I've got some problems with charities. Please don't be offended here; some of the content may be harsh. I just want to discuss this with someone.

Historically, population has fluctuated with food supply. In times of plenty, we decided to breed because there was enough food to support offspring. Population increase then shrank food supply per person. Famine results and many people die. As a result, the food to person ration increases, and people breed again. The cycle continued on...

...Until we decided to intervene with charity.

Charity keeps people alive who theoretically should die. These people who are subsidised/supported then reproduce and create more people in the same dire situation as themselves. The need for charity then grows as more hungry mouths are produced. Our refusal to let natural population controls take effect means that we have been supporting people who can not support themselves for decades. This will go on indefinitely.

The world could solve the hunger/poverty crisis within a generation if we really wanted to, through a huge sterilisation program. This will never happen though.

The question I am asking is this. Are the world's poor put there by God as a test for us? To see what Christians will do with them? Jesus said to his disciples that the poor will always be with them... but technically there doesn't need to be any poor people.

I only give to charities from now on that specifically try to convert people to Christianity. I think that is the only useful form of charity. Feeding and clothing people only to then have them go to hell is a futile waste of money in my opinion. I'd rather have a starving person die as a starving Christian than have them live a long life as a healthy happy atheist and then suffer eternal torment.

I'm disillusioned with charities and I'm reluctant to give to them, because they waste money. I think the efforts of Christian charities should change, from keeping people alive, to making sure they get to heaven.

Any thoughts?

hmmmm , it is a bit sock the way you put all this . if people would not help me in my teen years , i would be dead by now . wont bother to expalin the situation I think its just so easy to talk about this topic when you personaly never been in such situation . yes , true some people do waste money that are giving to them to the wrong direction , but if you have money and still not willing to make diffrence when you have opportunity then it is a diffrent story .

its just empty words if you speak of salvation but refuse to feed physically those who are starving. when you visit the fatherless and the widows, you can't help but want to ensure their physical well being not just their spiritual welfare. How can you tell someone that you love them yet watch them starve when you have the means to share with them?

James 1:27
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

1 Timothy 1:5
Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

true !!! its like on words u say i love you , but all ur action say out loud i hate you .....

Because I'm thinking long term..

Helping someone short term will have bad consequences, like the birth of more needy people.

Long term, their passing, while tragic, will prevent the perpetuation of further tragedy.

well I'm think of what God tells us to do.

you don't just help them short term, that is the problem with your concept of charity.

Charity is not just giving them short term material goods but loving them enough that you help them learn of God and their eternal salvation.

"the birth of more needy people"? you are playing God and justifying death and allowing people to die because you believe a lie about the future and the hearts of the people who are truly in need.

If a person is able to work they should work for it says in the Bible that if a person does not work neither shall they eat,
but those who are truly in need we are obligated by God to help.

you have to make a distinction between those truly desistute and those who are just lazy and misusing the system.

2 Thessalonians 3:10
For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

you don't help people short term you introduce them to the Gospel of Christ and lead them to accepting Him as Lord and Savior and they will not be needy people but become transformed by His Holy Spirit into the people God created them to be. where would the tragedy be in that? sometimes before people can listen they have to not be starving and cold and worried that their children will die from lack of basic goods and have work they can do to the betterment of the community.

long term, short term the goal should be the same: glory to the name of God by showing His love and mercy to all.

Im hungry.......

huh? are you serious?
that's the eugenics mantra.
keep your idea in mind if something happens and you lose everything.
then start deciding between which of your children is best suited to live.
pick the fittest...that's what the eugenics guys do.
closer to the truth, the state will decide for you, if you agree to this kind of thinking.
horrible.

love thy neighbour...unless he's too needy?

its never been that there's not enough to go around, or that nations can not feed themselves given the help to be lifted out of poverty.
its that psychopaths in power long ago decided the losers have to go. the useless eaters.
Lenin loved it.

I really dont understand your way of thinking for real sharp . I am sorry judging but what kind of christian are you if you dont mind to stay away from such thing as helping your neighbour .for really never say never what if something like that will happent to you and you will have need in things ?? and on your way you will meet someone who will think the way you do now .... you will get lost I promise you ! if your words depart from your actions , then I dont think its a good thing at all .

sharp prefer to stay away of helping others ..... sorry had to corrcet myself , since i made a typo

But who are we to decide this is right? Sounds a bit like playing God.
Also the strong and rich and healthy dictate who lives, who eats and who dies? Is that really a biblical standard? You can claim disillusionment with charities all you want, fact is the bible makes it clear part of the churches responsibility is to feed the hungry, help the homeless, supply for the needy. Not to determine for ourselves who is worthy and who isn't. Its quite an athiestic mentality you have. Only the strong survive, Survival of the fittest.

Sharp,

it's great you've even got to think about the 7,000,000,000 other people in the world. It's more than I could get my head around. And either way it seems like throwing money down a very big hole.

Still, I think it's really about what God is telling a person to do.

I'm full on to make sure I have a real heart for the 700 I'm going to meet. And to date I'm not fully happy with the love I have for the seven I meet in a week.

(Lord, give us your love for one and all)

Sharp, one can rationalise so many things, but when one does this they seek that which is the world.
Keep in mind always what Jesus said, " what ever you do to the least of my brothers, that you do unto me."

God bless :)

I just think prevention is better than cure.

I take all of your points that God has told us to feed the hungry.

But shouldn't we be thinking of more than just this? More than just shovelling food into their mouths then sending them off to breed?

We should give people in dire poverty food on the condition of their sterilisation. Poverty would be wiped out in a generation.

True compassion doesn't need to look pretty. It just needs to work.

how it will work if you wont show comaption ??? you know Gods ways are for sure not ours ! I asuume you always were standing firm on your feet and never ask for help from a friend or just simply to have someones shoulder on which you can relay on .... guess you never had sush things in your life , right ??

Luke 6:35
(35) But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
Matthew 5:45
(45) That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

We will never know what good giving will do until we get to heaven we may never see its results some people may not go to church to hear a sermon but our life is to be a sermon to others

still trying to play God?

who gives life to babies? Men or GOD?

you can't have food unless you let us make it so you can't have babies?

That is not Biblical or Christian. It is worst then abortion. It sounds like a plan to start genocide of anyone the people with power and money consider unworthy.

Don't you realize how easy it is for bad people to destroy the livelihood of millions?

Don't you realize how easy it would be for a natural disaster to temporary set people in a homeless and jobless state?

would you force those people to be sterilized before you helped them recover?

where are you getting your ideas? because it is not from the Bible.

let's start with your family.
this is a globe after all.
sterilize your daughters/sisters/wife first.

set an example.

if you don't have grandchildren, that'd be fewer resources your family uses.

another idea is to open up an abortion clinic: you'll have lots of poor teenaged customers.
i know abortion is gruesome, but: "True compassion doesn't need to look pretty. It just needs to work"

we all went to judge the way he lives and thinks what deals with charity .... in russian lang it means to do good ..... I think perosn need to feel it with his hearts what he does wrong or write . I do think its not right when there is seperation between poor and rich espeacially when it deals with christianity. i am sure sharp is not the only one who thinks and act this way . its just if you have opportunity to do good and you dont , well .... I just feel sorry for you . Gods ways not our ways like i said before .... you dont even know how much even little help of yours may change someones life for 100 % ....
