There's this little tiny fear in the back of my brain because as a child I had Chicken Pox, that I could also get Shingles as an older adult. I keep seeing ads about a vaccine to prevent this, but here's the thing - I'm not a big fan of vaccines in general unless it is mandatory or for more serious diseases.

My question is this - Can shingles be prevented with healthy whole foods diet with no or minimal sugar intake? Or should i be concerned as everyone else on the SAD (standard american diet) diet? I'm also wondering if anyone here has actually gotten the shingles vaccine as a precaution?

I am very healthy at 89, and I think it is because of a healthy diet and lifestyle. But I did get shingles.

A filling fell out of my tooth, the pain was terrible. This triggered shingles that only centered in my eye, just above the toothache. A shingles outbreak went on my cornea and I lost the sight in that eye in a matter of hours. The shingles was only on my face, it did not attack anywhere else, perhaps my overall health prevented that, don't know.

I don't think that any way I could have lived better could have prevented that, but the singles shot could have.

I agree, medication almost always has side affects that are not good and what they call alternative or preventive medicine is usually better except in an emergency. But I think it is always wise to check out what medicine can do for you, and it seems to me this shingles shot can do a lot more good than not taking it.

My other eye has glaucoma, so I am legally blind.

we can understand and sympathize with you about your concern over shingles.
there are quite a few people that we know and have heard about who did contract
this awful scourge.
it seems to be indiscriminate.

my husband and myself have not contracted this, even though we both have
suffered from the 'chicken pox' and the other childhood maladies.

we do attribute not contacting shingles with our health regimen,
a very strict and mostly Biblical diet pattern, including growing organic
and eating green.

as far as a vaccine is concerned, neither one of us would consider
getting any kind of vaccine in this day and age.

hope this helps in some way.

All I know is that you are more likely to get shingles if you did NOT get the chicken pox then if you got them
