But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. John 4:23-24

These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.
Matthew 15:8-9

I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him. John 14:16-17

If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.
John 14:23-24

My doctrine is not Mine, but His who sent Me. John 7:16

that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.
John 5:23

And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. John 17:3

Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. John 17:17

Explaining Matthew 15:8-9

The verses you quoted from Matthew 15:8-9 are a powerful statement from Jesus criticizing hypocrisy in religious practice. Here's a breakdown:

Context:

Before this passage, Jesus clashed with the Pharisees, religious leaders who emphasized strict adherence to traditions and rituals. They criticized his disciples for not washing their hands before eating, a ritualistic practice not mandated in scripture.

Verse 8:

  • "This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me."
    • This describes outward expressions of piety without genuine inner conviction. People may go through rituals and offer prayers, but their hearts are not truly connected to God.
    • The imagery of "mouth" and "lips" emphasizes outward actions, while "heart" signifies inner devotion and sincerity.

Verse 9:

  • "But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men."
    • This condemns prioritizing human-made religious traditions over God's true teachings.
    • "In vain" implies their worship is meaningless and ineffective.
    • "Commandments of men" refers to human-made rules and interpretations that add to or replace God's law.

Interpretation:

Jesus criticizes those who prioritize outward religious rituals over genuine faith and living by God's true teachings. He emphasizes the importance of internal transformation and a sincere relationship with God.

Different Interpretations:

  • Literal vs. Figurative: Some interpret the passage literally, implying God rejects all worship done without pure motives. Others see it as figurative, highlighting the importance of sincerity and genuine faith.
  • Specificity: Some interpretations apply it to specific groups or practices, while others see it as a broader critique of hypocrisy in any religious context.

Further Exploration:

  • Consider how these verses resonate with your own understanding of faith and religious practice.
  • Explore different interpretations and perspectives on this passage.
  • Reflect on how to cultivate a genuine and sincere relationship with God.

Remember, interpreting scripture can be complex and nuanced. This explanation is just a starting point for your own exploration and reflection.

Noone on Earth brings new revelation, that isn't already revealed through the Word of God, which is fullest revelation given to man. Through the moving and operation of the Holy Ghost, I Pray what we say here brings the truth of these Revelations, truth by truth, or precept upon precept, to the heart of the hearer. Lay what we say before the feet of Jesus (Word of God) and compare, the Bible is Always truth, so if they don't match, we need to reevaluate our stance. What we say or do here will have lasting impact upon the believer and sinner alike. We most certainly have freedom of speech, but any true christian will weigh what they say against the Word of God and if they don't agree God is not in error, and we need to pray for understanding. Those that have more meat of the Word can help those who are struggling, if done with humility, peace and love. I don't mind a peaceful debate, but when we start to argue amongst each other that is not the Spirit of God. God Bless and Peace to you all. If the Messiah's teaching is not clear, prayer should be the tonic for understanding.

Sure. I can pray. And study. And meditate. And fast. That still wouldn't tell me what you understand it to mean. I'm interested in your understanding.

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.”
‭‭John‬ ‭4:24-26‬ ‭

“worship him in spirit”

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭6:63‬ ‭KJV‬‬

and in truth.

“Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.”

not sure exactly what your question is asking. I explained the scriptures clearly at least I thought, or do you want to know how I came about my explantion.
No. You gave an overall view with arguments for a number of positions. I was wondering if you could simply summarize your position in your own words in a paragraph.

That’s what Jesus is doing in the gospel brother what your reading In that op there is segments of this

“It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.”
‭‭John‬ ‭6:45‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: and he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:1-2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭31:34‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Why not listen to Jesus thoughts about things and start there then talk about what he had to say ?

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I think the op makes a really strong statement and point and if people would hear it it would begin to work in them to bring them to Christs thinking I think brother that is actually salvation hesring the gospel Jesus preached and lived and died and then believing what’s there in it

I thought the op was really strong but I digress

OP is great. But scripture is vastly deep and wide. It means far more than a cursory reading reveals. I'm trying to find out what God has revealed to others. I already know what He has revealed to me. So unless someone explains what their understanding of the scripture is, I can only be edified by the scripture, and not the revelation God may have shared with them.

Yeah brother what I’m saying is lol you asked about the point of the post I think if one reads it it’s really clear is all I was saying I understand what you said your looking to hear what others think about it …..

thebinly reason I said anything is because I thought I understood the point of the post 🙂 I have no issue with what you replied I understand what your saying

what if our goal was to just really hear what he said though and learn from him in the doctrine he sent out

sort of we need to actually be careful listening to thoughts that didn’t come from Christ Jesus because of this part

“But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, ( thoughts and ideations that don’t belong ) even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭2:1-2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

aid Adam and Eve had just stopped after they heard what the lord said and not listened to the other guys ideas wouldnt rhey have ever thought the fruit was good for food and ate it ? What if they had ended at “ the fruit is deadly don’t eat it you’ll die “

Faith comes when we hear the lord bit then Satan is afterwards trying to steal it away he does this often by distorting it sometimes a person can be charismatic and oresent well to people even be talking about “ salvstion and grace and faith and truth “ but really the thoughts they are revealing about those things aren’t from God

It actually can lead us astray to let the wrong thoughts in that’s why Satan corrupts minds and creates false teachers just like him in Eden hesr gods word ….explain it away and say something else

“And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:15-17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Just saying brother then I’ll shush up we want to make sure a subtle thought went work in and deranged the truth it can happen very easily sometimes a message sounds wonderful and good but really it’s a lie that can lead people astray

If we make sure what Jesus actually said first those other things stick out like a sore thumb

I appreciate your perspective more than you know. And I'm not advocating ceasing from personal study. But if we can get all the understanding we need through our own endeavor, what do we need teachers and preachers for?
Personally, I'm also interested in how people come to understand as they do.

i totally understood your first respnse brother lol and your intentions and everything you know me I say too much

i believe for sure we should discuss it brother it’s a discussion forum in sayong I don’t think many folks have actually heard what he said to begin with in order to discuss it

a Jesus particularly when he became flesh those things that he said and promised life we need to hear first that’s all I’m saying maybe we hear it in church or an online forum like this ……the op all those things Jesus said let’s discuss those in more detail the op has opened up an opportunity

a personal study is sirely important but alot of people don’t really have time because they aren’t old retired folk like me lol so I’m not saying that at all we just need to hear it and then we’ll know what he said and can discuss it and lift one another up with it as believers

Instead of arguing our own thoughts about salvation we could all partake of Jesus thoughts and believe his way and then get the soul train locomotive crackin

Yes also you have a very admirable “people person “ quality I wish I had myself . You have the nature a man needs to get somewhere into someone’s life with the information you have because of that sincere good human quality you have it’s noticeable brother I’ve always appreciated you . youve had a lot of grace towards me and others and it’s noted and needed and appreciated

I’m a bit more like 80 grit sandpaper or chalkboard skreaching sometimes

hopefully there’s grace for my flaws , I believe there’s grace enough for all of our shortcomings who believe in the good Lord if we know and really believe this much of what he said then we can believe it and it’s true we and then we can grow up in that faith

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭KJV‬‬
