The Pharisees had their own developed law that had been based on the Torah. It appears first as the 'Mishnah', Jesus referring to it as 'the tradition of the elders'. But it was a clearly defined set of rules that were debated by recourse to various authorities and rabbis. I don't think 'Pharisees' is the right label.

Have you read some of the debates? Your definition describes some of those people to a tee! Own developed law that seems to have been formulated independently of the bible, reinterpretation of scripture according to favourite preachers, pastors and yes - also rabbis - even new veins of logic that do not subscribe to traditional logic, in order that polar-opposite views might still be held tightly with equal levels of zealous enthusiasm.

'Bible Battle Forum' wasn't my label. I only shortened it.
Now you've said that then, perhaps, the original prefix of 'Pharisees' may well be the right label. I submit to your superior knowledge of the debaters

When I approached a new area of study to come to grips with what the Bible had to say on a matter, He always used to say to me that I had to lay aside all that I believed and to start again from nothing to build the foundation from the ground, allowing the simple interpretation of passages to guide the way.
It was amazing how the simple very quickly became deeper than I could imagine.
Unfortunately, we don't teach new believers to leave *everything* aside when they convert - we try to add truth to their securely attached baggage and the resulting belief structure is horrible.
