Dealing with the idea of Hell

I think if Jesus mentioned hell so much...which he did, then we are obliged to preach it too.Hell is a real danger and a biblical fact and if Jesus did not want to wake people up and make them think,then why did he mention Hell at all?
People today just want to hear what makes them feel good and Christians are so scared of judging or offending someone that the true gospel is no longer being heard and it's only going to get worse.When was the last time you heard a pastor preaching on Hell or even Homosexuality,today it's what the world does -the church does too.

If hell is simply being annihilated, that would be an awesome prospect for the sinning lost.

Lost sinners for the most part hate Christians, so the thought of spending an eternity with them would be awful for them. The alternative is living a life full of debauchery - indulging in every sin their wicked minds can conceive - and at the end of their lives, they don't have to suffer at all for what they've done - they just get snuffed out.

That's no punishment at all - it's more like a reward.

Jesus took upon Himself a punishment He did not deserve. Those who refuse His mercy deserve punishment for rejecting so great a sacrifice.

Annihilation is not punishment enough for doing so.

Let's look at the verses you have quoted above, for a moment, Revelation 21:8, for example.

'But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable,
and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers,
and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part
in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone:
which is the second death.'
(Rev 21:8)

* This refers to 'the lake of fire' and 'the second death', doesn't it? Looking at (Rev 20:10 & 14), we read there, that not only are the devil, the beast and the false prophet cast into the lake of fire, but, 'death' and 'hell' also: so the lake of fire judgement, is something quite separate from 'hell', which is the place where the dead are 'hidden away', which is the true meaning of the word 'hell', (or 'the grave').

'And these shall go away into everlasting punishment:
but the righteous into life eternal.'
(Mat 25:46)

* You highlight the words, 'everlasting punishment', here Ella: but the word 'everlasting' is translated from the Greek word, aionion, which means 'age long'. Also, in verses 31 and 32 we read that verse 46, (the one quoted), relates to the time when our Lord will come and sit on the throne of judgement, judging the nations, it has no relation to hell, or the state of the dead, but is a judgement carried out against the living, at that time.

'And whosoever was not found
written in the book of life
was cast into the lake of fire.'
(Rev 20:15)

* The lake of fire, as we have already seen is a separate entity than that spoken of as 'hell'.

'And the devil that deceived them
was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone,
where the beast and the false prophet [are],
andshall be tormented day and night
for ever and ever.'
(Rev. 20:10)

* This again is 'the lake of fire', and not 'hell': and those being tormented are the devil, the beast and the false prophet. This will take place at the end of the age.

'And shall cast them into the furnace of fire:
there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.'
(Matt. 13:50)

* In verse 49, Ella, we read that this takes place, again, at'the end of the age', and though reference is made to a 'furnace of fire', and may refer to 'the lake of fire', it certainly does not have any reference to 'hell'

Note that I said 90% too, some people on this site are very knowledgeable and wise and are led by love and not self assurance and self righteousness. You.ain't one of them though unfortunately

Actually JAY she does have a good understanding of truth and she puts everything to the test by the word of God........in the last three posts of yours I have not seen one verse...........

I don't claim to be a bible expert or try to put myself on a pulpit as you do dcontraversial. I want a relationship with Jesus not rep points on here. I see u commenting on nearly every thread and you do seem very knowledgeable but also arrogant and self righteous, whereas if u was a true christian your fruit would be on show but I see no fruit in your comments ever, you use bully boy tactics when someone says something you don't like. Bit of advice son, spend less time on the bible discussion forum and more time in the prayer requests

The sad thing is, there will be lots of 'nice' people in hell. The darker skinned, extra white toothed man that runs the local 7-11 store on the corner who's wife has a red dot in the middle of her forhead, who is always saying "THANKYOU" when you make a purchase, The hillarious clowns in the parade that wear the deep burgundy hats that say "GRAND PUBA of the Shriners", or the soft spoken elderly man who parks at a rest area, seeking attention from any other male that walks his way..or the young girl who rubs the runes in her pocket and takes time in her evening hours to pay homage to the goddess that rules the universe. Neither of these people will never 'harm' anyone physically, yet..their souls have not been surrendered to JESUS CHRIST and they never plan to be for they are secure in their chosen lifestyle. Yes, hell is as real as heaven is. As real as the eternity that we who have freewill chooses!

I really don't want to debate rather Hell Is eternal or not,but this is something that always bothered me. I can't stand the thought of anyone going to hell! The idea is so real to me. I get anxiety thinking about it. A 16 year old boy drowned the other day in a river and I couldn't help thinking, was he saved?? So the question is...As Christians,how do you deal with eternal hell fire? I've know pretty moral people that didn't know Jesus that have died...I can only wonder where their at. I'm no better than them except I have a savior..I look at America and see people mocking God,Mocking Jesus,mocking Christians...No one wants sound docterine anymore. America's rebellion and wickedness has made it hard to even witness to people...I'm getting off track...back to the question! How do you deal with Hell??

The Lord disciplines us appropriately for each sin we commit. Then he forgives us. The discipline can be quite severe if that is the only way we'll pay attention.
