Their would probably be a lot of problems if 1 person is 18-22. The younger person is at a point of hanging with friends, clubbing and drinking age. The older is ready to settle down and maybe get married.

I think the most i could go is 10 years older 11 years older would be pushing it but it all depends on the situation. Personally I can't stand seeing someone who is in their early twenties or late teens with someone 15-30 years older than them.

I've always preferred older men (like at least 5 years older) but since none have shown up I've since decided I should be less picky about things that may not necessarily be relevant depending on the person. I am thinking about subscribing to the 7 year rule (take the older person's age, cut it in half and add 7 years...that's the youngest they can go) since that window gets bigger the older you get. At this time I COULD date anyone between 23 and 50....maybe that will help...:S

I think it requires a great deal of wariness... on the part of the older man for motives, and especially on the part of the younger girl.

The other way round... dunno, a few years dif & so what. More... dunno, guys are immature so frequently.

I only date older men. I don't get along with men my own age. They're not at a maturity level that I'm compatible with. The first few guys I dated were either my exact age or a year or two older, and the longest relationship I ever had with any of them was 3 months. Then I dated a man 10 years older than me when I was 18, and it lasted for 6 months. After that was another man 10 years older and it lasted over a year and only ended because it became clear our lives were headed in separate directions and marriage wouldn't be a wise option so we peacefully parted ways. After him I dated a guy who was only 2 years older than myself and it was an abusive relationship that only lasted a month. After that I met Rich, who is 15 years older than I am, we've been together 3 years and got engaged last December.

We love each other and support each other and the age gap doesn't even matter. Even our parents have mentioned that other than it being physically noticeable, when you see the two of us together we're clearly a team and it's like we're on the exact same page, not an old guy dating a young girl, just two adults who love, respect, and honor each other. We still get some people who say we're disgusting or that he's a cradle robber, or that I'm making a mistake marrying someone that much older than me, but I know what I like and what I'm attracted to, and I'm very unapologetic about it.

I strongly feel that rather than looking at age, people need to look at the maturity level and go with what they're compatible with. As long as it's someone who is on the same page as you and you know will be able to genuinely love, support, and respect you in the way you should be, age should not matter.

My Dad is trying to convince me that men in the 50-52 age range would the best candidates for me to date (I'm 38).

He said younger guys are most likely to still want to run around and that an older man will be more committed. I told him, "Are you kidding me? The 50-year-olds are the ones claiming to be going through life crises and dumping their wives for 19-year-olds." I say that because I know a lot of women who have been dumped for someone younger and prettier... (Not that it doesn't happen the other way around, of course, but as a woman, I talk to more women about their lives.)

And on the "Christian" dating sites I've been a part of for three years, it's almost worse. Many older "Christian" men seem convinced that it is completely God's will for them to find decades-younger women and completely bypass women in their own age range. My Mom is beautiful and in her 60's but if she were single, I'm pretty sure she'd have a hard time finding someone because the men her age are all looking for women my age. (Actually... I'm getting too "old"... many of them want 25-year-olds.)

Although things like this thoroughly disgust me, I do have to say that it all boils down to what God wants. For some, older may be better... for others, it might be younger. I agree that faith and maturity are the most important things at any age. I work with a guy in his 20's who has one of the key positions in the store and is more responsible than many of the guys I've met who are my age. Likewise, I dated someone 8 years older who had to be taken care of like a 10-year-old child.

I'd like to think that God will open my heart to whoever He might lead me to, and while I'm hoping it will be someone around my age, I just pray that He'll make me willing to go wherever He leads. (But I have to confess, I do beg him that He won't make me marry a 55-year-old.)

Personally, I have never been remotely attracted to a men who could possibly be more than ten years (at the maximum) older than me. But as they say, "one man's taste is another man's poison" and so each to his/her own liking so long as the two are happy together. After all, haven't we been told time and again that "variety is the spice of life"? :D
