Christ or Medicine ???

While I don't think medication is a cure all or is always the best option there are some things that will not go away without it, and it doesn't just have to be pharmaceutics, there are things like acupuncture that can be helpful, it's not like by taking medication you are denying God, He can work through doctors.

I believe that if we think we are smart for coming up with medicine to help up,that is not right.Its missing the point ! God is our Medicine or WHY DID HE DIE ON THE CROSS.He died on the cross to take our sickness and all other humanly evil dieseases from us with his blood that was shed for us. How do you think Jesus Christ would feel if people just used this side road that only leads to evil,instead of complete faith in him for EVERYTHING.

People,i believe you all wonder why you dont see more divine miracles in everyday life. Its because Medicine is taking that place in peoples minds instead of Christ the healer ! And thats just what Saten wants.

I believe every man,woman and child born on this earth believes theres somthing more than what we see but they are looking in the wrong direction because somthings put there for them to look at.It ( the system ) says,"we're the way,we will heal,save and deliever you.We'll keep you alive."But thats not the way it is.This knowledge i know in the light of my salvation to be from below and sensual,devilish. ( james 3:15 ) talks about it.The devil is a lier and the father of lies. ( john 8:44 ).

Jesus Christ is Lord and Saviour of spirit,soul and body and by his stripes believers are and were healed.Thats the truth.

The word of God says to trust in Him. It says lean not on your own understanding. It says to have faith for He is faithful. And it says that those who love Him obey Him. Knowing that the word of God says these things how can we say "well I only go to the doctor if its something serious." If we can truely trust in Him for the little things then how much more for the bigger things? Yes God gave us a mind, but only so that we would deny it and seek after Him for His wisdom and understanding. God clearly says that our ways are not His ways and our thoughts are not His thoughts. How then can we say that God wants us to use you're intellect to understand things when He says that mans wisdom is foolishness and that no man can understand the thingsof God except for the spirt of christ in Him. It is not testing God to have faith in Him. He allowed you to become sick, how much more can He take it away! Look at the story of king Asa who served the lord for 40 years. One day he got a sore on his foot, he sought physicians and the word says that because he sought not only the lord but physicians as well, the lord allowed the sore to consume his whole body and he died. Scripture says that He is the Great Physician, so why not let Him be? Finally, look in Scripture and you will only find one place that talks about what to do when you are sick. It says that the one who is sick should call upon theelders of the church and they should pray the prayer of faith by the laying on of hands and anoint them with oil and they will be healed. I would much rather obey thre word rather than what I might think or.feel is right and put my full trust in the perfect God. Rather then fallible men. Please do not just take my word for it, but go to the word and see if the thing that I am saying line up. Let God be your Teacher. If anyone would like references for these Scriptures please let me know. I wanted to put them in but it was hard to do on my phone.

Not to intrude but I'm at present in medical school studying to be a doctor and I feel this is one of God's greatest calling to man!
To be able to save lives and help people is a wonderful thing.... So medicines are not at all against God's will.... If only we learn to trust that through them He will heal us!

I know what most people think. I thought this way once too. In America we are all raised thinking this way, but as a sister in the lord I want to urge you to go to the word with a humble and teachable attitude....not claiming to know anything but only wanting God to be found true. I will do the same, because the word says that where there is disagreement that too He will make clear to us. As long as we are allowing Him to be our Teacher He will teach us.

I always go to God first, 9 times out of 10 He heals me....all the other times, if He dont heal me I go Docs.....Im not stupid to think medicine dont have its place.

You can never just Not pray for relief,
And you can never just Not take medication.

By the way, medication isn't exactly unnatural. People don't just make stuff out of thin air. Food isn't made out of thin air. Nothing is. Technically speaking, the only thing that makes medicine "unnatural" is the fact that you can mix so many things into it to make it effective, even though you can't grow or make all of these things in one pop. You have to manually do it.

