There is no such thing as "exactly" how many. Too many variables are involved. Here is a partial quote about one perp who was shot and killed with "center mass shots"...

I saw a dash cam video of a LEO who got in a scuffle with a perp who shot him once with a .22 pistol, and the LEO pulled his pistol, and shot the perp 3 or 4 times, center mass. The perp went down, and the cop called for backup, then staggered, sat down, and died. He had been shot through the heart with a .22, and the perp, shot multiple times with either a 9mm or .40, survived.

I read a story about a perp on PCP who was standing in the middle of an intersection who was shot over 30 times with 9mm's and took multiple hits with 00 buckshot from 12 ga pumpguns. He had been shot in the face and blinded, but was still standing in the middle of the street, trying to reload his pistol by "feel" when a cop came up behind him and butt-stroked him with his pump shotgun.... the perp fell down, and finally died.

so, exactly how many does it take? It takes as many as it takes.....

This is beyond true. Not just speaking from personal experience with members of the force being in the family, but you see it time and again in various forms of media as there is so much corruption within the Service itself.

The media sensationalizes everything. This is the same media whose breathtaking reporting consists of President Trump ""getting TWO scoops of ice cream while everyone else gets one". Any type of reporting covering thats and one's diet coke intake shows they have too much of an agenda, and can't be seen as a respected source.

that's certainly true

while more and more FBI shenanigans are being revealed, the non news channels have defaulted to the Comey firing and Comey saying (remember Comey has been caught lying more than once) that Trump told him to back off of the Flynn investigation

it seems no matter how rotten the apple is, absolutely nothing will sway some from the lies of CNN and the like

There's a reason why I used 'various forms of media'. Examining the concept of the "same media" is a very generalized term you've employed and it's not all one and same thing. I'm not interested in a one source that reports on how many scoops the president inhales. To denounce all forms of media as non credible is a generalized sweep that misses so much in understanding the claim at hand.

Any type of reporting covering thats and one's diet coke intake shows they have too much of an agenda, and can't be seen as a respected source.

The same precise claim could be made about the posts in this thread alone, or anyone with any take on an issue. That's why when I speak from personal experience as well as wide and varied sources of information, it's much more accessible to claim a reliable insight to the issue.

You never hear about the cops helping out the elderly, or playing catch football with kids in the park, or saving an animal. Why is that? It doesn't sell stories. But a teenager getting killed because he thought he was being cool waving a BB gun at police? You bet they'll squeeze the juice out of that, especially if they can make it a race issue.

That was exactly my point. You're the one who employed the term "the media" as all under one umbrella which needed addressing. Additionally, understanding of the issue and my stance on it goes far and beyond a few major American tv networks. If you visit libraries, read journals, archives, articles and much more wider sources than a few random US channels classified in tunnel vision as the only media you're aware of and retrieve your 'news' from, you'll have a much better grasp at comprehending the issue at hand and all dimensions involved.

Maybe I should have put the word "mainstream" in front of media, then. If you do enough digging, you'll see that majority of police officers do what they are supposed to do. Don't let 2 bad apples cloud the rest of the 98 in the tree.

Fortunately, as stated at the outset, my 'digging' doesn't bother with the few American channels that you listed off. There's nothing about reality that needs to influence bias against the facts of profound corruption in the police force today.

A few bad apples don't make the entire police force corrupt.

The "bad apple" theory goes a long way in social media. What I used to tell my friends was to look around their workplace and take note of their "bad apples", then picture them as a police force. The percentage is about the same. I've known some bad cops, but far more good cops. Most feel they are helping and are eager to help those in need of whatever. Then there are the "selfies" who joined for alternative reasons. The old saying "everybody has their ten percent" really does apply here. God Bless.

JSR, first of all, he was NOT a teenager. He was a 30-something year old man. And he wasn't trying to look cool at all. He had a history of getting in trouble, probably had mental problems to boot. He had ample time to put down the gun but refused. Whether he was scared to, or whether he wanted suicide by cop, is unknown..
