I would describe his speech as more calculated and controlled. This is not a man who often says what he is really thinking. He says what he thinks will be accepted under the circumstances.... what he feels you want to hear.
Military-supporting conservatives say this all the time, I don't understand what the problem is.

I think you mistake me.I have no issue with black people. I have wonderful black friends.But I do talk to them and try and show them that the Dems have taken advantage of them and their vote since Andrew Jackson. I live in the south and more than once I've corrected people on their racism and told them they were wrong. A friend of my mothers said races shouldn't mix,then tried to use the Bible to back her opinion. I told her straight out that she was wrong and that her opinion was racist. I thought she'd never speak to me again. So I will defend my black brothers and sisters when it is right to do so.But when it is wrong I will also say they are wrong.

How can you say I am against blacks when I told you I hired something like 35 useless excuses for construction workers. Every single one of them were black, and weren't really worth the paperwork to fire them. I tried hard to find good workers in our local Black neighborhood. They just didn't exist. Whereas I only had about one useless white guy in every ten. And with Mexicans, it was even better....... I hardly ever ran across one of them that was not a good worker.
Yes, I think black construction workers are probably harder to find than hen's teeth, but that does not mean I say that without first having given MANY of them a chance to show they were men worth hiring.
I think the reason is simple. In construction you really do have to work. You can't just show up and expect to be paid.

Worked at a job and when it came time to shovel snow, move product around outside, salt the lot, put the product back &c, certain would not help, would not come outside, literally refused to help.
And bragged about it.
This took place many times per year where we worked, not just once in a while. No one was allowed to say anything to them because of their skin pigmentation.
Of course, this makes me a racist.
