ok, i'm not against a diploma or a stable job, but are we doing it the world's way?
 
Yeah i believe we are .... we say put God first and we will get these . But we really invest much in all of these and less in God. And we eventually get what we want
 
I think you both have discovered a trap most of us actually rush to become willingly entangled in.

We swear we trust God.... but it's really only as far as we can maintain our own self-made net of safety beneath us.
 
to trust God is written in the scriptures for sure,
and so is this:

For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule:
"The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat."
(2 Thessalonians 3:10)

i'm not saying that anything should keep you from doing His will, but God's way for us is not to throw off all responsibilities and demand charity. even Paul made tents for a living while he traveled around as a missionary, so he wouldn't be a burden to the people he was bringing the gospel to. ((Acts 18:1-3, 1 Thessalonians 2:9, 2 Thessalonians 3:8))

i believe there is a difference between developing and using the talents God gives us, and working to support yourself and your family, and in trying to get rich or gain lots of power and importance. not that everyone who is blessed with riches is evil either, or that everyone who is poor is righteous.

He promised to bless us spiritually, not to make us wealthy, if we put Him first. and joy, peace and wisdom are worth more than any amount of $$$ !! those things can't be bought.

It is a very eye-opening study to search out and list just what those "all these things" are that the Bible says will be added.

Sorry, I made the assumption that everyone here was either a Christian, or was fairly familiar with the Bible.

Here is the short version, Matthew 6:
31 therefore ye may not be anxious, saying, What may we eat? or, What may we drink? or, What may we put round?

32 for all these do the nations seek for, for your heavenly Father doth know that ye have need of all these;

33 but seek ye first the reign of God and His righteousness, and all these shall be added to you.

This (especially verse 33) is a highly quoted, but often not really read passage that Christians usually change the meaning of to claim it is talking about Spiritual pursuits. (Look for God, and He will give you Heaven.)

As you can clearly see, the verses pertain to us receiving the very things "The Nations" (non Jews) strive after. And, the big question SHOULD be, What do "The Nations" strive after?

That's right, they DO NOT strive after Spiritual peace and contentment.

So, it takes a lot of Scripture choking to make those verses say that creature comforts (what The Nations strive for) are not the true subject being discussed. We Christians tend to let ourselves get Super-Spiritual, and believe that we do not hope for a job promotion, a raise, a big screen TV, an X box, an upgraded smart phone, a newer car, a nicer, larger home... maybe a boat.

But, the truth is placed right in front of us in these verses.

Yes. And it is normal to desire them. Heck, even the Christians who disdain those comforts as being of the world, are actually praying for them regularly in their hearts..... but the "guilt" most of us were taught is "Christianity", keeps us all screwed up inside for enjoying nice things..................................... BUT look at what we expect and long for in a magic by-and-by called Heaven.... GOLD! Silver, Jewels.... and worse, POWER and ruler-ship over others. Why we even look forward to violence and revenge, while slaughtering other humans with swords from horseback.

Aye, there is a whole mess of twisted teaching that our perversion of Biblical worship has left us thoroughly confused about.
 
Education is valuable. "Higher education" is plain expensive.

Worldly, though? Depends on the person and their motives.
