Can one blaspheme the Holy Spirit unintentionally?

I ask this because a lot of Christians worry they have accidentally committed this sin. Because after all, who in their right mind would want to commit this sin on purpose?


So for those who believe we can commit the unpardonable sin today, do you think God has mercy for those who commit it ignorantly? Or does it not matter whether it's done on purpose or not?


Just wanted to hear some opinions.

I’m my understanding is correct then no one has ever committed blasphemy as of yet. Blasphemy is when we are called up before the anti-Christ and refuse to let the Holy Spirit speak through us; that’s just my understanding of it.

I DO think an unsaved person can commit this sin unknowingly. I DO NOT think a Christian can do so.

The Bible identifies the unpardonable sin: denial of the Holy Spirit. In other words, it is a rejection of Jesus Christ, and unbelief of what God has said and what the Spirit has testified.

If one persists in this sin, they will certainly perish.

IMO If a person has gotten to the point that they no longer feel ANY conviction from GOD then they have blasphemed the HOLY SPIRIT.

People have committed this sin using me as the catalyst for it.. Being a Christian who has been engaged in online discussions about religious beliefs and doctrines tends to put you into a category where someone being overly contentious will make the accusation that you are supporting a doctrine of demons or you are a servant of satan..

Of course when someone does this to a Holy Spirit indwelled Christian they are actually accusing the Holy Spirit of being a demon / satan, which is blaspheming the Holy Spirit.. Of course the person does not believe you are indwelled by the Holy Spirit, so their intention was not to blaspheme the Holy Spirit. But that is exactly what they have ended up doing..

Just as the scribes who declared that Jesus did His miracles by the power of beelzebub they where probably convinced that Jesus was an agent of the devil but they where very wrong and where guilty of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit..

He did.. But it was not blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.. He did blaspheme Jesus i believe..

I think there is a great chance it can be done by accident. In my mind, to blaspheme is more than just to not speak of God in a reverent way- it is to not be careful enough and to not be as respectful of Him as we should be. So if you have been disrespectful or slipped up or not listened when you should have, then I think you have definitely committed a great sin. It may not be blaspheming, but it's not ok. It really depends on how you define blaspheme in this case....

But what if someone who is unsaved was raised that way and doesn't understand that what they're doing is completely against the Word? I'm not defending the actions, just curious what other's belief about that is. I joined a Christian homeschool community that highly encourages questions and thinking outside the box and so I have been affected and it's actually really healthy for me. SO please don't take this the wrong way, I just want to hear your opinion on that exception I just proposed!

I know anais and saphhira did but they cannot claim it was an accident, they KNEW they kept the money back.

I think if they had not known, but found out later, they could have fessed up if they were true christians, or not said anything and hope they would not be found out, but I dont think it works that way

A lot of people hide their sins and operate on the basis of...'if I dont get caught, I can get away with it'
But, I dont think you can actually hide anything from God. Once the light shines, its there for everyone to see.

Blasphemy against the HOLY SPIRIT can only be done at the spiritual level.
Comes from knowing the truth and continuously rejecting the truth until you believe your own lie (so to speak)
