How should we, as Christians, respond to this tragedy in Connecticut?

In light of reading the article that Jimmy linked, I will not be surprised if they found that something traumatic happened to Adam when he was a child. With the exception of chemical imbalances, and those who are born socially awkward, such as autism, you do not see this type of withdraw. And even among those born socially challenged, they tend not to try and destroy others. But I think this is not his problem, although he may have some tendencies. But I'm thinking of maybe more the lines of possible brain injury, or maybe even unknown abuse. Injuries can cause one to do things they would never do. It can even change someone's personality. And as for abuse, if it festers to long, it becomes resentment and bitterness. And sometimes leads to paranoia, which may have trigger his fear around people. But then, this is all guessing.

SO what your saying... is here must be some CAUSE or EXCUSE... because it is illogical to simply call it what it was A PURPOSEFULLY PERPETRATED EVIL????

Putting guns in the good guys hands is not a solution. I am a teacher. I talk to teachers all the time. It doesn't matter if guns are made available for all to carry. Most teachers are still not going to be packing on the job.

If I was allowed to (which of course to conceal carry on public school ground is a serious no no) I would be willing, and of course okay with that. Depending upon who had the guns of course. You would have to have a just about squeaky clean background...

Having said that, I haven't seen any argument that legitimizes abortion. The vast majority of abortion cases are absolutely a murder case.
Come now, jimmy. I KNOW I've posted my story in threads where you were active. I certainly hope you either skipped over my posts or have forgotten. Because surely you would realize cases like mine (which are actually not uncommon) are completely legitimate cases for abortion.

Unless you are re-defining words, like that other chick did, and you think that "abortion" only means "abortions that I disagree with" whereas the removal of a zygote, embryo, or fetus before it has reached its full term for a reason that you can accept as valid is something other than an abortion.

Israel is the most 'terrorized' nation on earth.
Do you want to know why there are not instances of terrorists entering schools in that country and shooting the place up?
Because each class room has a weapon at the teacher's disposal.
In other words they have something more than their body to shield the children in their care.
Can we see an alternative motive in leaving the schools in the U.S. open for becoming locked down butchering grounds?

Alrighty DIVA...YOU are out of line. While no person is forcing YOU to accept that an "ABORTION" is the intentional removal of an unborn baby from the WOMB. Asserting "the OTHER CHICK" which would be ME did redefine or holds the above postition is only going to get you involved in a smackdown. I will not tolerate you or anyone else misrepresenting me or my convictions. Funny you mention this new interpretation of "abortion" yourself because I seem to recall... you previously condoned using birthcontrol... and many forms of birthcontrol are... indeed abortafacents. It seems to me, what is really going on here is that the GRUNGEDIVA way is superior... even tho it appears YOUR situational ethics lack continuity.l

A call to action: put more guns into the hands of law abiding citizens so they can properly defend themselves as is their human and Constitutional right.
They do in Israel and they do not have mass murders this is a small key to a impossible fix to this problem. The only absolute is the return of Jesus to set His Kingdom in omnipotence, so Maranatha Come Lord Jesus is again the increasing cry of our spirit from the Holy Spirit, Come Lord Jesus to us your people your bride and pour out your all powerful spirit in the Latter Rain upon us to rescue and save souls from death hell... your wrath.

The locked down, totally helpless schools are a recipe for mass killings.
Only a mad man or a bunch of people with power,-(who want more), would legislate a potential killing field like this.

Excellent post, djness. Legislative bandaids just slow the flow. They don't stop the arterial bleed.

I'm pro-life from conception to the grave, and thereafter. I can't support man-made laws re: the death penalty, as some permit this in cases where only circumstantial evidence has been presented. That's not scriptural.

Nobody is 'packing'.
The weapons are in a locked safe.
No one knows the code except the teacher of that class and the principals.
Infact, there could be a thumbprint code so only those individuals can access it.
With firearms training to get a teaching certificate, no more innocent children need be slaughtered.
The only time a person who hates guns wishes they had one is when someone else is pointing one at them.
"Oh", you say, "there wouldn't be time to react."
Even if not in the first class, as soon as the shooting was heard, other teachers and principals could react.
See the story of the school shooting in Blacksburg Mississippi, and who stopped that and how.
(It was an assistant principal who had a gun in his car. He saved the lives of countless students.)
Also see the church shooting in Colorado. A security guard(female), saved the lives of many worshiping christians. - (She interdicted the madman before he could enter the sanctuary.)

