i don't think we want to be the five virgins without enough oil, i don't think we want to be the deceived who love has waxed cold, i don't think we want to be the servant that hid his talent, i don't think we want to be a dog that returns to it's vomit. I don't think we want to be saying Lord and have him say i never knew you.. So I suggest we repent believe, keep repenting keep believing, keep asking keep seeking keep knocking till we know that we know that we know we are his and we are in him and he is in us.

i believe we can't earn it. we don't deserve it. we can reject it, we can neglect to respond to it. We can ship wreck our faith before we receive it, we can become prodigal but still sons, I think we should examine our-selves, make our election sure, work out our salvation with fear and trembling, wrestle for his promise like Jacob and hold on to believing even if our hip gets popped out till he gives us it. i think we should make sure we aren't blind, nekid, wretched and poor walking around saying I am rich, i have fine linen, i am healed, I see.

Good post, I would just like to point out, that though the prodigal son, was still a son, while he was away living for the world, scripture says his condition was "dead". Luke 15:24.

No doubt it meant spiritually dead, as he was not literally dead. He was not "alive again" until he returned to his Father, and that lesson is about repentance.

If we live for the world, forsake our Father, then we are spiritually dead.

Hopefully we will repent and return to our Father before it is too late.

Yet God forbid we die in that state, because no saved Christian is ever described as "dead". So you get my implication there.

Excellent 'light,' God bless you, feedenem :)

Sin separates man from God; God is no respecter of persons, He does not ignore sin in a believer's life. If you have sinned repent and ask God for forgiveness, like the prodigal son came back to his father, and the Heavenly Father who is faithful and just will forgive.
Rom 6:1-2, 15-17, 22-23
1- What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

2- God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
15- What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
16- Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

17- But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

22- But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
23- For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Christ came to redeem us from all iniquities so to go back to your vomit, your old sinful ways, after you have been washed by the precious blood of Christ, and say you are still justified is a lie. There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit (Rom 8:1), therefore walking after the flesh, disobedience, puts one under condemnation.

We must continue to abide in the Christ, bear fruit that shows we are saved, and not get entangled by the frivolities of this world; we must feed our soul with His word and live in obedience to His commands.

Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall (1 Cor 10:12). I don't think the bible would give this sort of warning if there was no possibility of falling.

Side show? Well then this "sideshow" message crushes your once saved always saved, because it show one who believes/disbelieves and does not obey is not saved.

now you have two choices:

1. Obedience does not mean keeping his commands

2. The Only obedience required is to believe

Either of these two can be proved wrong with other passages. unless you have another view that I missed. These show that Jesus obeyed to the point of death, so likewise (and it makes sense) he is only going to save those who obey because we are not greater than our Lord, and he left us an example we are to follow.

Why this is important is because many here teach that once saved, even if we choose to stop obeying, then we will still be saved in the end. I have been told God will bring back the disobedient Christian so he will be saved, and I have been told that a Christian will never be judged for sin.

Seeing sin is disobedience, and seeing this letter was written to Christians, and seeing that is says he is the author of salvation unto the 0bedient, then we can conclude those who do not obey God will not be saved. This does not only apply to non believers, but anyone who chooses sin over God.

The Only thing I will agree with you here is that this passage is not difficult to understand, nor are the others I posted.

You can try and say the disobedient were never saved, I dont agree, but that's fine if you want to say that, still it shows disobedience will cause one to have never been saved at all. If thats the way one wants to word it, okay then,

If one believes that, he should be teaching other Christians that they better be obeying God or they were never saved. Yet none of you teach this? So why not?

If you dont believe this does not pertain to these "who were never saved" then again it proves the point that oSAS cant be true.

So no matter which you choose, your inconsistent, unless your teaching salvation only belongs to the obedient. Then in that sense you would be agreeing with Heb 5:8-9

I see you said "those who do not obey him cannot call him Lord", So then what are you arguing pertaining to salvation? Is it the fact you want others to accept your opinion that if one is lost he was never saved? Or the other opinion that he "lost salvation", what does it matter?

What does it matter if one believes they were never saved, or one believes they lost salvation? What matters is the fact that those who disobey, remain in sin, continue in sin, practice sin, will not be saved, believer or not. Right?

The point is we MUST obey God. Not ONLY "Desire" to obey, no, that is not what the passage says, it says "unto them that OBEY him" not "desire to obey him".

So that is the reason I bring it up. No one answers it. You kinda gave an answer here, but it actually seems in the answer you just gave, you agree with me on the fact that we must obey God. Or I am I missing your point?

Yeah, its a side show. None of this says even close that once a person is saved by the Lord Jesus that they can lose their salvation. Only you say that because you think you have to work to obtain salvation. You cannot comprehend that Salvation is a gift given by God and God doesn't repent of His gifts.

You are looking in scripture at the picture of a saved christian and you are saying we must all be like that, we must all do what that person is doing.
But its not about doing. Its about recieving from the Lord. The Lord has already completed all the work and He gives us the fruit of this work. It is our unbelief that causes us to not recieve these blessings. Our carnal, philosophical minds cannot comprehend a gift of such worth being free. We won't ever understand it. We have to ask for wisdom. Then we have to be humble enough to recieve instruction.

