Chick Tracts — Powerful Tools for Witnessing

I’ve found that Chick Publications (Chick.com) offers some excellent resources for sharing the gospel — especially their small cartoon tracts that explain biblical truth in a simple, direct way.

They don’t replace personal witness, but they’re an effective door opener. You can leave one with a meal tip, include it with a letter, or hand one out in conversation — and the message continues to speak long after you’ve walked away.

The goal isn’t debate, but planting the seed of the gospel:

“So shall My word be that goeth forth out of My mouth: it shall not return unto Me void.” (Isaiah 55:11 KJV)​

Many Chick tracts clearly present salvation by grace through faith in Christ alone — no rituals, no religion, just the finished work of Jesus.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.” (Ephesians 2:8)​

Whether it’s This Was Your Life, Somebody Loves You, or The Choice, each tract points people to repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

I got a kick out of Chick years ago, but they were more noise than signal.
My favorite thoughtful tract was published by Student Discipleship Ministries, Ft. Worth, in 2005.
It was a cross that unfolded from the beginning square "page" that said "The Answer".
The last page encouraged someone who just asked Jesus into their life to:
1. Get baptized and join a local church.
2. Get help from an older believer.
3. Spend daily time in prayer and Bible reading.
4. Share with others what Jesus has done for you.

KJV-onlyism itself isn’t the gospel, and it isn’t automatically a false gospel unless it’s taken to an extreme that replaces faith in Christ with faith in a translation.

1. The Gospel Is About Christ, Not a Version

The gospel is “that Christ died for our sins… was buried, and rose again the third day” (1 Cor 15:1-4).
Anyone who believes that message and trusts in Christ alone for salvation is saved — regardless of which faithful translation they read from.

So, if a person prefers the KJV and believes it best preserves God’s Word, that’s not heresy — it’s conviction.

2. When It Becomes a False Gospel

It crosses the line when someone claims,

“You can’t be saved unless you read or believe the King James Version.”​

That turns a preference into a requirement for salvation, which is indeed a false gospel, because it adds a human condition to grace.​

“If righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.” (Gal 2:21)​

3. The Balanced View

The King James Version is a trustworthy and beautiful translation that God has used for centuries — but Christ alone saves, not English phrasing.

“Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Rom 10:17)​

Brother, the gospel is salvation through Christ, not a translation.​

Loving the KJV doesn’t make someone a false teacher; saying it’s the only way to be saved would.​

I use it because it’s faithful and powerful, but the power is in the message, not the medium. (Romans 10:17)​

Jack Chick passed away in 2016. He was an advocate of KJVO. David W. Daniels is a hardcore KJVO. If people read the tracts and get saved because of them I'm all for it. However, people need to realize if they purchase Chick tracts they're supporting a KJVO ministry. If a person wants to support a KJVO ministry that's their right and privilege.

I didn't know Jack Chick passed away, that is too bad. As far as I know only Independant Fundamental Baptists are King James Version Only churches, all other have gone to watered down corrupted versions.

I've seen some use the NASB? Strange, the KJV (ER) Easy Read never seems an option? I've never seen it in any church.

The only reason I even found out about it — I think back in 2019 — was by complete accident. I stumbled across a copy at a Barnes & Noble, of all places, which is hardly a Christian bookstore. Ironically, Mardel’s, a Christian store, didn’t even carry it.

Haven't heard that guy's name in a long time. Tracts don't work. People will ask you about your faith when you've earned the right to share it with them. They will want what you have.

I don't know about this tract, 'The greatest story ever told'.
I heard about 'The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit'. I've also heard 'The Spirit, the Water, and the Blood'
I've never heard it phrased as 'The Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost'. I don't even think that's in the KJV.

I find their tracts in the bathroom stalls at work and when I shop at local retailers.

I chuckle at the thought of someone giving their testimony to include they'd found Jesus while on a toilet in Target.

I hand them out in person... While going through the drive through or walking in the store... Sometimes I leave there here and there seeding and othertimes I just hand them. Most people accept free things. I just say this is for you they take it.

I hand them out in person — sometimes through the drive-through, other times while walking through a store. At times I leave them behind to plant a seed; other times I give them directly. Most people gladly accept free things. I simply say, “This is for you,” and they take it.

I'm living out personal evangelism in a humble, approachable way. What I'm describing is very much in the spirit of “sowing seeds,” like the parable of the sower (Matthew 13:3-9). Each tract you hand out, whether someone reads it right away or months later, carries a witness that can take root in God’s timing.

“The Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost”
— does come from the King James Version, specifically 1 John 5:7,

1 John 5:7 in the KJV teaching about the Trinity isn’t wrong.
The same truth — Father, Son (Word), and Holy Spirit being one — is taught plainly in other places:

• Matthew 28:19 — “baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.”
• John 1:1 — “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

Since most of the early Church and many modern scholars believe the author of the Gospel of John and the letters of John (1–3 John) are the same person. Make sense also given verse John 1:1


So Chick tracts sometimes use the KJV phrasing because their ministry is rooted in a King James tradition. That’s why it says “the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost.”

In Short.

• Yes, that exact wording is in the KJV (1 John 5:7).
• The doctrine it expresses (the unity of Father, Son, and Spirit) is still biblically sound and affirmed throughout Scripture.
