Only the body lies asleep in the grave. They cannot hear you because they are with the Lord and have better things to do.
For the cause of Christ

No, not what the scripture says...
1Co 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ
all shall be made alive.
1Co 15:23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ's at His coming.
The body of the saints is not what is resurrected...
1Co 15:35 But someone will say, "How are the dead raised up? And with what body do they come?"
1Co 15:36 Foolish one, what you sow is not made alive unless it dies.
1Co 15:37 And what you sow, you do not sow that body that shall be, but mere grain—perhaps wheat or some other grain.
1Co 15:38 But God gives it a body as He pleases, and to each seed its own body.
What makes you you, is not your body. What make you the individual you are is what is made alive again. Paul shows here that the body that is buried is not what is resurrected. God gives you a body. What is made alive again is what makes you an individual. The idea of the immortal soul is 6000 years old...
Gen 3:4 Then the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die.
And it is not the doctrine of God. Here is what God says about man...
Gen 3:19 In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken;
For dust you are, And to dust you shall return."
Notice that God does not say your body is dust but you have an immortal soul? He says what makes you the individual you are ceases at death...
Ecc 9:5 For the living know that they will die; But the dead know nothing, And they have no more reward, For the memory of them is forgotten.
Ecc 9:10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.
Psa 115:17 The dead do not praise the LORD, Nor any who go down into silence.
Our hope is the resurrection from the dead...
Act 17:30 Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent,
Act 17:31 because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead."
Act 17:32 And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked, while others said, "We will hear you again on this matter."
Php 3:11 if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.
Rev 20:5 But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
