Dealing with anxiety lately and besides prayer, sometimes I like to find an activity where my mind can drift to God. Like I’ve been painting images of Jesus or his sacred heart. I would love some other suggestions.

...go out, great everyone you meet in kindness and joy. Smile, and focus on others, giving time and attention solely to them. Don't preach. Just love them as you find them. This works every time for me.

Hi @Vinny22,

Welcome to CC! I love your idea of using your artistic gifts to spend time with God. I was once in a Sunday school class where the teacher was a professional artist, and it was unlike any class I'd ever been part of.

One week, she had us draw/paint our questions to God. Now I'm NO artist in any sense, so all I could do was draw a little stick figure of a house, and underneath it I wrote, "God, where is home?" (Where are you wanting me to move to?)

Another time, she brought clay and told us to make sculptures that signified how we are vessels of Lord, from which He wants to pour out His grace, mercy, and character.

I loved that class and have never looked at creative activities the same way (they can all be made into time with God!)

Do you have any places or trips that you might be able to take, whether by yourself or with others?

A long time ago, I was able to go to with a family member to a particular war memorial that was very meaningful to that person, and I saw God everywhere -- in the people visiting, in the words and names carved into the memorial, and, most delightfully of all, in a wonderful older black tour guide who told gently scolded us, saying, "Life is too short to be grumpy!"

I understand what it's like to deal with anxiety, and I believe God told me, "You need to find me in other places."

Maybe you can go for a walk, for a picnic, go fishing or do something else you enjoy -- ask God to help you see Him in all of these things, and you might be able to experience Him in a much different way. :)

May God bless you and please keep us posted on how you're doing!

Despite the hassle of morning commute, I do enjoy looking at the sky (and depending on the time of year, the sunrise). My mind does drift to God many times. Taking a walk, or other solo exercise activities like running or swimming, may have the same effect. I would like to be more involved with art but I have no talent there, and would have to learn from scratch. You can also find calming music or videos with nice scenaries/screensavers.
