guys get a bad rap by design!

anyone remember the Berenstain Bear books?
stupid, childish husband needing to be saved by wise and patient wife?

i bought one; thought the pics were cute.
husband read it, and burned it. (lol--he did, tho)

we've all been brainwashed, to an extent.
men, to think that's the norm, and they don't need to take on real responsibility,
and women, to think they are superior to men.:(

ugh! destroy the family has been the agenda--think it might have worked?
(in society in general--you guys and gals are great.:) )

yes when I think of the Bernstein Bears, I think brainwashing lol I kid!
Or this one: boy needing to be saved by submissive, concerned, frightened wife from abusive angry dad:

I don't remember how this one ends, or could possibly end, without that boy getting some kind of physical punishment that will scar him for life

arwen, are you saying that just because i only read the one book, they may not have been the best example? :p

i do pray so much for our children.
i don't know how anyone in your generation stands.
(well, sure i do--by God's grace alone. ♥)

Part of the mission of Cultural Marxism, which the left that controls most of the mainstream media and the failing modern liberal public indoctrination system they dare to call education these days ascribe to, is the destruction of the traditional family and the man's Biblical role.

Goals of Marxism (as stated by Karl Marx):

1. Destroy the Family
2. Destroy Private Property
3. Destroy Religion
4. Destroy the Nation

I absolutely agree, GRA. In Mark 3, Jesus said, "[SUP]27 [/SUP]In fact, no one can enter a strong man’s house without first tying him up. Then he can plunder the strong man’s house."

If you take out the God-intended leader of the home, you take down his family. The most grievous part of this is that it is most often the man's own wife who is tearing him down...the one God intended to be his helpmate. :( Few things mean as much to a man as the respect of his woman. If she doesn't respect him, someone out there will. And there goes the family...

Have we forgotten what happened in Genesis 3? Men and women have the conflict we do because of The Fall. Everything that has been mentioned here is nothing new... there's just more of it. Men have been leaving their families, or women have been nagging their husbands, or people have been having sex out of wedlock since, well, forever. Civilization has been on a downward spiral since the beginning. We haven't been on a roller coaster of time and space, we haven't had a good period of time where the world was following God. Not ever. I think we've made the mistake of believing our situation is worse because it's new to us, but it's not new to humanity. Men, as Sons of Adam you've always been more likely to take the easy way out. You'll do the bare minimum because your DNA and sin nature tells you that someone will come along and a) help you clean it up or b) do it for you. That's why we've got 30 year old boys living in basements. And women, as Daughters of Eve our desire is for our husbands, but they are off elsewhere. We crave attention, and instead of being honest we tend toward our DNA and sin nature which is domineering and manipulative. Without being secure in Christ and in who we are as people, we're basically subject to our sin nature and base desires. Does it have to be this way? Of course not! However, it is what it is. Ladies, you've said that you have no desire for a man who plays video games all day. And I completely see your point. But what's wrong with a little gaming? Or poker nights? Or whatever? Let your men be who they are. If you get to be you, they get to be them. And gentlemen, you say that you don't want a nagging and controlling wife. I don't blame you! However, what's wrong with creating an environment to which your girlfriend or wife can come to you, discuss her concerns, and feel safe while doing so. Women don't want to be fixed, they want to be heard. If we create a place in a marriage which reflects the type of relationship we have with the Lord, I think we would be surprised at how well things would actually work. We must remember that we are sinners more often than we are saints. Grace is to be extended to our mates as frequently as it is extended to us by our Father. Being in community with people will bring out the worst in us, that is to be expected and welcomed! Because from that and through that our sanctification process happens all the quicker.

Excellent post, Duchess. I have to admit though, the bit below doesn't come naturally to us guys. We find it very confusing. All the same, that doesn't mean we shouldn't attempt to listen rather than 'fix'. :)

Women don't want to be fixed, they want to be heard.

Most guys don't get a bad rap... most guys get the reputation they deserve (or a better rep than they deserve). Most of the rest of us get a bad rap, but perhaps that statement should hold true to anyone claiming the name of Christ.

Several well spoken, good opinions in this thread, some poorly spoken good opinions, several red flags - both well spoken and the other sort. As Christians (single or not!), we must be careful what we allow to drag us down or build us up, lest we taint our witness to the world, lead someone away from the faith, give up on morals we should hold strong to, or build for ourselves a house of cards (...and the rains came tumbling down...). I hope (someday) for things to slow back down enough for me to do some more specific replies, but this week at my house (on top of working a little overtime) we've got Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, mid-week service, homework galore, regular chores, and...