I find myself regretting having posted here. Seems distasteful to me now. I can't delete my post, but I can sincerely apologize for any insensitivity or disrespect I may have shown in this time of national mourning. So many thoughts are going through my heart and mind. Trying to sort them out.

... AND I will DEMAND my child be assigned to the class with the teacher with the gun.

It's interesting, there was a news story today of a situation that happened 20 years ago at a local school. A police officer happened to be at a DARE function for the school. While he was there a gun man entered and started shooting at people. The police officer said he had to make a decision. Just as he was about to pull his gun, he stopped. He realized that by shooting at the gun man, he would quite possibly end up shooting a child. Instead, he kept pushing people out of the path of the gun man and ended up taken bullets himself.

I don't know that having guns on campuses is going to stop gun men, but I also don't know that it will cause more problems. I do know that banning guns is not the solution. If anything, it just makes it a hotter commodity on the black market. And violent people will always find away to hurt or kill with violence.

Did I say that he was excused. Or did I say that there maybe more to this story. Everyone has trigger points, even you Barlygurl, that causes them to face great temptations to do things or to lose self control. Drugs make people more desperate, because they :must" have that next fix. Injuries to the brain can destroy essential sections that causes people to lose self control, from everything from bladder to emotions. And emotional scars and wounds, if not dealt with, can fester and grow. That is simply what I'm stating.

In my opinion, the best course of action to prevent future tragedies like the Connecticut shooting is most certainly to abolish the problem: the schools. Students are given a inadequate, propaganda filled education. Worse yet, teachers aren't allowed to carry firearms for their own protection. We will always have assaults on freedom of religion, we will always have mass shootings in gun-free school systems, and we will always have inadequately educated humans in our society as long as we have a government monopoly on the education system. In addition, the public education system also has taken responsibility away from the parents in teaching their children valuable life lessons. Had guns been illegal, the shooter most certainly could have acquired an illegal firearm on the black market (lessons from the Prohibition, and the War on Drugs should be clear enough that making something illegal does not deplete the supply of that object/substance), or he would have used a different weapon, such as a knife, baseball bat, etc.

iinadequate propaganda filled education? i t hink you are the one with the propagada

Really? I've been a student in the education system for most of my life, I ought to know about the quality of the current school system. When I see that 90 % of the kids at the youth group I go to have barely been taught proper reading skills, there is most certainly a problem. The author of my current Social Studies book is a man who advocates forced abortions as population control, and believes that the government should have the right to determine how many children a family may have. That's absolutely wrong. Plus you don't even have the right to worship freely in schools, a right guaranteed in the Constitution.

well first off youre thirteen and im 29...I guarantee I was in the education a lot longer tha you. And where in the constitution does it give you the right to worship freely in school and how is this being denied to you?

What is truth to one person is propaganda to another.
That is why it is paramount to know the truth.
Or else you will be led astray by every wind of doctrine:

Ephesians 4:14 King James Version (KJV):
14 "That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive"

Sound familiar?

David Rockefeller-(Chairman of the Council of Foreign Relations), once stated at a 1976 Tri-lateral commission meeting: "public schools are helpless people yielding themselves to our molding hands."

In his book Memoirs, published in 2002, David Rockefeller, Sr.-(who also founded the tri-lateral commission in 1973); made the following remarks, startling in their very frankness: "For more than a century ideological extremists at either end of the political spectrum have seized upon well-publicized incidents such as my encounter with Castro to attack the Rockefeller family for the inordinate influence they claim we wield over American political and economic institutions. Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as 'internationalists' and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure -- one world, if you will. If that's the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it."

Folks,......slaves are not armed.

1. Pray as God would lead you.

2. Go preach the gospel because there is no substitute for a transformed life through the new birth.

3. This kind of happenstance is going to continue because the whole head is sick (Jer 17:9 Is 1:5).

4. We only hear of the negative instances that happen involving firearms because it is news worthy and it gets people's attention.

5. To consider laws that would have us relinquish firearms is an invitation for trouble and civil unrest like we have never seen.

6. We haven't seen anything yet at home here in the USA and abroad concerning tribulation and don't think for a moment that God is not involved in trying men's hearts in all this.

7. It won't be long before we see Him in the clouds of the air beckoning us to 'Come on up', so keep looking for the mercy of God.
