Maybe this is how we know what it is, arwen. Maybe when it doesn't fade, it's true.

I have to agree. Having had two very serious relationships, I see two very different results out of them. I thought both were love at the time, but one lives on...very different than the other.

I can say without a doubt that I truly loved my first girlfriend. I still love her to this day. It doesn't interfere with other relationships; God has given me so much of His own love to share that it doesn't reduce the love I can give to anyone. At least I hope that any girl that comes into my life in the future feels that way.

In the end, time is the key. Feelings, infatuations, are fleeting. The only way I've seen to truly know if it is true love is by consulting God and giving it time. In watching a few of my friends repeatedly crash and burn in relationships, one thing common between most/all is how quickly they throw themself "all in". But that's a whole different topic.

Lightning, I agree with you. The people in my life that I have loved I love still. Like Stilly said…the fire has faded to more of a glow than a blaze at this point. Still makes my heart smile though. J
And you are right that it does not interfere with loving someone new. There is no limit as to how much we can love as far as I can see. J

Than Jesus is a sucker right? Because the Bible says "For God so loved the world" John 3:16, and then it says, "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first." John 15:18. Malachi 3:6 says, "I the Lord do not change." So Jesus loved the world. The world hated him. They treated him so crappy they put him on a cross even though he was innocent, and because he never changes but is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8), he still loves this world that did him so wrong even though it has been about 2,000 years since the crucifixion at Golgotha. No my friend, "love never fails" (1 Corinthians 13:8).
I'm not sending anyone that doesn't love me to hell, I'm just not talking to them anymore. You neglected to state what God does to people who don't love him in return in your effort to be correct. Actually I'm 100% correct. God does love people who love him. He doesn't fail people who love him..he just does what I did to a person who rebuked my love, he sends them on their way.

I once had interesting discussion about this:

In my language the verse "Love never fails" is translated "Love never disappears". Also It's said that "God is love" So, as God never fails and disappears so must be with true love also. And then we came to interesting part. It started from Jesus saying "I am the light of the world" which brought the idea that what if it's understood literally? Ligth is energy that also by laws of physics never disappears, just changing the form. And when we discussed further we indeed found much of similarities with these rules of energy and love. Like we don't "generate" love by ourselves but it comes to us from outside... from God for example, also It's said that love itself have 4 different forms where only one is romantic. And I have seen with my friends when romantic love turns into other type of love. The final interesting thing, actually fact, is that scientist have discovered a weak flow of energy from people but if those people are loving couple this flow is different and much stronger. (Not to mention the moments in my own family where My knew that my mom have gotten into car crash and starting to seach his phone to call is she ok same time as she called him shocked about what's happened.)

Now what I said above is mostly just presumtions, guessing and thinking but do you agree there may be something right with that?