...well, this is more my rap ;)

Imnsho: There's still a few of us fellas out there that do actually want what God wants us to want... and I hear there's some of you Ladies out there that want that too.

Seatbelt, I don't have a clue what you just said. When you have the time could you be a little more specific? Cheers.

{posting from work on a break that I actually took for a change... overworked & underslept...please understand this is posted without any hard feelings, I apologize in advance if it is written with an unintended harshness or edge to it.}

Paragraph one, translated:
Most Guys suck. There are some truly horrible guys that are treated with the general reputation of guys in general and benefit from that. The good guys may get a raw deal because of the other guys. Christians should be better than the reputation in general of whatever subgroup they belong to (men, women, people who drive on the left/right side of the road, etc.). Because we should be living to a higher standard than the world in general, we should expect to have to overcome a certain amount of "Bad Rap."

Paragraph two, translated: some posts are well written, some posts are not, but in both of those categories there are people who said good things and people who said stuff that I consider to be Scary.
We as Christians must mind what we allow to influence us for the following reasons:
we may be led away from gospel truth
we may lead others away
we may damage our ability to lead others to Christ
we may give in to the evil one eroding our faith
we may place faith in something other than gospel truth
ad nauseaum
(Is my middle name Tommy?)

Tagline, translated:
Imnsho = In my not so humble opinion
Ladies don't loose hope, there's some good fellas out there (& I don't mean the cosa nostra sort)
Gents, don't loose hope, there's some good women out there, too.

I think seatbelt has some valid points. it is hard not to let the bad guys colour your opinion of all guys.

On another note girls are an absolute sucker for bad guys but they think theu can change them and usually it doesn't work.

No one can can make any one change. Any bad boy or bad girl changes because they want to, not because their partner makes them. You are right in saying that a woman loves a bad boy because she wants to change/rescue them. However, I don't think that women want to rescue a man out of the goodness of their heart. I think women want to make men change because we're manipulative, and because they're doing it to impress their female friends. They also do it to bolster their self worth. There is something about women in a group setting where attention and props are given for "helping" a man out of his problems. Women brag about making a man "worthy", "liveable", "trained", etc. What those women are actually bragging about is emasculating their partner. It's one thing when a boyfriend or husband says or does something hurtful. By all means, tell them about it! But from what I've seen, "training" a man means to mold him into the image you find most acceptable. If you're in a dating relationship and you don't like the person you're with, LEAVE. Don't try to "fix" him, that's utterly ridiculous. If you're in a marriage and you don't like the person you're with, seek Godly counsel. Soulmates don't exist people. You can choose to love the person you're with, and with God, the marriage can get better.

I disagree, I think soulmates do exsist. I think God has someone special for each of us.

Seatbelt, thanks for clarifying, mate. When you say 'most guys suck', I understand what you mean but it's not the most loving way of putting it. There are already enough boys and men in the world who don't know who they are and what their role is as a male. Also, with all the crap in the world, it's easy for guys to feel guilty for being male. I've grown up in a loving Christian family and I still felt a lot of that from the outside world. Don't be ashamed of who you are because you're male. Do something to change the world. Show people there are godly guys who are respectful, responsible and loving etc.

leelee, I regret that I must refer to a source outside of CC other than the Bible for this, but without delving into it too deeply, please allow me to encourage you to review the following:
Soul Mates and Selfishness
I do not blanketly endorse anyone on any topic other than the Holy Scriptures themselves, but I think Mark Gungor has a good thing or two to say.

Agreed, any appearance of change (when externally motivated like this) cannot be sustained indefinitely. My authority on this is from having been that bad boy. Several times.

I normally would not say such a thing as this, as I come from a somewhat conservative background, however, in my most Southern voice I must say, " Per-eeaaach it sistuh! "

Seatbelt, thanks for clarifying, mate. When you say 'most guys suck', I understand what you mean but it's not the most loving way of putting it.

I said it more fluffy in the first post for any readers with more delicate sensibilities. Thought I'd cut to the chase & prevaricate about the shrubbery a little less when re-posting. Tintin you are a swell guy, and I like ya fine enough. I am, however, picking apart your post a little, Tin^2.

There are already enough boys and men in the world who don't know who they are and what their role is as a male.

