Do Bible Numbers Have Meaning or Is It Just Useless Filler Information That We Should Ignore within the Bible?

Side Note:
Didn't want to create this thread initially, but I feel now that it needs to be spoken about (So people are aware what of what the purpose of numbers is in our Bibles).

When the Scriptures were being written, the people at that time subscribed to a system called Gematria where every number symbolized a concept. In that time, the numbers held huge significance to the readers. Now, obviously, they don't have any power over us but that we understand the relationship between why some numbers are used and others aren't. Hope this helps :)

I have NEVER heard of Miracle Math or whatever it is called. I need to do some study on it. But yes, as you said, each number in the Bible does have a meaning every time it appears.

I have heard of numbers having meaning in the bible and I also have heard of many people looking for sequences of numbers thinking they are messages from God but I dont want to go into that because i have seen how it messes with your mind. and yet i see four numbers everywhere and I dont mean to see them they are just everywhere I look 111 222 333 911 and sometimes 555 444

Whatever 'meaning' a bible number would have would be dependent on the text, now wouldn't it?

If we are talking about the number 7 or the number 12. Yes they have meaning. 7 is a perfect holy number. That is why the Hebrew word for covenantal oath is literally translated as "to seven oneself." 12 is a semitic cultural number which means the whole of something. Though this is probably more influenced on the fact that they are the 12 Tribes, than the number having influence on the Tribes.

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yBvjnmJr3l8 ---- this is their "number 19 theory or whatever it is"
God is simple to me, Jesus hides no secrets from us, He explained in words how to live our lives after Him, the numbers are insignificant for our faith, we don't need a number to believe the Bible is truth, Jesus's words are enough for me is all I'm saying.

1 Chronicles 27:1
Now the children of Israel after their number, to wit, the chief fathers and captains of thousands and hundreds, and their officers that served the king in any matter of the courses, which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, of every course were twenty and four thousand.

24,000 seems like a accurate description number of the army, not anything else is all I'm saying as well. It's just a description to make us understand the story, not " useless filler " as you quoted in thread name brother Jason.

The thing about Evolution is that we are just a product of random chance. God does not put things within His Word that would promote random chance. Even the casting of lots amongst believers in the Scriptures was understood that it was God who was deciding the outcome. Nothing in this life is designed by random chance. Everything within God's Word has a purpose and a meaning.

Also, God does not always talk in a straight forward easy to understand way (So all can understand). God's Word is hidden from unbelievers or those who would doubt His Word. For it is one of the reasons why Jesus speaks in parables.

Take the number 3 for example.

The physical body of Jesus died on the ninth hour (3:00PM).
3 crosses.
3 inscriptions.
3 days and nights in heart of the Earth (Whereby He had risen).
3 Mary's (John 19:25)
3 things were given to him dying his punishment to show that he was a King.
3 nails.
3 things involved in our redemption - Death/Burial, Resurrection, Ascension (After seeing Mary).

Coincidence? If you believe in such things.

Don't forget the 3 gifts.

Gold for the King of Kings
Frankincense for the Priest of Priests
Myrrh for the Sacrifice of Sacrifices.

I disagree, my brother. Revelation 13:18 says we gain wisdom by counting a particular number. We see a meaning not only in the number mentioned in Revelation 13 but in other numbers in the Bible. These number's meanings are not random in their meaning like the fake Korah math miracle, but the numbers have meaning based on the surrounding words in it's context.

Not everyone is intelligently inclined to numbers including myself, but everyone in the spirit can understand parables, the meaning behind the words, Jesus didn't say understand divine numbers, to get to heaven, but Jesus often spoke in parables, for the spirit to discern to you the meanings that we understand the right way to live, to get to Him, with understanding. As I said I'm ok with you matching up numbers or studying them in the Bible, but the gospels are much more important to me, then any number. All I'm saying Jason.

This is about the beast...the beasts number...

Revelation 13:16-18

16 It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, 17 so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name.

18 This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man.[a] That number is 666.

I wouldn't say the numbers of stuff in the Bible are useless info., but they are not as significant as people make them out to be. A lot of the modern hokey number theories regarding the Bible actually have their origin in numerology and/or gematria which are vain magic which is evil for reason it is deception.

The number itself is not so significant, numbers are merely a way to count. The Bible provides a literal and historical account of the past. Thus whenever certain numbers appear the meaning is clear within the text. For instance 12 Tribes of Israel. The number 12 was not assigned to the 12 Tribes for an arbitrary or magical reason. It was for literal reason that Jacob had 12 sons whom are the Patriarchs of the 12 Tribes. Or the 40 days and nights of the Flood. 40 days and nights were not chosen because of symbolism or any of that, it is a literal account of the duration of the Flood. Whenever a number is encountered in the Bible it is accounted for why it is in there, be it about a lifespan, number of children, size of an army, etc.