Granpa, your interpretation of II Peter 2 is completly wrong, the text itself shows you this. Please take a look:

Notice what it says these false teachers have done
20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world <----If the "escaped teh pollutions of the world, then it implies they were once God's people.

There is no such thing as an unsaved person that has escaped the pollutions of the world, otherwise he would not be unsaved.

So his being unsaved shows he still is polluted with the world (except those who have never heard, in which clearly these false teachers do not fit).

So if they escaped, then they were saved.

It does not say they "Almost escaped", or "could have escaped" but that they did escape them.

through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, <----If they are "again entangled" in the world, then this implies they were once Untangled through the knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Again there is no such thing as an UNSAVED person who has been untangled from the world through the knowledge of Christ. That is impossible.

and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. <------ They are said to "over come", You cannot "turn from" where you have never been.

They "knew the way of righteousness", accepted it, and turned from it, and this disgusts God, because they forsake him.

The word "turned" in this passage gives the idea of reverting back. Implies they were converted.

22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire

So the false prophets were once:

1. Escaped from the pollutions of the world - Escaped meaning to be free from the bondage

2. Untangles from the world, over came through the knowledge of Christ, and knew the way of righteousness before they could TURN from it.

3. and "turned" reverted back to a life of sin, implying conversion at one point.

Again is it possible for one to (escape or) be FREED FROM THE BONDAGE OF THE WORLD (SIN), and still be unsaved?

Notice the Greek word that is used when it says to TURN from the holy command:

G1994
ἐπιστρέφω -----"TURN"
epistrephō
ep-ee-stref'-o
From G1909 and G4762; to revert (literally, figuratively or morally): - come (go) again, convert, (re-) turn (about, again).

They turned, which according to the Greek, means they "returned", "reverted" back.

In order to "revert" back to something, you had to first CONVERT to something else. In which they did, Christianity, yet Satan found a weakness in them, and used it.

This is the same thing and the same word used in describing the Galatians apostasy:'

Gal 4:9 But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn(Same word in II Pet 2)ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?

Gal 4:10 Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years. <--going back to the law of Moses

Gal 4:11 I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain. <---In vain because if they did not repent, they would fall from grace and Christ would become of no effect to them

Gal 5:4Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace

I am trying to show you, that sin is sin, and it will cause us to fall from grace (reject our salvation) if we do not repent.

Those false teachers described by Peter, are still here in many "churches" everywhere preaching for the same reasons false doctrine.

If these men were never saved, and never really converted, then the word used does not make sense, saying they "reverted back", because the inspired writer would have known that they were never really converted in the fist place, so why did the HS use a word that implies they were converted?

Anyone reading these passages without any preconceived Ideas would not come to the conclusion they were never saved, based on the words, "escaped the world, turned from the command, known the way of righteousness, through knowledge of Christ" etc.

the only reason one would say they were never saved is to attempt to remain consistent with a certain teaching.

yet we should not change what is easily understood to fit our doctrines, instead, we should change our doctrines to fit what the Bible says, and what is easily understood.

2 Peter 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

This is what 2 Peter chapter 2 is describing. Not in any way is this meant to describe a saved christian. I don't quite understand how you think this possibly pertains to saved christians except maybe out of some sense of trying to convince people they can lose their salvation.

2 Peter 2:10-19
10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.
11 Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord.
12 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;
13 And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;
14Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:
15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet.
17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.
18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

No. My interpretation of 2 Peter chapter 2 is spot on. It definitely doesn't have anything to do with saved christians.

But it does show you that you must be a little wary of what some people may try and teach you. Look it up in the word of God for yourself and pray, there is One we can always trust.

it is true it says::
2 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you.

and then as you said grandpa it gives a description of false teacher that are among the believers. I also think they are still among us.

2 Many will follow their unrestrained ways, and the way of truth will be blasphemed because of them.

It shows many will follow the false prophets.. now after the description of them and the warning about listening to them.

18 For by uttering boastful, empty words, they seduce, with fleshly desires and debauchery, people who have barely escaped from those who live in error.

It looks pretty clear he is now warning those who have come to the knowledge of Christ from here on.

19 They promise them freedom (who are they promising if not the converted they are among?), but they themselves are slaves of corruption, since people are enslaved to whatever defeats them.

For if, having escaped the world’s impurity through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in these things and defeated, the last state is worse for them than the first.

why is Paul warning the believers if the have nothing to loose or fear?

oops:) we don't know for sure who wrote 2nd peter.. i was studying 2 cor 12 before I chimed in and had Paul on my mind.. Sorry, wrong apostel... maybe

Good point. Thats what Ive been asking this whole time. Many say he is not warning them, kida takes away from the importance of the message. If you read all the passages warning things like this, Gal 5, Heb 10:26, Luke 12:43, how can all these not be warnings to Christians?

When in doubt Go to Jesus..

