Sin came into the world through Adam

Sin resulted in death

Death spread to all men because all sinned

Many died through one man’s trespass

Death reigned through Adam because of the trespass

One trespass led to condemnation for all men

Many were made sinners by Adam’s disobedience

If my sin is not by my free will choices rather than an inborn sinful nature, then explain why Adam sinned in the first place.

Praise the Lord, I have come to an understanding about this.

This is what I believe.

All humans are born with a sinful nature. When Adam disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden, sin entered the world through him. It was not the case that all humans collectively sinned when Adam sinned and took part in his sin; this passage does not say this. However, God regards us as though we did, since Adam was the representative of the human race. That Adam was one representative of the human race (the other being Christ) is the whole point of the passage. Therefore Adam’s sin is counted against us, and we are born sinners. We inherit Adam’s sinful and corrupted nature, which makes us predisposed towards evil. This nature is the fountain from which our individual sins flow. We did not choose to have this nature, however we do choose to commit individual sins because of this nature. Because of the fall we have lost the ability to choose to act in the highest form of good consistent with the nature of the human race prior to the fall.

Adam and Eve, had free will no one argues about that. The problem is not physical freewill but Spiritual freewill.

You are free to buy whatever car you want, what house to buy , how to spend your money.

Yet because of the Fall you are naturaly against God, the Human nature has changed. your disposition is towards a sin nature not a glorifying God nature. we love the darkness and not the light.

This of course does not mean we are all as bad as we could be, some murder some rape, others constantly tell lies, adultery etc etc, you have to remember that we are dispositioned against God. so all your choices although your own choice are not totally free, why is this.

because you are a slave to the world, you thoughts are of carnal things, so your 'free' choices spring from a carnal nature.

And if you say my choices are not based on a carnal nature then you are full of pride and thus making that choice from a carnal nature!

Now that you are in Christ, you are a slave to Christ, your thoughts should spring from this new nature that you have been given by God, so although your still free to choose, your choices will spring from the goodness that is within you, fruit of the spirit and if you don't you have an advocate Jesus.

This is the big mistake people have about the reformed position regarding freewill, we believe you have free wil, but it any choice that you make springs from either a carnal mind or a new regenerated mind in Christ.

So although you make the choice.. this choice can only stem from your nature, that is either sinful or regenerated.

hope that helps to clear things up.

Thats why I cant believe how many people attack Calvinism, yet they don't really know what it is.

you have freewill but your choices will always stem from your nature or who you are.

to put this simply.

If you are not in Christ your choices will come from a carnal mind you are a slave to the principalities of the world.

If you are in Christ your choices will flow from the renewed nature in you, the power of the Spirit will guide you.

Sharp, this is partly wrong. Nowhere in the passage does it say Adam is our representative, and the passage does not necessarily imply this.

Righteousness is imputed to us because of Jesus’ death on the cross, but the passage does not say or necessarily imply that Adam’s sin is imputed to us in the same way. It simply says that death reigned through Adam’s sin and spread to all men. In this way, many men were made sinners by inheriting Adam’s corrupted nature. The doctrine of representation and imputation just overcomplicates things in my opinion.

Yes I'm arguing with myself - I think my previous post was incorrect.

:D I was scratching my head there for a moment... Sharp's post, talking to Sharp... Sharp's post, talking to Sharp... Then I saw your note.

God said that the father will not be responsible for the son's sins and the son will not be responsible for the father's sins but everybody will bear their own sins.

We do not inherit the sin of Adam and Eve but because they sinned it brought death to the human race because everybody came from them.

What Adam and Eve did when they ate the fruit and disobeyed God is that they were then aware of a choice between good and evil and were ashamed that they were naked testifying that they had done wrong.

Everybody that came from Adam and Eve,which is the whole human race, would be born with a choice between good and evil so people will not know God when they are born until they come to God later.
Everybody is born in to sin because they have a choice between good and evil and they do not know God and are separated from God until they come to Him later in life.
Everybody is born in to sin because we have a choice between good and evil and since we do not know God until we come to Him later we will sin before we come to God.

We do not inherit Adam and Eve's sin for they have to bear their own sin,we do not bear it,but what they did was give man a choice between good and evil so we are born not knowing God and we will sin before we come to God.

We don't inherit Adam's sin; we inherit his sinful nature.

The passage says nothing about gaining the ability to choose; it says by the one man's disobedience many were made sinners.

No dude... that was all you!

I know it's been a while... di you ever confess your sin before the Lord, ask for forgivness, and forsake your sin???

Sometimes we chose to sin because we want to or feel like it. At other times we sin through a slip of the tongue. We get mad, so we say something bad and then regret it later.
