Good morning Jasslinn, After reading again what I shared with you here, realised that I said the part about fasting better than I did in my study, and after copying it there, thought it may be helpful to post the whole paragraph here, as it deals with the question.
There is a motion of sin in us:
"A double minded man is unstable in all His ways."
"This kind does not come out but by prayer and fasting." The disciples did not have power over the divided spirit in a child, as they did not have victory in their own lives. Jesus told us to follow Him; neither could His disciples follow Him in His passion, until empowered by the Spirit as Jesus was when He was led by the Spirit in the wilderness to overcome the evil one. Jesus dealt with our sin nature, and calls us to follow Him "Daily pick up your cross and follow Me." The fast to put away our divided spirit in Isaiah 58, doesn't mention not eating, but to share your food with the hungry, and overcoming being controlled by desires and not speaking our own words; getting past our understanding to Walk in the Spirit: to return to our first Love, when our heart finds delight in God in an inner journey, we will be an outward witness of His Love as well but don't look to be the outward witness rather enter His rest. From a place of rest in God we learn to Love as He Loves, we are all slow learners. To stand alone, cough up to God where nothing else is real in sight of reality in God. The truth sets us free from our illusion of fulfilment in deceitful desires of the flesh, to find reality in God. Mystical theology is a longing for God, to get past distractions of this life that left us in want: we will not be satisfied until we find our rest in God. "Now is the accepted time of renewal." Facing that we are not for real apart from God, our search for truth is elusive and ongoing. No limits can be set on the Journey by a sense of satisfaction of being at home with God. Life in this world is a dream that wakes us up when we lose our life after the Flesh: when we suffer disappointment. Jesus made it possible for us to lose our life of deceitful desires, by the influence of His Spirit. Trouble wakes us up, we find ourselves alone in deep darkness, unprepared to suffer the journey alone with Him and tempted to go back to sleep in the old dream. If we don't know how to interpret we won't enjoy the wonder. What we learn in the waiting between dreams, is more important than what we are waiting for; having left slavery in addiction, to journey through the chaos of wilderness and change by influence of God. To forget what is behind, that we may be purified for spiritual awakening. With renewed strength to get past desires of the flesh that we may enter into His rest. Waiting on the Lord we learn of Him and find sustenance at His table, waking up to see where we stop short of being led by His Spirit in the mystery of God.
