That is not what those passages in Deuteronomy are saying. Atheists will often paste scriptures to make the Christians appear as if they're worshiping evil when they worship God.
Show them the truth and perhaps the heart will open.

True worship belongs to God and is defined by God and is expressed by His people in the way He desires to be worshiped. We worship God on purpose, not by accident.

The RCC is the first to tell you that there are many other saints besides those whom they proclaim, though those whom they proclaim as saints are indeed saints, yes because they said so, because Christ said that if they said so then it would be so. This is the great commission.
I am afraid, my friend, that you are the one ignoring the teachings of our Lord,, not the RCC.

Who would have ever thought it back in the day? An authority that ruled nearly the whole world, their government, in concert with the Jews at the time, killed God.
And nearly 300 years later a church committed to his worship was started under Roman authority.

The Apostles were first called Christians at Antioch, because they followed Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Once again I will state Christians ( Believers in Jesus as Lord and Savior ) are the true church.
Not catholic, Baptist, evangelist, or any other denomination you belong to.
I understand that the Catholic church was started by Peter, Augustine, and Paul, but in case you don't know your history it also was the first church denomination to be corrupted. Hince why things they do just like you can find in any other denominational branch is not fully bible oriented.

Wow. You're all over the place. Augustine lived some 400 years after Peter and Paul, and was a CONVERT to Christianity (Catholicism). He did not start the Church. Christ did, and commissioned Peter (and his successors) as it's leader in His absence, until He (Jesus) comes again.
Augustine, before his conversion, practiced Manichaeism, his father was a pagan. His mother Monica however (whose feast day in the Church happens to be today actually) was a devout Christian (Catholic) who prayed and prayed all her life for the conversion of her gifted son (Augustine) who refused for many years, well into his 30's. Augustine finally had a revelation after he heard a child-like voice tell him to open the bible. He opened the bible to Paul's Epistle to the Romans, and the rest is history.
You should study him. He's a great man.
You should study the history of the Church, and the Church fathers. Seek after the truth.
You are doing better, Ken, when you say that the Catholic Church was started by Peter. More accurately though started by Jesus Christ our Lord when he commissioned Peter with that office.
Yet you contradict yourself when you say that it is a "denomination" and "corrupted". Yes the Church is under constant attack from within and without. Remember our Lords' promise though when he said about her; "And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it."
He promised us. And here we are 2000 years later and she's still going strong today, 1.2 billion members, and having outlasted every empire that's ever existed. Praise God!
p.s. St. Augustine's feast day happens to be tomorrow in the Church. Gonna be a great Mass.

Yes, Rome was the great persecuter of Christians, eventually however becoming overwhelmingly Christian. What a radical conversion. Truly divine. It's beautiful. Christ reigns.
