An anti-medical marijuana group is marketing their cause by linking date rape to pot.

I'm all for legalizing all pot. As long as people are held accountable for their actions when high, it's their decision and I want no part of it. But fighting medical marijuana? Better not give that cancer patient medical marijuana to help prevent them from vomiting blood because someone might potentially find some sort of way to drug that stash!
 
The anti-medical marijuana groups will use any scare tactic possible to push their agenda. If someone has date rape on their mind there are numerous products available (both legal and illicit) that will make their victim less resistant. Alcohol is the most abused substance when it comes to date rape.

That was my first thought. Those debauched enough to consider date rape will find more effective means than a cookie laced with marijuana. Some of them are completely legal and sold over the counter.

i am 75 years old (yesterday lol) i have stage IV prostate cancer and have been prescribed oxycontin and oxycodone. i refused both and use marijuana instead. its non addictive and doesnt mask all pain but its a lot better than likely addiction to an opiate. sometimes its a little more difficult to find in places where there are legal issues but its always around somewhere and it works without a risk of either overdose or addictionl

No offence sir, but marijuana is addictive. THC is actually highly addictive. It increases the amount of dopamine in your brain, dopamine creates pleasure, and pleasure is addictive...

You also build a tolerance to THC do to the way it effects your brain. And it also decreases any natural stimulus of pleasure in the future do to comparison.
 
This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. Marijuana doesn't murder one's inhibitions even to the point of alcohol.

Actually, it's not chemically addictive at all. THC acts in the same way that food/candy/sex/gambling does. One could only become psychologically addicted.. There are no cold sweats involved in quitting Marijuana.

Where did you hear that it was so addictive?

marijuana is not additive. I have smoked it several years ago and never had any problems when I ran out. I have been an a motor cycle accident that has left me in chronic pain and I have to say that all the med's they give me for the pain is the worse thing that could have been done, I would rather smoke pot any day of the week and days that I felt better I would not have smoked. Now I am just a drug addict that wants to quite but the doctors whom are not above God say that this pain is permanent.I have no real idea why I told ever one this, but yes I am in deep need of prayer as well.

Some confusion results from the misunderstanding of the word addiction. Marijuana is just as 'addictive' as heroin. (The psychological addiction of which you speak.) But it is very hard to become physically dependent on it. T_Laurich is correct, by modern psychological terms.
 
Y'all know they're not gonna legalize marijuana 'cuz it competes with the CIA's cocaine market.....sheesh.

you have clearly never sat with a addict who was kicking heroin if you would compare "psychological" addiction to opiate withdrawel

That is physical dependency, which is not addiction. Just because most people use the wrong word to describe dependency withdrawal symptoms does not make me incorrect. I am not comparing the two, I'm trying to teach you something.

well i'm always ready to learn. i have an undergraduate degree in mental heallth and human services and an an associates in substance abuse. i worked on the bowery for 2 years (when it was the worlds skid row) and have seen more addicts than i could possibly count but go ahead, i'm always ready to learn

Sure thing. Marijuana can be psychologically addictive. But it is almost impossible to become physically dependent on it. Heroin is just as psychologically addictive, and there is no real difference between a heroin addict and a marijuana addict in the psychological realm. However, heroin is a terrible opiate that causes all manner of dependency issues that barely exist, if at all, in weed.

I am absolutely not comparing opiate withdrawal to psychological addiction, my whole point is that they are different. Bushido was correct, although rather rude. But I posted because T_Laurich was also correct when he said

I was standing up for T_Laurich because that point was at least mostly accurate. (It may be incorrect to say 'highly', but that's a small point.)
