How is that so when the Letter "J" has only been around for 400-440 years?

Online Etymology Dictionary
J the letter is a late modification of Roman -i-, originally a scribal creation in continental Medieval Latin to distinguish small -i- in cursive writing from the strokes of other letters, especially in the final positions of words. But in English, -y- was used for this, and -j- was introduced c.1600-1640 to take up the consonantal sound that had evolved from -i- since Late Latin times. This usage first was attested in Spanish, where it was in place before 1600. English dictionaries continued to lump together words beginning in -i- and -j- until 19c., and -j- formerly was skipped when letters were used to express serial order.

The Hebrew version of Matt uses Yeshua

Oh so not just the pronunciation of the name, the spelling also must not be upset in case some language doesnt have Hebrew equivalents, people are supposed to learn Hebrew.

How is that so when the Letter "J" has only been around for 400-440 years?

The Hebrew version of Matt uses Yeshua

So that hebrew version was around 2000 years ago?

or is an interpretation of something?

many people use jehovah, Many use yehovah the meaning does not change.

I thought the letter J was 490 years old or so... So it was a Y...right ? Yahshua

yes, some people translate the y as a j.

that is why depending on who you read. you will read jehovah or you will see the J as a y.

they are all transliterations anyway, using english letters.

He just wants to argue

"I was not know to them" --- what does this even mean?
Explain, paraphrase if you will to show what it means. But a sentence cannot be meaningless.
P.S. the verse I posted says they prayed to God Almighty but havent yet known the name YHWH. What is not clear?

I still want to know how he can prove Abraham, who most likely spoke arabic or Chaldean, and not hebrew, would have called God by his hebrew name?

I understand why Moses wrote it in hebrew, and translated the words given him to hebrew. Because it was written to hebrew people. Not arabic or chaldian people.

OK, sorry, I honestly thought you were messin with me.

Example of a negative affirmation:

can i have a cup of sugar?

I dont have one.

come on I need a cup of sugar.

If I had a cup of sugar would I not give it to you?

Genesis 12:8, "And he went from there to the hill east of Beth El, and he pitched his tent there; Beth El was to the west of him, and Ai was to the east. There he built an altar to Yahweh, and there he prayed with the Name of Yahweh."

"was I not known to them?"

IMPLYING they DID know His name, and Scriptually this fits because Abraham PRAYED with His name. If they didnt know His name there would be a contradiction here.

and and and

there is more evidence:

Genesis 4:26, "And as for Seth, to him also a son was born; and he named him Enosh. It was then that the Name of Yahweh began to be invoked again."

When Cain killed Abel it seems Yahweh Name was not spoken, but when Enosh was born, "the Name of Yahweh began to be invoked again"

Again how could they invoke it if they did not know it?

I don't know where this is found...but I have heard some say that God changed the language of Abraham....I think they get that from some scripture in Genesis....but I don't recall reading it, so like I said (HEARD THAT), but don't know where it comes from......!

better yet, how could they call him by his hebrew name if the hebrew language would not even be invented until after the flood. and after God confused the languages.

Your reading a hebrew text. written to hebrew people. It does not mean they actually called him by his hebrew name, You can not prove they did. so all your doing is causing a division in the church of God based on things you can not even prove.

Jehovah comes from the mistranslation of Latin speaking translators.

hovah in Hebrew means clamity, destruction...

THE RED DOTS WERE ADDED INTO THE LANGUAGE

How then does this part "by the name YHWH was I not known to them" make sense?
God does not say things without meaning. They have prayed to Him saying El Shaddai and not saying the word "YHWH" as the verse says.
Else the verse has no meaning at all.
The previous books have been translated into Hebrew.
Abraham apparently didnt speak in Hebrew but the books have been written by Moses, who did, so he substituted the words Abraham used for YHWH. Else the verse is lying.

I'm curios why there are so many here who say "Lord" in place of His name instead of doing as we are told to do.
Do you not know His name?

Psa 22:22 I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee

Psa 102:21 To declare the name of YHWH in Zion, and his praise in Jerusalem;

Isa_12:4 And in that day shall ye say, Praise YHWH, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted.

Zec 13:9 And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, YHWH is my Elohim.

Act 2:21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of YHWH shall be saved.

Heb 2:12 Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the assembly will I sing praise unto thee.