Let me tell you something. I'm actually sick. I have some problems with my reproductive system, and I Have to take medicine almost every day and while I'm taking it, it causes me to become infertile. Sometimes the medicine works wonders, sometimes I still may over dose on pain medication to help out with my ailments (one of the main reasons why I have to take it + I have high blood pressure due to family genetics, if I even Slightly over dose on strong pain medication, I can go under cardiac arrest.)
Honestly all together, it's not So much of a problem to me, and it doesn't mean that I'm 100% infertile because my mother had these same problems yet she could still have kids (even though she's completely infertile now.)
I also believe that once I stop taking the medication, I probably shouldn't have more than two kids. Most likely I Could, but it's probably not recommended. I was my mother's last and third child, and ever since she had me, her problems that were similar to mine got worse. She's actually still sick because of it (kind of a mystery diagnosis situation), and needs estrogen.

That's just something I'd like to share. Also, I plan on being an Internal Medicine Physician after my 8 years of college (..that I'll start eventually..) I feel that being a doctor and helping others is a great way of life, and that we Shouldn't just ignore medicine. It exists for a reason, mainly a good one, just like we do.

It depends on what kind of "medicine" you are talking about...

If it is the "God-produced" kind that is found [naturally] in herbs, vegetables, etc. - "then, it is natural"...

If it is the "man-produced" kind that is found [un-naturally] in pharmaceutical drugs - "then, it is un-natural"...

People don't just make stuff out of thin air.

(Assuming that this remark is pointing to pharmaceutical drugs...)

They come from the "waste-product 'sludge' of the oil-distillation process"...

After everything considered useful has been removed from crude oil - gasoline, jet fuel, what-is-used-to-make-plastic, etc. - what is left-over is the source material building blocks of pharmaceutical drugs.

It is true. Do the research.

(I am not saying that "modern medicine" does not "have its place" - I just believe that it is "prudent" to understand as much as possible about the "true nature" of it...)

Both? i mean God made us with thinking minds to be able to come up with this kind of medicine. and i REALLY don't think he wants us to not take it. But relying on him and praying is also important. God can heal anything he wants when and where. But I don't think he ment for us to ignore modern medicine.

First - I know having faith to God is the first healing, spiritual sickness cannot be cure by just drinking medicine .
Second - God give us medicine for purpose it is to cure us, we just need to trust the way of Our Lord .

If medieine and doctors are God's way of healing today or if he uses doctors,then Hebrew 13 v 8 "jesus Christ the same yesterday,today,and forever " and Malachi 3 V 6 which is "i am the lord and i change not ",and James 1 V 7 are un true.But 2 Chron 16 V 12,Asa sought not to the Lord but to the physicians.The Lord was not working throught the physicians.That was obivious or he would of got healed.For it is written,"i am the Lord that healeth thee ".Not im the Lord who tries to heal thee and fails mostly,but "i am the Lord that healeth thee ". Disease and sickness are the physical consequences of sin and have been dethroned ( Col 2 v 15 ),therefore health and healing belong to us.They're our possession.Its yours and mine and we can walk in it.

It saddens me so much and the Lord when people only put 90% trust in the Lord.They miss out on so much that is promised to us by the Lord ! and its
that 10% that is the most important it really is ! That 10% can change the World.Actually it already has changed the world.Bless those who have 100% faith and trust in him for everything.

The covenant has not changed in 2000 years.tradition would say that our protection from sickness and diease has improved because the doctors have become more knowledgeable and surical techniques have improved.If this is so,that means Christ work wasnt finished on the Cross.because earlier,when medical techniques wernt so good they didnt get so many people healed.Now they say the atoning work must have got better.Thats not true,for that work was finished then,Gods healing power was just as strong then as it is now.

