This is one of the very few long autobiographical posts I have slogged through. All I can say is that if you believe God is opening a door, go for it. I think that is the best mentality to have when a relationship worth having is riddled with questions such as this.

Not to sound narcissistic (even though I am about to), but not only can I relate to your situation, it also gives me some hope. A rare commodity in this area.

Keep posting. :)

It already exist. It is called the Law of Entropy and you can apply it to everything from relationships to the structural integrity of carbon fibers.

thanks for slogging :)

Its not the law of entropy. The law of entropy says something to the effect of.. things will remain in chaos until they reach an equilibrium, then once that equilibrium is reached, the chaos permanently ceases.
The unwritten law I was talking about is about there always being an insurmountable obstacle standing in the way of an otherwise perfect coming together of two people who would be great for each other.

Ok if the dude doesn't at least consider moving to USA for a few years if that is something that is a object in the way after whatever travel adventures you have for however long, he's crazy. hopefully your son goes to the side of USA that is closer to wherever u may be. If not, milk that sugar daddy he's got the money and get his butt to help pay for the time ur relationship is taking away from ur son. I'm sure they would want to meet too. When I say pay for time I mean help out with flight costs to see your son if u r overseas.

yep....it's kinda like that..... must stop :D

Men...they think us women think the same as them...

Jules, follow your heart! :D

SHORT VERSION OF THE REASONS FOR THE BREAKUP:
1. At the time I was a widow with a son who was still in high school and I couldn't even BEGIN to imagine myself traveling all over the planet leaving him here alone, especially after he'd already lost his dad. I also had concerns re: it being a rebound type of relationship since I was a new widow.
2. The guy I'm talking about had worked, studied and sacrificed for YEARS to get the position of his dreams. How do you ask someone to give that up? I couldn't.

So having thought about this some more.....

Not knowing details obviously disregard what's completely off-base.

I think this is going to depend completely on what he proposes, should it get to the point of a marriage proposal. From what you've said it seems you have both realised you still feel the same and want to be a part of each others life.

But you've also mentioned how his job takes him to international locations and how you wouldn't want to ask him to give that up for the good he can do and because of how hard he worked to get there.

However it shouldn't be a question of you having to ask, I kind of agree with AAAPlus, it's dumb of all of us to make a decision for someone else's 'own good', if you respect him you should also respect his decision to make a sacrifice and be content with his decision.

Could it be it scares you? that someone might give up for you all he has to give up? we all struggle with feeling unworthy of what we see as a remarkable person living a remarkable life.
Knowing some things about you I'd not be surprised if many men have felt this way about you, unworthy.

But my point is, be careful that you don't inadvertently settle by simply associating yourself into his life rather than making your life, as a couple.
Simply put, never forget what you are worth and what you deserve.

You may be the 'missing piece' in the heart of this man, but you have to be the biggest piece, at least that is my view, any marriage or realtionship put second to a career, no matter how 'important' is going to be massively unfair and more demanding on one over the other, and while you can easily justfiy entering such a marriage by makig a list of what will be in your life compared to what's there now, consider if the consequence of his job means will you ever actually have them, or will the marriage/relationship merely be a promise going unfulfilled.

To finally make my point, (yes I do have one)
If anything happens consider if you're giving more than he is, you're worth being someone's number one.......nothing less.
If he can't or won't offer that, then think extremely hard about the life you will be choosing, because that is settling.

Actually, after having talked to you a little more my advice is

CLOSE THIS THREAD, DONT READ ANYMORE, DONT THINK ANYMORE! You have done enough analyzing to get you to Christmas about this!