You want all CC members to deny the New Testament regarding its Greek text? You want the entire Christian population to forfeit the name of Jesus, whom they serve in Spirit, because you disagree with their pronunciation of the Lord’s name? And you advise the children of God to cease from calling Him, “Lord” or “Abba” or any other name except YHWH? (By the way, that IS one of the names I call the Lord.)

I wonder why the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ never once grieved within me when I called Him Jesus all these 36 years I’ve walked with Him. I also find it very amazing that when I was lost in darkness years ago, the name of JESUS stirred within me so tremendously that I fell to my knees in complete surrender and called out to Jesus to save me while at my neighbor’s house. One of my closest friends is a Jew and head of a Christian ministry in California. In all the years I’ve known him, he never once had problem with the name of Jesus. In fact, what of the “Jews for Jesus” organization? Some of the members call our Lord, “Jesus.”

This honesty sounds like an agenda more than anything else. If this is something you believe with your whole heart, and from your posts it’s obvious you do, why not just live it to yourself? I don’t have an issue with you stating what you believe. It just seems very legalistic and condemning to expect everyone to see things exactly the way you do, you know what I mean?

I suppose principalities and powers of darkness thrive in division of the brethren. I wish we could find a way to express ourselves without little cliques here and there ganging up on each other with wrong motives. Nevertheless, God’s will be done.

I just feel sad for the Lord when things of this nature keep cropping up all the time and causing division within the Christian family. Perhaps you should intercede before God and ask Him to put this burden on folks if you truly feel we are in error. I know without a shadow of a doubt that if God wants His people to stop calling Him anything but “YHWH” that He can get that point across to His own. And then we can get back to business of fellowship, edification, testimonies, praise, prayer, thanksgiving… and LOVE!
:)

Well im posting Scripture and your posting out of 2nd Opinions 2:4

im promoting the Name that the Creator says is His Name and a name the pharisees hid.... but im causing division....

sounds fishy to me.. I guess if you want to prove your right. Not sure why God would do that anyway, God is a personal God.

if I remember right. biblical hebrew is actually a mix of the language of jacob and his family and the Egyptian language which is ore Arabic.

some call it a reformed egyption language.

But I can;t remember where I saw that, it has been years when I studied it (I think when I was studying the book of mormon. who claimed the origional language of its book was a reformed egyption language, when I studied, I could out that was what hebrew was, and I thought it was amazingly ironic.

Youe posting a hebrew text. Assuming that adam spoke in hebrew. you know what yuo do when you assume do you not?

Does the oldest and most reliable "OT" text know to mankind use YHWH as the name of the Creator?

Youe posting a hebrew text. Assuming that adam spoke in hebrew. you know what yuo do when you assume do you not?

If the Scripture says Enosh invoked the Name of Yahweh, then I believe that.

I never said what language Adam spoke, but I do know he was alive when Enosh was alive... SO HE DID HEAR THE NAME YAHWEH

Hizi is right...

The very oldest Scriptural text ever found, dating back almost 2,600 years, was found in a tiny silver amulet which contains a seventh century b.c.e. extract from the book of Numbers (6:24-26), the Priestly (Aaronic) Blessing. The rolled up amulet was part of a treasure hoard found by a Tel Aviv University archeologist in a First Temple Period family tomb in Yerusalem, Israyl. When this amulet was written, the Temple of Solomon still stood, the heirs of King David still ruled on the throne, and the Dead Sea Scrolls would not be written for another 400 years.

It was three years after this discovery before this fragile amulet could be unrolled by technical experts at the Israyl Museum. On this amulet the NAME of YAHWEH could be clearly read.

it would.

why??

IT WAS WRITTEN IN HEBREW TO THE HEBREW PEOPLE..

false. it was written for all of us that truly seek the Creator.

Romans 15:4, "For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope."

1 Corinthians 10:11, "Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come."

If the Scripture says Enosh invoked the Name of Yahweh, then I believe that.

Most likely, God, Who was speaking to moses, and told moses (who spoke Hebrew and was writing to a hebrew people) translated what ENOSH said into Hebrew.

the only way to PROVE what enosh actually said, is to find a book written in ENosh's language, which we have non.

You will NEVER PROVE TO ANYONE 9with an open mind) that ENosh used the words YHWH by using a hebrew text written to a hebrew people