15 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vineyard keeper. 2 Every branch in Me that does not produce fruit He removes, and He prunes every branch that produces fruit so that it will produce more fruit. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in Me, and I in you. Just as a branch is unable to produce fruit by itself unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in Me.

5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him produces much fruit, because you can do nothing without Me. 6 If anyone does not remain in Me, he is thrown aside like a branch and he withers. They gather them, throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you want and it will be done for you. 8 My Father is glorified by this: that you produce much fruit and prove to be[a] My disciples.

The one who was talking to them talked pretty clear to us. Should I point it out?

No one will Go to hell because we told them.. Abide in Christ.. confess your sin turn back to him.. Abide in him, remain in him, follow his instruction, heed his warnings, He is Lord yield to his Word if they are lost it won't be because of what we told them.

But, if we tell them say this prayer and it is a dune deal your saved see you in heaven (that is not in the bible). You don't have to be baptized or do anything Jesus said (that is not in the bible). It's ok to ignore all the instruction in the word of God and it is ok to ignore Christ and the apostles warnings because one day you ask Jesus in your heart (that's not in the bible). Oh you don't have to repent that is works, you don't have to forgive to be forgiven that is a work, You don't have to do anything to remain in him (that is not in the bible).

It is very dangerous to build a doctrine off 4 or 5 verses and give them greater value then any other word spoken by God.

"Faith" comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.. you better be speaking and doing his Word
( all of it )instead of a doctrine cause We are saved by Grace through Faith least any man boast

This is my personal theology my personal belief i will not push this or force it on others ever at all.
Eph.2:8-9 James 2:18-19,-Phil.2:12-13,all that together i come up with this:
Faith+Good Works=Eternal Salvation...

I was thinking fast and mis spoke.. We all fall short, none of us will be granted salvation by our own rigorousness, it is true Christ alone is worthy. We have to have him as our advocate. If we remain in him He is in us overcoming the power of sin which leads to death. We can't do all that is in his Word. But, He can "IF" we remain in him..Jesus, John, Paul, Peter all said He can and will.. "IF" we cling, IF we remain, IF we abide in what we have heard from them.

So we can't, won't and haven't done all he has said. But, IF we remain in him what is impossible for us is possible for God.

I remember in nepal we used to sing this song which says I have decided to follow Jesus ,no turning back no turning back with tears n groning, the reasion was theyve been rejected by their family,n society. We were untouchables or in other words unclean, but yet the zeal of God was living through the bones.my friends wud lie to their parents to come to church,my dad used to say if u had a bible boy u got hung upside down n get beating whole night, calvanism or armanian were not known,i know people who used tp borrow bible so that they could copy it down on a note book, cuz they couldnt afford one.

The only reasion m writting this is cuz we can find all the reasions to argue n fight about issues,we totally miss the bigger picture,is our heart burning for him?if it is u will not hav to worry about losing our salvation,if we r in him n he is in us,surly we will bear the fruits of righteousness that only comes through our lord for his glory.
Will leave with ct studds quote God bless
Theres only one life, twill soon be pass,
Only whats done for Christ will last.
When m dying,how glad I shall be
If the lamp of my life was burnt out for thee

There is no warning to believers here. This entire chapter is a description of false teachers, cursed children.

False teachers have plenty of what? Knowledge...

False teachers lack what? The fruits of the spirit, namely Love...

What are believers told? That God has not given you a spirit of fear, but one of power and Love.

Do we fear that we will be entangled in the pollutions of this world? No. We are more than conquerors in Christ.

I guess the gist of what I'm trying to say is that it takes more than the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ to be saved. This whole chapter is describing the type of person that has knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ but is only using that knowledge for their personal gain and vanity. That is not the description of a saved Christian.

Hebrews 10:38-39
38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

Same type of person described here in Hebrews 10 as in the whole chapter of 2 peter 2.

No one will Go to hell because we told them.. Abide in Christ.. confess your sin turn back to him.. Abide in him, remain in him, follow his instruction, heed his warnings, He is Lord yield to his Word if they are lost it won't be because of what we told them.

Yes. I agree with you that a person can't say one prayer and expect that is it, they are saved. Although, when I was 12 or 13 I was one of those people that thought that. I didn't know there was more to it than that. When I was child I thought as a child. But as I grew up I thought differently.

Your last sentence has been my point this whole time. We are saved by His Grace through faith, not of works.

If we are not saved by our works what are we saved by?
His works are what we are saved by.
We have faith that His works are enough. We don't have to add to His works in order for us to be saved. He already did more than enough for that.

We abide in Him, like you were saying earlier. Our only striving is that we enter His Rest. That is a little funny if you think about it. If you work at all it is only to rest in the Lords finished works for you.

We are saved by faith.

But if you think you can lose your salvation then you have no faith.

Or rather you have faith that you can't ever be saved in the present. Your faith is in salvation that happens in the future. Which is no salvation. The future can be a very slippery slope. God is not iffy, wishy washy, biting His fingernails hoping you make the right decision this time.

Salvation is for us, right now. If you can lose it, it was never salvation. It was just help to make it through some given situation that happened in the past.
