All self checkout registers at my local WalMart can be set to receive cash or be set to not receive cash.
It is not about a conspiracy and never said it was.
My complaint was that I was not warned until I had already scanned everything, and then was told if I wanted to pay cash I would have to get in line at the one and only register that would receive cash.
If this is the new policy, they should have place a large sigh at the entrance stating the new policy. I could then decide if I wanted to shop there or not.
Not only did it waste my time, but they had to pay someone to restock everything I left on the register when I choose not to stand in a line with 30 others.

Am I foolish? May be in your eyes. But I have paid cash for over 75 years and old habits are hard to break.

it isn't the cash...it's making a conspiracy about everything...plus the time of year when wallys is extra extra busy

I did not make a conspiracy, Never said it was. Do not think it is.
WalMart can do as they wish. They do not need my input. They do not have to tell me what they have decided.
The fact that they did not until I had already drove 36 miles each way and spent an hour in the store made me mad.
So I came here and started a conversation asking in anyone else had similar experiences and it seem to have set you off.

Sorry if I upset you.

Not you! If people pay Walmart then Walmart has to have an armored van pick up the cash each day. You don't want to leave it overnight. cj

I thought most people understood this so I'll give a more detailed response since obviously you didn't get it.

"For businesses, paper money has to be managed: it must be stored, guarded, and accounted for. It can be difficult to transport and is inherently insecure. U.S. retail businesses lose about $40 billion annually because of the theft of cash alone. This cost is also disproportionately borne by mom-and-pops, many of which operate in poor neighborhoods and rural areas. These cash-dependent small businesses cannot afford sophisticated security and cash transportation services."

Also for businesses like Walmart that issues a Walmart Mastercard and also has a deal for cash back with a Capital One card they can make extra money if you use a card.

See Post 33, I wasn't talking about you needing "a howitzer" I was talking about the expense to Walmart with handling cash.
You have to pay the salaries for those trucks. and although 153k is average most people can imagine (different from hallucinating) that there are days of the year where that could be two or even three times that. You might want to have the armed guards coming repeatedly during the day so as not to encourage a robbery.

So please, you are extremely quarrelsome over something that is probably obvious to most adults.

Pro tip: if you only have a few items, go to the electronics counter and check out there. I did it to combat this problem when the only place that had what I wanted was there (30 min drive) or elsewhere (1.5hr drive).

You can also get a pre-paid Visa gift card that you can pay for with cash and it works like a credit card but doesn't contain the same identifying information if that's your concern.

Obviously there's a lot more behind the scenes but the surface level stuff is valid enough to just accept it and make other arrangements. It's a good wake up call if you needed one...Romans 8:28.

From a secular "good business" worldview...when a company is already entrenched and you have precious few other options it then becomes "my way or the highway". Why if it doesn't increase profits would a secular business cater to the minority?


Yes, arguments can be made for even more money and innovation to not alienate the minority AND cater to the majority but few are interested in such discussions currently.

That tip about checking out in Electronics is a real time saver. I think that it is 5 items or less but probably would take a few more if no one else is waiting. You can also check out in the Lawn & Garden center, Pharmacy, and even Customer Service.

OK one more time real slow and easy. You should cut back on the hallucinogens because you are starting to sound incoherent.

If you give Walmart cash they could end up with 153k at the end of the day that they need to take the bank. It costs them money in security to transport that money to the bank and it makes them a target for bank robbers. So they want to discourage using cash without actually telling anyone they are doing that. They could have every single register get cash but they choose not to. So by discouraging cash they save money. Insurance companies may even be involved here.

In addition they have credit cards that they want to encourage people to use because they make even more money every time you use their cards.

It is kind of like 2+2, you save 2$ by not having cash and you make 2$ more by using cards.

Anyway I hope this helps you realize that no one is telling you to bring a howitzer to Walmart.
 
No, I have not been to places that don't accept cash or avoid using cash. I rarely use cash since it is too time consuming and there is no need to deal with change, and I track my expenses better using cards (online banking). Also, I don't waste time going to ATM machines or banks.

The call log on the store stretches 126 pages, documenting more than 5,000 trips over the past five years. This article shows that the problem of crime at Walmart is very significant and much worse than other comparable stores like Target.

I totally forgot about Lawn & Garden, excellent. Didn't realize you could at the Pharmacy though. Customer service seems daunting with all those huge shopping carts ;)

I have done that at Publix if there's no one there.


For some reason this is bringing to mind those price checker things that were set up at random places around the store. Occasionally I think of them and wonder why they were ever needed in the first place. Or when Super Walmart was a rarity and was different from "Walmart". Finding a Super Walmart when traveling was a pain.

I lived in Florida for years and loved to shop at Publix. I particularly enjoyed the BOGO's. Miss that place. There are not too many Publix in Tennessee where I now reside. The closest on is about 1 1/2 hours away. In Florida there are Publix everywhere.
