being serious. So about a week ago i decided to talk with my dad about it. That we wanted to be friends and see what God does in the midst of this. He had his reservations about this but he told me that i needed to make the decision. He told me that i needed to talk with my mom about it. I decided to wait a week. Me and the girl were still talking and i told her about my talk with my dad. She was abit concerned but was ok. She also wanted to let her family know about us aswell. But her situation is alot different then mine. i went and i saw her on sunday of last week after church for a few minutes. We had a great time of just walking around her work. I even decided to hold hands with her. I was so happy in that moment. Cause i felt so comfortable. Well after that i went home and told mt dad something new about us. He then told me everything he told me before but said that he does not approve. Not because he hates her, He just knows that she is not the one for me. Well i then decided to have a talk with my mom. My mom knew about us talking because god gave her a impression that we were. She then told me that she is not for us either. Because the other thing is that the girls family is kinda in a weird place on somethings. She told me that if i were to marry her then i would be marrying the whole family. I knew that when she was talking to me it was because she cared for me so much. It was not out of control but out of love. She then told me a story about a man of God called watchmen nee. He wanted to do this mission trip with a friend of his. They prayed and new that God told them to do this. He went to his parents and told them about the mission. The forbid him to go. He got angry. His friends told him to defy his parents because they all new that he heard from the lord. But as a act of obedience he stayed home and did not go on the mission. His friend went and got killed during the mission. Later on he was still able to go and do the mission. So God allowed him to complete the work he told him before to do.

I knew that in that moment i had to break this off with her. Because all i saw was alot of hardship for the two of us down the road. But i still did not want to break it off. So later on a called her sobbing that my parents dont approve. And then told her that i felt in my heart that i needed to obey my parents even though i am a grown man and follow the watchman nee scenario in this. To respect my parents wishes even though i dont want too. I then told her some of their concerns about us. I knew that she was hurt and upset. I felt like the most wretched thing in the world. And to make matter worse she is about to go on a mission trip with the church she is attending in about a 2 weeks. So i told her that we needed to just lay this at the cross and when she gets back we can decided what God wants us to do. If he wants us just to keep it on a friends level or to break it all off complete.

The hardest thing for me is that she was everything i wanted in a girl. Some who has a deep love for God, Some one who wants to go into the ministry, who understands me as a person, someone who see's my worth, someone i could be best friends with, someone who makes me laugh, someone to encourage me to get better and be a better man and someone who is very beautiful.

I am just so hurt right now and i dont know what to do. Part of me still wants to go for it but the other wants to listen to the wisdom of my parents and not pursue it. So any prayer that you all can give me would be a great help.

Your parents have no right to tell you that you will have a bad future. They don't know. You could end up marrying someone they approve of completely who will be a horrible wife. It sounds to me like you love her. Don't let your parents get in your way. YOU get to choose who you marry, no one else. I hope it all works out for you two.

Eventually you have to decide for yourself it's your life. It's not fair to the woman that you're so wishy-washy. If she's what you want and believe God has her for you then man up and deal with the inevitable.. Aman is supposed to leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife .. that means they get no say over your affairs.. why not start it now.. if your dad turned around and still says no, it's sounds selfish IMO... Sorry if it sounds harsh, I'm big on turning a deaf ear and being happy

First of all Welcome Vine, Its great to have you here
you have come to the right place
Second, Im very sorry to hear about whats going on In your life
Im going to have to let someone else help you dear
Maybe a man on this site who has been though some of the same stuff
But I will say a pray for you
God Bless

You should always honor your parents but as a grown man you don't have to obey them. If you want to go for it you better hurry before she writes you off and moves forward with her life without you. This is a decision you will have to make on your own. I'd be hurt too letting my heart's desire slip away from me. Glad to have you join us. Welcome to CC.

This is an amazing story
Indeed I'll say a prayer
That God's will be done
Either which way it goes for you
I am touched and empathize a little bit
Though I do not even have such a female friend
Being torn between a parents' preferences
And one's own views in the opposite sex and interests
To that I can very much relate
And if I'm not mistaken I ain't too far behind in age
It is indeed a rock and a hard place
Even just to give any advice
It is hard to choose with this which path in your shoes I'd take
I just hope for the moment then that you will not feel too bad
Or too anxious, two weeks is a long time
And worrying over it will not make it faster pass by
Let your heart have some ease
I think your conclusion is wise
To lay it at His feet
And I hope either way the best for you in Jesus

I also apologise for giving advice when you didn't really ask for it.. I try not to but some things catch me off guard.. Id hate to see someone lose out on love because of fear

Your parents know you more then you think. They may also know the Lords will on your life. It has nothing to do with her being a bad or a good person.
I gave up on a lovely lady about a year ago. While I can say we hardly really spent time together due to distance, all while dating I felt deep down I was uneasy. Nearly all our dating was shared online or over the phone. One day a word of the Lord answered prayers to say I had a choice to be with her or do Gods will. (Regarding a specific thing). I know I will marry in the future. You know if the person is right as you will get the spiritual "Click" and not just the physical attraction or friendship.
The hardest part for me is the breaking up of a good friensship as she couldn't cope with being friends. She has another boyfriend now. (I prayed for such and abouth a week later they were an item). I'm glad for them. Just sad to lose both of their friendship, but I'll live!
Dating is to see if the person is right or wrong. Deep down you know if you are at peace or uneasy with her. I think your parents may sense this more then you. Nothing wrong with the girl or you. Just God has other plans if this is the case.
Only you really know if it is right or wrong and from what you have said it may be a no or a wait!
I hope all goes well in the future and Gods plan prevails!

Hey everyone. Thank you all for your prayers and concerns. So i was able to get a resolve. I have spoken to a few people i trust who both know me and the girl. They have all agreed that this was a good decision to breakup and just be friends. Not that me or her are bad they just know us both and agree that it would not work. Me and the girl have talked and we both agree that we do really care for each other and we do want to stay friends. But we do need to take take some time apart to heal. We both gave our hearts away to quick. I told her that when she is ready to reach out to me and we can pick up where we left off and she agreed. Im not saying that this made it all better cause it did not. But it does help to know that we will down the road soon be able to be friends again. Because she was like my best friend and she felt the same. Thanks again for all your prayers.
