Does anyone remember the very quaint "shopping bag ladies" of the late 1970's and early 80's? They even made movies about some of them. I remember them vividly. These people, not just the ladies by the way, eked out a living, barely, by any means availed to them because they had fallen through the cracks in the then extant welfare system. I knew of working poor living up to five in an efficiency in Chicago. There were people sleeping nights in Lower Wacker Drive, a subterranean way under part of Chicago's Loop; the Loop is the downtown area encircled by the elevated train.
This type of poverty began then, so long ago, and it never went away, but Americans learned to ignore it as though the miracle of the US economy reached these folks. The numbers have increased steadily since then, but through certain voodoo economics practices, they were counted out of the system, ie when an individual's unemployment benefits would run out, they were no longer counted as unemployed though they may be sleeping under a bridge and getting their food from grocery store dumpsters and the like. By the way, it was a president who coined the expression "voodoo economics," Ronald Reagan, and his administration is the one that actually began in earnest to put it into practice. It is world wide today.
The world has already become Africa and Mexico for a great number of citizens in all countries. Please do not come to the defense of these practices, I have been there, witnessed it, and I remember it day to day. May Yahweh bless the oppressed of this age, though their numbers increase by the hour, He is making note of it.
Surely He is returning soon with true justice and judgment in His Hand. Come Lord, Yeshua, come, amen.