I agree with you Peter1 thats why I always go to God first, no matter how ill I am, but on the odd occasional He doesnt heal me its usually ilness that MAKES me rest like glandular fever (I think its called mono in the US?) God often tells me to rest, not something Im good at and with the lifestyle I have the world often gets in the way....so He MAKES me lie down in green pastures. If I did as I was told on this then I guess all those things He didnt heal me of more than likely wouldnt have occurred in the first place. As you quite rightly say disease and sickness are the physical consequences of sin....I can certainly see that in my own life. Oh how I wish I was perfect!

I have walked in this understanding for many years. Jesus did a COMPLETED Job on the cross. When Adam and Eve sinned they brought sickness and disease into the equation. Jesus took the full punishment, by His stripes WE ARE HEALED and He took those wounds IN THE FLESH. He didnt do it for nothing

That's a verse where Paul, the person generally believed to be the book's writer, is telling Timothy, a young pastor, to change his diet a little to alleviate sickness. In essence, he's telling Timothy to take "medicine," in the form of wine.

Let's also keep in mind that Luke, writer of the Gospel of Luke and Acts, was also Paul's personal physician.

God has no problem with us using medicine or going to the doctor. So maybe going to the doctor or taking a pill for the headache creates one less opportunity for God to perform a miracle. That's hardly lack of faith.

God put medicine on the Earth to help people. I don't disagree with taking it at all. With that said... I personally have not taken so much as an aspirin in the last 10 or so years. The reason has nothing to do with God. I was not deep into the faith when I made this decision. I was about 11 years old, and my family didnt go to church. I stopped taking medication because I didn't want my immune system to be dependant on it. Has it worked? I have no idea. I haven't caught any of the sicknesses when they go around town in the last ten years. I havent had anything worse than a cold. Last week my whole house (4 people) caught the flu except me. All I got was an upset stomach while everyone else didn't even feel good enough to get out of bed. If I ever really need medicine, I will take it. It will have to be something major, though. I've cut my let to the bone on a rusty screw, rolled a truck, and had a head on collision with a van. I didn't take anything for any of those. I had no injuries or soreness from the wrecks. I believe I have made it through these things because God has huge plans for my life. I do believe He heals. I believe He has been healing me and protecting me for my entire life, even though i spent much of my ignoring Him. I believe God heals all sickness, but there is nothing wrong with medicine. I do not believe that using medicine is a lack of faith. On the contrary, I believe that not using medicine in serious situations is almost like testing God.

I agree to not Put God to the Test as it is written.but in saying that,i believe there is no need to put him to the test,simply because,those who fully trust in him for everything,would already be under the Lords watch and care,therefore it would not be like a test to God,but a Lord that changes not and never ends his love and health in us.To grasp that is very simple i believe,one can either believe for everything through him,or partly put your trust in medicine for that so called cure or happiness maker,but really in the longrun,that doesnt help at all.Once your at that place with god of the full trust and health through him,you never want to return to those somewhat,useless drugs and made up reliefs,because they are not lasting or eternal like our one True God who supplies all our needs.

Yes, the word does say that, but you can not go on to assume that means doctors and medicine are ok as well. God gave us wine to ease our pain, but He is the one who heals it. The other verses that I referenced and Peter1 referenced some as well make it clear that God is the great Physician and He is our Healer, no man. Medicine is something that was brought about by education and the minds of men that in scripture God clearly tells us to deny. Not everything that appears to be good is God given! Scripture says that satan masquerades as an angel of light and his followers as teachers of righteousness. They are going to look good and right and godly, but God says that they are evil. Indeed I have heard other people twist the scripture to their own thinking and say that people were told to put mud on their eyes or rub oil on themselves and that was medicine. It wasn't! their obedience to God is what healed them. I believe that we should not test God. I also believe that when God says Trust in Him that we should do it in every way. Wake up! Trust in Him in all things! I say this not only to you but to everyone including myself, because I know that I have only scratched the surface of what Faith in God truly is. Knowing what I have attained I pray that I will continue to trust in Him for all my needs, such as food, clothing, and protection as the word says.