Ah, yes, the great calling for Men's Ministries... It took me finding my own Christian Mentors to figure out what it meant to be a man, and what it meant to be a Christian man. Amusingly, my definitions there in the end turned out to be the perfect circle of Venn diagrams. You don't have to be a man as great as Paul to have your own Timothy. If you're doing a half decent job of being a man after God, you will discover that there are already others watching and learning from you. That certainly shook me a bit the first time I noticed. I say, however, be Both. Find your own Paul - or better still, a Team of Pauls to be a Timothy to, and be intentional with at least on Timothy as his Paul. Be, however, humble in this. As oft noted, those who choose to teach will be held to a high standard. (you likely know the chapter & verse)

Also, with all the feces in the world, it's easy for guys to feel guilty for being male. I've grown up in a loving Christian family and I still felt a lot of that from the outside world.

See Paragraph two.

Don't be ashamed of who you are because you're male. Do something to change the world. Show people there are godly guys who are respectful, responsible and loving etc.

I'm going to need you to rephrase that in some way as an "I" statement.
I am neither ashamed of my own status as a male or ashamed of my own past mistakes as a "bad boy." I am, however, embarrassed for the human race for our own humanness. God gave us the ability to do better than what we as a species tend to do. I accept my part in that, and try, therefore, to do a little better with what little I can say is truly mine (me, my actions, my reactions, little else). God has given me grace and changed me once I was willing to let Him do so.

I am insufficient to change the world. I am, however doing a good job of maintaining my little corner of it that God did change. I support God's work in what ways I can, and play an active role in it as allowed. In addition, and primarily, I am also doing my best to be a half decent dad to my kids. As for what I am incapable of doing for them, what I might in my own humanness fail to do for them, and what fails to be done for them on the other front, I make it a point to connect them with a church family that is doing a swell job of filling in the gaps in their parenting.
I am not always perfectly respectful, but I am responsible over and above. I'll own that flaw and try to work further at my respectfulness.

I challenge you to find a more loving (earthly) father. I know my Heavenly Father outshines me on all fronts, though.

There are Godly Guys out there. Certainly more Godly than flawed me. Similarly there are Godly Gals out there too. Easily, however, we see the flaws from our own couched positions of pain. Yes, we need to show our good, but I say we also need to see the good. from time to time, look less for the Godly man and look for the bit of God in man. Man is Flawed. God, however, has something that can be said through any of us if we will both listen and allow Him to speak.

Fantastic post. I agree with much of what you've said, I just think we're approaching the issue from different angles. I wasn't aiming that part of the post (about changing the world) etc. at you but males in general. Yes, on our own we can't change the world, only Jesus Christ can do that, but we can do our bit to help. Not to set up God's Kingdom here on earth but to negate some of the side effects of sin that curse the world. And yet, I believe guys do get a bad rap. Political correctness has become political stupidity. For example, if you work with kids and teenagers, you won't have to look too far to find someone who'll label you a pedophile or abuser, just because you're male. And that belief hurts, it really does. I'm growing in my God regularly, in my faith in him, in my identity and purpose in him. It's an ongoing and painful but worthwhile process. Thanks again, mate. Good on you for doing your bit!

I do not blanketly endorse anyone on any topic other than the Holy Scriptures themselves, but I think Mark Gungor has a good thing or two to say.

I concede that soulmate could be the wrong term to use and I am not expecting to walk down the street one day and hear a divine voice declare. ..."that's the one, go get him." However I am fairly certain that my loving father has an interest in mu future happiness and therefor not just anybody will do. Obviously I am going to look for someone who shares my faith but that is not the only thing I am looking for. And I am sorry to sound harsh but I think that naking do and expecting nothing is just sad.

...Obviously I am going to look for someone who shares my faith but that is not the only thing I am looking for. And I am sorry to sound harsh but I think that making do and expecting nothing is just sad.

Proud of you, sister for making it a requirement that you not be yoking yourself to an unbeliever!
As for the sounding harsh... making do and expecting nothing IS sad. Perhaps you are just handing out tough love there.

I try to not second guess God's divine plan. Maybe I'm supposed to remarry some day. Maybe I have a life of ministering as a single person ahead of me. Why not? Show me where it speaks of the 12 disciple's spouses? For now, I focus on what is needed today (sufficient unto the day is...), try to do my best with that, and give the rest over to Christ. Happiness is not really a scriptural teaching, and I know of one (and from a distance observe others) led astray seeking it. Contentment is something that we Are called to strive for, though. I know that whatever sorrows this world holds for me God is interested in my Eternal happiness and in His house there are "many rooms" that one day I may have the possibility to reside forever with Him. For now, I only look for reasonably happy in this world and look forward to supremely happy with Him in the next. In the meantime, it astounds me how much Joy - even in times of sorrow - I can find in the Lord.

now if I could just figure how to pick up this locomotive... Sorry, Zaoman.
